I doubt your assumption about the internal keyboard is correct. An internal signal is different from something coming from the outside. You assume that the internal keyboard generates midi, but it's more likely that internally the app doesn't use midi at all. Probably it just accepts outside midi for triggering its own internal processes and outputs midi for communication to the outside.
It would be interesting to test whether midi generated from an app not hosted in AEM can be passed through. For instance by using KB-1 standalone.
!!! I saw this thread pop up and I immediately checked the App Store for the Tempo Change update! I will be patient… 😌
Love this DAW.
I would ask @Michael to update the thread title or create a new thread. You’re on 4.0 now, not 3
How's that?
That’s easy enough 😁
I have implemented MIDI remote control and tempo/time signature change in the iOS version. A version with MIDI remote control has been uploaded and needs to be reviewed by Apple before we can release it to the testers. Shortly after that, I will upload a version with the tempo/time signature to test as well. If no problems are found, a v5 release with these features and a new chorus based on the Roland Dimension D will be released in a week.
Hurray! Tempo/time signature change is such a welcome feature -- and so seldom available on iOS. Thank you!
Wow! that's huge!
SUPER!
Thank you Mr Davy!!!!!!!
Any chance you can add using a bus or another track as the source for an audio track? It is one of the few features that distinguishes Auria from Cubasis and AEM and would be very useful.
Can you please elaborate on the use case for that? It would easily create infinite loops.
It is a frequent use-case…it is the reason many still use Auria since on iOS the other popular DAWs don’t have it. Re-sampling is a great way to save CPU and be able to print audio from your synths or audio tracks that have effects that you want to bake in (while retaining the originals for potential reprocessing).
Case #1:
Midi synth track . You might have synth tracks where you want to keep the midi around as a safety but would prefer to just record the output as audio and treat it as an audio track.
Case 2: save sub-group mix. You have several tracks (possibly drums where each part is in its own track of horn parts or layered guitar parts) and you have gotten to a point where you want to record that as a track.
Case 3: you have an audio or midi instrument track and you want to record a real-time audio performance of real-time manipulation through effects and what not (and not capture automation).
Preventing feedback loops is fairly straightforward.
Is there a way of NOT showing the internal keyboard? As in hiding it.
When I'm using some generators, or alternative keyboards like KB-1, having half my screen filled with a keyboard I'm not using, isn't helpful. I would like to hide it. Can't find it in any of the settings though.
Ah. Accidentally found it. Leaving it here if it is helpful to someone else.
Basically go in to the instrument or the AU (in my case KB-1) and then tap the button to the right of the two buttons up left, labelled "AU". When it is "lit up" it removes the built-in keyboard. Now I know.
Exploring it as I was reminded of that I have it installed, and the possible promise of multiple tempos/time-signatures in the same tune has made me want to explore it again.
Appreciate this, I’m new to the app so that was one thing bothering me too. Glad that’s how ya do it!

There’s the Convert to Audio function inside the Track Options window on your MIDI track.
That is different and doesn’t cover all of the use important use cases. Freezing tracks is different from capturing the audio in real-time. Sometimes you are trying to capture details like real-time manipulation of the synth and effects.
Also recording from buses isn’t just useful for the case of recording the audio output of a midi synth.
If AEM had this it would be one of the iOS DAWs that has what is a pretty standard desktop DAW feature.
I'll see what I can do in the next weeks. Lots of things coming up.
That would be awesome -- along with the tempo/time stuff coming, it would put AEM in the elite category.
Just to check if I've understood correctly: Will this DAW soon feature the ability to have multiple time-signatures (Any denomination) in a project?
Thanks
Happily testing away, though I have to read the manual now and then, as I have yet to get fluent in the workflow.
Just a checkpoint question: It doesn't have Ableton Link hidden somewhere? Am I just missing it?
That's the idea, yes.
No, that's still on the todo list.
That's excellent! Thanks!
I do have another question: Are the various mixer functions midi-learnable (Think CB3 has this). Would like to be able to learn faders (Volume and send), as well as mute and solo, so it can be used to record live passes of ambient and dub-mixes with an AKAI MIDIMIX, for example?
Many thanks!
Well, yes and no. Not directly from the Mixer screen, but in the upcoming MIDI remote setup dialog, you can select the Tracks category for example, tap on the Volume edit box and then move the fader on your MIDI device. Using MIDI learn it will then fill in the MIDI CC command. Since you really don't want to do this for every fader, there is quite an advanced system where you can set whether the next faders are controlled by increasing CC or increasing MIDI channel.
So if your MIDI controller has faders with CC 21, 22, 23, 24, etc. then you set up CC21 for volume and select 'Increasing CC' and a 'bank size'. Then the app will know that CC22 is for track 2 etc.
Perhaps I'll make a short (unprofessional) video so you can see.
@dwrae Great to see the amount of development work you are doing here… looking forward to seeing the new features.
Thanks!
That seem fine as it is, although I likely wouldn't be able to take advantage of the automatic sequential setup (CC's all over the place, on that controller).
I have been doing more research, watching videos etc. (Big win getting Tim to do the tutorials. He does them so well). I did see one video/stream, however, in which a commenter suggested that the MIDI lean would only be available for internal stuff and not AUV3 plugins. Is that correct?
Also curious about a few other things. Does AEM allow for audio-clip trim/normalise/reverse? Does it have crossfading between clips. Also, is there only provision for 2 sends?
Don't want to bother you with a ton more questions, so perhaps there is an up-to-date manual?
Thanks, again
Edited to add: Just read the SOS review (2017) and it mentions a limited, free-to-try option. Can't seem to find it on the app-store. Has that since been removed?
True, not even for Evolution One. As I wrote earlier in this thread, at this point I only want to have the functionality equal to the Android version as a first step. More functionality will come later.
Sure, all of them. Unlimited sends.
Absolutely, please see here:
