Got a couple of questions about using MiBox in conjunction with other plugins.
Example use case is a guitar chain that uses Nembrini amp, MixBox and an IR Loader. I like Nembrini better than MixBox amp emulations, and in turn I prefer Ownhammer IRs to Nembrini’s stock IRs.
So a classical “chain” would be something like:
1) MixBox pre-amp fx and pedals. Distorsion, modulation, compressor, eq, tremolo.... pedals that you plug your guitar into before the amp.
2) Nembrini amp with cab bypassed.
3) Cab Impulse Response (Thafknar or Impulsation)
4) post amp MixBox - compression, eq, tape emulation, delay, reverb....
Is anyone doing this, does it make sense?. Obviously not only for guitar chains, the same would apply to a chain with Gauss or any looper, Saturn or any AUV3 you specifically want to use.
So that’s 2 instances of MixBox. My biggest worry is CPU load. Is it a lot more taxing on CPU to have 2 instances of MixBox?. I mean having 1 instance with 6 Fx vs splitting it into 2 instances with 3 Fx each...
I found Mixbox to be quite CPU-heavy in my first session last night, though I did have an instance of Zeeon and DrumComputer in the same AUM project....
I find the CPU hit scales quite alright. Of course some of the models require more than others, but this is the first toolset on iOS that I see as workable mixing solution - from cpu and workflow perspective
Hi there guys, just made a quick test with the vocal presets.
I have an Auto-Tune effect (which is soon coming out, before Christmas) on the vocal group and added MixBox to the group track.
Please don’t mind my singing and lyrics 🤣🤣🤣
In regards to the Auto-Tune, all I can say is GET Cubasis 3 ASAP 💪🏾💪🏾😜
How are you getting along with midi control of MixBox?. The assignments seem to me to be “the wrong way around”. I’d expect control numbering the usual from top-left to bottom-right. So control 1 would be the one on the upper left... that’d seem the logical way, but it’s the other way around. Which is sort of confusing... in the following screenshot you can see that the first control on the UI is
Number 5 while the last one is number 1.
EDIT:
Even more confusing.... seems to depend on the module. On the env filter parameter 1 is bottom right (last) while on FM Modulator is top left (first, way it should be).
Can’t get this to work... I can assign a midi cc or specific note, but I can’t see how to listen to keyboard notes...
So many questions popping up...
My walkthrough vid has its own thread but I'll post here for posterity too. Goes through a bunch of the presets, the only area not covered is vocals.
IK Multimedia MixBox CS Walkthrough Video (3 FREE Copies to Give Away!)
This IK Multimedia rack style processor for desktop/iPad includes no less than 70 separate effects. Here I will look at the iPad version but this is equally applicable to the desktop version. The most useful aspect of MixBox CS is the way you have around 700 FX chain presets - designed by experts - combining separate effects into racks with up to 8 modules per rack. That opens up a world of possibilities. You can of course, load modules individually and also save your own custom effects chains. MixBox may not replace all your various separate FX apps, but the ease of use is really something. This video runs through most of the rack presets on a wide range of different material - synths, piano, drums, bass, percussion etc (no time to focus in detail on individual modules when there are 70 of them lol). It also shows a few useful things like how to control a filter in MixBox CS using an external LFO, how to set up a send buss in AUM and how to set up sidechain! (See timestamps for details).
Timestamps:
00:00 intro, giveaway details, overview
04:30 jazz bass example, will Mixbox replace all your AUv3 fx apps??
08:00 drums presets
10:13 'spaces' presets
14:55 what are the 70 modules included?
16:45 synth presets and how to control with an Lfo the AU parameters in AUM
28:35 how to sidechain
31:18 percussion presets
32:17 guitar presets
34:27 delay presets, setting up a send bus in AUM

