I don’t think it’s abuse, it’s actually better for collaborating as the samples are saved with the project file so no way for missing samples error to occur
But I’m not apple and I don’t call the rules, I hope they won’t remove it if it goes against their rules

Well, if people start to add hundreds of megabytes of samples in the plug-in state, then the project files would become unmanageable.

Also drag and drop and copy paste should work just as how right now audio recording is working.

Where do audio recording get stored?

In the AudioEvolution/Projects/your project name/Samples folder.

Thanks for your quick responses! Is there a way to "tidy" unused samples on a project...

how does the AUv3 state saving work? for example if I record audio to koala sampler, where does that audio get stored?

I'm guessing that should be saved in .prj file?

Where AUv3's store any of their internal files like sampled audio is unknown to the app. Not in the prj file. Only the AUv3's state information (read: parameter settings) are stored in the project file.

And yeah, I understand koala audio data is stored in the state, therefore in the .prj files

    This made me buy AEM.

I tried drag and drop audio files from sample crate and it didn't work.

Also pasting copied audio (from ableton note) didn't work either :(

Is there a way to save projects to iCloud and work from them?

Are the project files self contained or they link to the audio files?

where are the audio recording saved? if I delete them from the timelime do they get deleted from my ipad too?

    Thanks!

Thanks for your purchase! You cannot drag&drop from other apps. You can use 'Open in'/'Open with', AudioShare or use the Files app to copy files into the AudioEvolution/Projects//Samples folder.

The app requires real-time access to audio, so iCloud is not an option. Also, since iCloud does not work as a regular file system other than any other sane cloud service, it is not supported for cloud synchronisation. Instead, Google Drive and Dropbox can be used to upload/download/sync projects. But you can never directly work from a project stored on a cloud.

The project files (.prj) are XML files referencing audio files. The MIDI is contained however in the XML file.

Since it's a typical DAW with non-linear non-destructive behavior, removing or editing a clip on the timeline will never delete or modify the original.

    Fwiw:

I can open Projects from iCloud in Drambo (even if it hasn’t been downloaded to the local device).

I can also drag and drop audio samples from File browser directly into Drambo…so i wonder why you can’t do the same in AEM? Is it the nature of the Package Contents of your file system which prevents this?

    Maybe you said this.

But i just wanted to clarify that iCloud support of files and projects is definitely achievable on iOS platform 😉 it just needs to be accounted for in the design of the app.

Same here, that's one of the greatest 'features' of Koala as far as I'm concerned - being able to neatly store all used samples within the project file itself. File sizes can get particularly large, but at least you know everything is 'backed up' in 1 self-contained file.

Sure, but saving a project and things like auto-save would take increasingly more time, ruining the DAW's experience.

fair enough, having all in one folder is good enough for safekeeping of the samples.

Is it posible to implement audio copy and paste or drag and drop and that the files get stored in the AudioEvolution/Projects/your project name/Samples folder?

also: Thanks for your quick responses! Is there a way to "tidy" unused samples on a project?

I guess it is. I have to look what kind of technology that uses.

Practically, no. 'Clean up project' can help, but you would have to do that within the 'current session', meaning that if you would record, then remove the clip and use 'Clean up project', it would offer to delete it. But not if you have for example saved and loaded that project. Why? Because a project folder can have multiple project files (.prj's) with multiple project files referring to the same audio file. If the audio file is not used in one project file, clean up project would then delete it, but your other project file would then be unable to load it since it got removed. So one day, I will have to make something that parses all project files in the folder and see if an audio file is really used or not.

  • Doesn't an app need to support split view for that?

The other app can be in slide over view. So I guess no, but I'm not sure.

I think I'm able to drag and drop to BeatMaker 3 and BM3 does not support split view.

I agree. There are a few others…and it makes using them so much easier than it would be if they didn’t keep their samples with them.

I don't think so. I drag and drop audio files into BM3 as mentioned above. What I thought was cool in the video is that I was able to do it on the iPhone as well, via Press+Hold to grab the audio file, and then swipe up to Drambo via Multi-Tasking to drop the file onto a Flexisampler instrument rack. So cool.

  • @dwrae said:

Absolutely not. MultiTrackStudio MTS iPad doesn’t support split view and has midi and audio drag & drop. As well as copy/paste from the general pasteboard

Ok, I tried to drag but there is no target app coming at all. You could also long-tap the file and select 'Open in'.

Are you referencing bringing a file into MTS or AEM?

Into AEM. I'm sorry, it seems they renamed it to 'Share' in the menu. So, long-tap, Share, Audio Evolution.

it just needs to support slide over. Here it is in Auria. It is nice because you can drag directly onto a track and place the audio where you want it.

It needs to be implemented, it doesnt just work

Well, I have just done it here, so the Share method definitely works. The others indeep have to be implemented separately, I'm just giving you an alternative.

  • When I select "share" after exporting from ableton notes it doesn't list AEM as an option

  • However sharing to from the already exported file from sample crate works

  • @cokomairena said:

What if you look at more options? If there are a lot of apps on a device, some only show up as targets there.

I get brave, discord, notes, reminders and google keep...

    maybe it's notes fault?

Well, I cannot get it to work. In the Files app, when you start dragging an audio file, every edge will trigger starting the app that the file resides in. So if you go to AudioEvolution and drag a file, it will start AudioEvolution. If you go into MultiTrack DAW, it will fire up MultiTrack DAW. I have Auria PRO, but when I start dragging a file from the AudioEvolution folder, I cannot find Auria PRO anywhere as a drop target.

Make sure that you long-tap drag rather than tap drag.

    To drag into Auria pro from files;

    • launch Auria pro
    • Put it in track view
    • Launch files app in slide over mode (the mode shown in my screenshot
    • Long-tap and drag from files onto a track

If you ever get round to adding the more sophisticated parsing I'll make use of it.

As it stands I put by a few hours once or twice a year tidying all my projects in one go. It is easy to do, so I don't need the functionality at all. Would just make good use of it if it was there.

As always thanks for the app. I use it for mastering my songs.

This is much appreciated, thanks for listening and implementing it so fast, i don't think theres anyone else on ios as quick and as approachable as you.

I can't believe how fast you are taking note, this might well get to be THE iOS daw!!!

My suggestion: having the top of the timeline always available like in garage band, it doesnt matter where you are you can always jump around to a specific part to modify parameters.

Also I would like a quickest way to access the AUv3 isntruments, right now it feels that every page has it's specific use, that is good, but there are funcions that you want to have always at hand, like opening the instrument to make a change.

    Great work!
