  • Just updated to version 5.0.1 and it is a fantastic update! The tempo change works great for midi instruments and time stretch for audio takes care of the rest. Adding Toneboosters enhancer was fantastic and free dimension D chorus is icing on the cake. Thank you so much!!!

  • A fantastic list of changes in this release, I will need to buy some more IAPs to say thanks.

To route audio you need to select the input port on the audio channel and then scroll all the way down past the app input ports where you will find other tracks as options for input.

Audio Evolution v5 for iOS released:

    • Tempo and time signature changes can now be added using the marker area: double tap and select 'Add tempo/time sig change'. A gradual tempo change can also be selected.
    • Added a 'MIDI remote setup' option to the More menu to remote control transport commands, mixer controls and ADSR controls of SoundFonts by MIDI CC messages.
    • Added a new (free) chorus effect: Dimension D.
    • Added the Toneboosters Enhancer V4 effect: season your tracks with Toneboosters' tasty enhancer!
    • Audio tracks now can record from the output of another track or bus for advanced applications.
    • When replacing a mono audio clip with a stereo clip and a ToneBoosters V3 effect was on the track, the app would crash at playback. Solved.
    • Improved MIDI CC editing accuracy on the piano roll.
    • Solved a rare crash that could occur when zooming during playback.
    • The piano roll editor and virtual keyboard now display note number 60 as C3 instead of C5.
    • Piano roll events were not displayed when a MIDI clip was selected. Solved.

If you find any issues, please let me know. Next release is expected by the end of the week, although the added functionality in that release is more important for Android.

If anyone knows some websites that would be interested in this news, please let me know.

  • Looks great! Thank you @dwrae!

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • @dwrae : these are great additions!

  • Nice! A couple of very useful enhancements here.

Does this now have parity with the Android release?

Not completely, but for the most important things, yes. The only thing I can think of is creating soundfonts from a (single) audio file, but I'm pretty sure some AUv3 plugin would cover that.

I can think of at least two... :) Glad to hear it, and congratulations on the release.

Oh my God! It’s amazing! Thank you so much!
Full MIDI CC editing with tempo and time signature change - this combination is extremely rare (or maybe even unique) in iOS world!
Congratulations with such a significant release!

    bug report Version 5 iOS
    -Cannot rename markers

    Thanks! Solved.

  • I installed AEM today on the M1 Macbook and was disappointed because the screen is in 4:3 format. Would it be possible to fix this? I find it interesting to open AEM on Macbook for some need.

I checked it out, but there is no easy fix unfortunately.

  • Audio Evolution Mobile Studio v5.0.6 released:

    • Added the Toneboosters Flowtones virtual analog synthesizer: Flowtones is a modern, unique-sounding virtual analog synthesizer with two parts featuring two analog-modelled voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) each. Each oscillator has an extensive feature set including pulse width and ring modulation, subharmonic synthesis, noise and unison synthesis and a wide range of modulation options. Over 30 analog-modelled VCF filter types, pro-grade effects including a best-in-class formant filter, low-frequency oscillators and envelope generators provide a colourful palette to create a wide range of sounds. Use the intelligent randomizer to create new and unique sounds instantly in addition to the hundreds of categorized presets provided.

    • Added a ping pong delay effect.

    • Automation can now be edited during playback.

    • The piano roll editor can now be opened while playing back.

    • Instrument tracks can now be armed and unarmed while playing back/recording.

    • Solved possible crash when pressing Undo in the piano roll editor when adding the MIDI clip was the last event.

    • Rename markers didn't work. Solved.

    • Solved a bug with the wrong tempo being used in AU and IAA effects and instruments, introduced in 5.0.1.

    • Rotation method setting did not work. Solved.

    • Solved an issue with creating an overlapping MIDI clip.

    Indeed!

  • Flowtones in-house is a fantastic upgrade! Thanks!!!!

  • @dwrae any plans for video support? it would be a great environment for filmscoring, since there's a great flexibility in regards tempo/signature changes and markers.

  • @dwrae
Very cool, adding Flowtones to the roster

Question: is it possible when tapping in a new midi clip (tap empty track, midi clip pops) to have the midi clip appear in a way that places the first notes in view actually at zero on the timeline? As it is, when the clip is added, the visible notes are somewhere to the right of the actual zero point, and it’s necessary to slide the clip over with the tool at the bottom of the screen. Sorry if this is convoluted

    No plans for that.

