Updated. Thank you Sir.
Works!! Thank you!!!!!
Side question: I notice the (newer) menus now support trackpad scrolling, any chance to get that available for the clip arrangement area as well? Thanks!
@dwrae It’s working however does seem to be a little hit and miss not sure it laying down midi in real time there seems to be a bit of lag. Is there anyway you can show track view and timeline with a AU midi instrument gui up at the same time like you can in Cubasis 3 ? That way your be able to see your midi inputs being laid down on the track.
Thanks, It works and I’m waiting for the multiple au midi in the future, maybe a good solution will be to adding a long press on the record to enable/disable record of midi au for all au plugins on the same track?
What do you think?
Not any time soon, sorry.
Well, first of all I would need to get multiple AU MIDI fx working, but I'm bumping into a technical problem where an AU MIDI does not produce events the second time it is being called for the same time 'offset'. I need this because input, output and recorded events must be processed differently, so I need to solve that first.
@dwrae Ok that’s a shame be good if we could visually see the timeline at the same time. I also noticed midi data doesn’t appear until record is stopped and not in real-time like Cubasis 3 so with that aswell it doesn’t really make a difference.
Also the built in virtual keyboard although in view when the split screen au midi window is selected doesn’t not work.

@dwrae Thanks for giving us this Midi AU option there not many iOS DAWs with it without midi routing to separate track’s involved so hats off for that. Looking fwd to seeing future additions.
Ok, can you give me a sequence of steps for that? That's basically how I test.
What I do:
@dwrae.
Open AEM select a MIDI instrument track. Go to AU midi select a midi input AU try Xequence Keys AU for example. The built in virtual keyboard is showing but stops working. I tried Tonality aswell same issue.
Ah, that way, thanks. I'll have a look.

Just making sure u see this 👆 @dwrae
Ah, forgot. Well, I just changed the menus to use JUCE instead of native iOS code. If that allows trackpad scrolling, then great, but I didn't write any specific code for that. I think trackpad scrolling would only work if the arrangement area would get 'focus' somehow. May I ask which kind of trackpad device you use? Is it part of a regular keyboard?
Yes! I’ve got access to: Magic keyboard case, Logitech combo touch case, and Apple Magic Trackpad.
Thanks! I really appreciate that! I'll check why the first notes are not recorded.
This made me buy AEM.
I tried drag and drop audio files from sample crate and it didn't work.
Also pasting copied audio (from ableton note) didn't work either
Is there a way to save projects to iCloud and work from them?
Are the project files self contained or they link to the audio files?
where are the audio recording saved? if I delete them from the timelime do they get deleted from my ipad too?
Thanks!
Thanks for your purchase! You cannot drag&drop from other apps. You can use 'Open in'/'Open with', AudioShare or use the Files app to copy files into the AudioEvolution/Projects//Samples folder.
The app requires real-time access to audio, so iCloud is not an option. Also, since iCloud does not work as a regular file system other than any other sane cloud service, it is not supported for cloud synchronisation. Instead, Google Drive and Dropbox can be used to upload/download/sync projects. But you can never directly work from a project stored on a cloud.
The project files (.prj) are XML files referencing audio files. The MIDI is contained however in the XML file.
Since it's a typical DAW with non-linear non-destructive behavior, removing or editing a clip on the timeline will never delete or modify the original.
I couldn't reproduce the latency issue. If I play along the metronome, notes seem to be in time.
@dwrae Ok that’s for letting us know. Had a further play and it’s seems pretty solid now cheers.
It would be really nice to consider drag and drop + copy to clipboard or paste from clipboard as there are AUV’s and daws that that allow it and have special features that aren’t available in AEM, warping of audio in neon is a good example of one feature that might be worth it, other things that it might do is enable receiving stems from clients and automatically import multiple audio files to their corresponding tracks in AEM at once as when working with a bug number of tracks, it’s going to take a while to import everything
I’m sure it’s not a simple thing to implement so I just added my 2 cents for you to consider it.
Thank you so much for your kind answer,
iOS filesystem is so complicated that I prefer to have everything self contained and let that confusion to the app I'm using.
how does the AUv3 state saving work? for example if I record audio to koala sampler, where does that audio get stored?
I'm guessing that should be saved in .prj file?
Cheers!
Also drag and drop and copy paste should work just as how right now audio recording is working.
Where do audio recording get stored?
In the AudioEvolution/Projects/your project name/Samples folder.
Where AUv3's store any of their internal files like sampled audio is unknown to the app. Not in the prj file. Only the AUv3's state information (read: parameter settings) are stored in the project file.
Fwiw, it’ my understanding that some AU’s include actual sample data as part of their state.
Koala is one of them
Hmm. that would be abuse. Apps get refused for less by Apple!
I don’t think it’s abuse, it’s actually better for collaborating as the samples are saved with the project file so no way for missing samples error to occur
But I’m not apple and I don’t call the rules, I hope they won’t remove it if it goes against their rules