@tahiche
Regarding AM/FM midi input - it’s not working, because MixBox is audio only atm. IKM would have to release MFx AU so midi can be sent in. 🤞
Unfortunately I can’t see how automation could be more straightforward, given the dynamic nature of the plugin. It could be improved though, f.e with additional switchable overlay that would display the layout...
Does MixBox have in app midi learn? - or is it only through exposed parameters in the host? (mapping exposed parameters is really a pain)
@aleyas No midi learn and the parameters are exposed like below..... really need to tidy this up as someone explained its all over the place and not consistent.
No, it is really a tragically missed opportunity not to have lfo modules inside the app itself that can be loaded into the rack and then assigned to other modules with midi learn. I hope something like this could be added, would be killer.
I'm currently trying to resist buying this thing.
You can check if 'Lady Luck' is on your side by checking out @Gavinski 's video on YouTube
@ikmultimedia Can you please consider adding midi learn or a better way to assign midi controllers? Also I have went through each parameter and it does not look like the wet/dry mix for each channel is midi controllable? That is huge to have that at least for me....
Thanks for introducing a great app to iOS!!!!!
Also add a LFO internal as @Gavinski as pointed out. 😀

MIDI LEARN PLEASE
It's not a problem to map parameters on desktop, because most DAWs make it easy peasy. The only 2 multibus daws (hosts) on IOS, unfortunately DO NOT make it easy. Navigating a massive list (that grows as your project does) is a huge mental shift from music making when you're in the moment. There are 2 other modular apps that share dynamic interfaces with non-fixed architecture. They are miRack and Drambo. They have both implemented midi learn/map to excellent usability. It takes only a split second to map parameters in those apps. Mapping in Aum is more like 30 seconds to a minute.. if you don't accidentally hit the built in keyboard or tap elsewhere on the screen - then you need renavigate and start over.
One thing that is awesome: a fully automatable Wah-Wah pedal, you can control every nuance of the filtering, play it in time to the music, slowly release over sustained notes etc... It's tons of fun.
A quick test of what I mean, the "guitar" tone is fully created in MixBox, the signal chain is Compressor --> Overscream --> Marshall sim --> British EQ --> Tape Echo --> Multi Chorus --> Wah 47 --> Hall Reverb. The original performance was with Geoshred in Garageband, this version was recreated in Cubasis 3 with just the raw tone from Geoshred.

Agreed, AUM parameter mapping is a real pain
🙌🏼 🙌🏼 🙌🏼
You Sir are not helping as regards the baby getting new shoes any time soon etc.
So midi is only for standalone, I gather. That’s a shame, although it’s only really vital for am/fm modulators, I think.
Yeah, I don’t expect exact parameters, that’s a logical consequence of the flexible components. But It doesn’t make sense that there’s not a set “order” of parameters... don’t you think?. It makes it a lo5 harer to map.
Oh wow, the few I tested it seemed fairly logical, that's no good at all, it should be a consistent left to right, top to bottom order
Has anyone had any success installing the signature presets you get after registering MixBox?
These are the instructions,
1) Open Files App and go to Downloads Folder
2) Select the .zip file and tap on Open
3) In the upper right, tap Share and select "copy to MixBox CS"
Which I followed but I don’t get a “copy to MixBox” option nor do I see a folder for it anywhere in the Files App folders.
Maybe because I’m on OS 13.7?
I registered, opened the email link but can’t find the bonus presets once I’m on the IK site. Can anyone suggest where I should look?
Edit. Solved, thanks
@Strizbiz Don’t open the .zip file. Just select the zip and share it to MixBox.
@ikmultimedia
Make this thing universal so I can jump between AUM/Cubasis on the iPhone and iPad. I want it done before Apple close iTunes later this month 😂👊
I knew you guys would have this topic thoroughly covered. I swore off buying anything from this dev about a year ago but now cannot remember why. And of course, I didn't know they were going to release something like this when I made that pact! LOL.
Tempting, tempting, tempting.
Workin well in CB3 including recording automation. However if you made a rack and then quit and reopen you get an empty rack. Just save the rack before you quit and load it when you re-open and all is well.
in garageband 4 tracks with the pop vocal preset on the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018)
Liking this more and more, but yeah @ikmultimedia the MIDI CC needs to get sorted out. AUM just shows a list of 19 generic parameters which you have to go through and test to see what it controls if it controls anything.
Then yes, would be good to add dry/wet controls to the MIDI CC list, including an addition of an overall dry/wet control.
Do all that, and you got a quality app. As it sits now, sounds are good, implementation needs work.
Ouah!!! Modular wonder!
What a superbly designed fx suite!
In terms of sound, flexibility, ease of use, results, and GUI this is a pure gem. Apart from the classic fx , EQ and amps it has also unique FX. I find it to be light on CPU. As several of you guys mentioned, a few midi improvements would make it even more essential. Price is more than justified IMHO.
Ouah! IOS music is going mature lately!