I'm a software developer and I admire your patience when people who haven't even tried your app are making requests. :)

Try, being the operative word. With no demo version, it's not possible to try. But that is what it is, and not worth harping on about.

But I'm not sure i understand why those who don't own the app shouldn't make requests or suggestions. Sure, I guess it comes own to how it is asked. But I'm curious why a developer wouldn't be interested to know the various "If only it could..." suggestions about missing features that some might consider 'show-stoppers' which are keeping them from buying and using. The developer always has the right to decline, but maybe certain requests are for features that hadn't previously been considered (Or perhaps other ideas for doing already-established thing) that resonate with the developer, and which in some cases might be very easy to incorporate. From what I can see, dwrae is quite quick to nip-in-the-bud ideas that just ain't ever gonna happen, and clear about considering the possibility at some point in future updates.

Seems a simple enough exchange. And as someone who has had a couple of suggestions that were given a lukewarm reception, I felt nothing negative about it. On the contrary, it felt good to be heard and encouraging to see someone so 'on it' in terms of communication with anyone interested enough to post.

From a distance, this DAW looks pretty powerful and flexible. With out having used it, but having watched many videos, I get the impression that it's compartmentalised as it is to provide the best experience with mobile phones. Makes sense that certain features would be tabbed, to take advantage of the full, smaller screen-estate for certain of those functions. Ultimately, I think the extra button pressing is something I could learn to live with, given the functionality on-offer.

But there is one seeming show-stopper, for me (or at least I can't find any evidence of it being possible) and that is that it seems impossible to have the on-screen keyboard active while tweaking effects. Am I correct? If so, is that something that might possibly be implemented? (Tweaking effects is part of my sound-design process, but I don't use the iPad with a keyboard connected.

Also, regarding the onscreen keyboard: is there velocity-sensitivity and a way to make key-width wider or narrower (To squeeze more playable octaves in)?

    Thanks :)

I am always interested in hearing any feedback. Apple made it impossible to release trial apps, on Android there is a trial and full/paid version.

Anyway, no, you cannot have the keyboard and effects on at the same time. This is because windows (not Windows) on mobile was considered bad practice, at least at the time that the app was designed. So this is not a simple thing to just change/add.

Vertical velocity sensitivity can be turned on and off in the app's settings and the keys can be resized by a two-finger gesture over the keyboard overview.

Thumbs-up for the interest in feedback. And I didn't expand on the demo aspect, as we've had that discussion already.
I have an old Android phone. Do you know if AEM compatible with a 2016 Samsung J (Budget line) phone? Of course, I don't get to check how ell it functions with external Auv3's, MIDI plugins etc. which was the area in which Cubasis ended up failing for me :(

I guess it's another of those things that for non-tech-savvy folk like me think would be the simplest of things to achieve :)
It's also another one of those areas where I seem to fall between the cracks. I guess either everyone is using external MIDI 'boars, or...? It's frustrating, as there is clearly never going to be the impetus to add such a big change for one person, but it is really fundamental to my specific use-case. One workaround would be to record a MIDI loop of the sound I'm working on, and have it playing while adjusting effects. But I can see that getting 'tired' pretty easily.

I guess if the demo convinces me that everything is just so good, that it could be overlooked then great!

    That's good to know. Thanks!

What about an MIDI plugin such as Kai Aras' KB-1? Does that play well in AEM?

    Thanks, again

Well, don't expect miracles from a 6 year old device, especially from the cheap J series. It will 'work' though.

I'm afraid you won't get used to this if you have been using the keyboard like you describe with other apps. I'm just being honest here while being terrible at marketing! :)

On iOS? It should, but since I'm not going to buy every plug-in out there, I hope someone else with experience with the KB-1 can comment.

  • @dwrae : re demo versions. I suggest checking out what Michael Tyson has done with Loopy Pro. The download is free. There is a free IAP that provides one week of full operability and a paid IAP to unlock all the features. There is an additional thing that he has added which allows for a new IAP after a year to access new features but bug fixes are for lifetime.

Out of curiosity, what makes it impossible? Did Apple make a change that precludes other apps doing that, or is it incompatible with AEM’s code base?

No, the app is paid and I'm not going to make it free again.
