The iPad has a much better display -- like about (US$)3000 dollars better in Apple money.
Edit: This made me wonder if they might bring the XDR display to the 16" MBP and then I realized that they probably can't because the lid is too thin. This could be a feature where the form factor of the iPad Pro has an advantage over the laptops.
Yes. Same with the camera. Laptops are too thin to house a better camera.
But, the MBP isn’t touchbased, twice the size when in use (not fold), and, not that practical in bed, especially laying on the back...
And, when fell asleep, I rather want an iPad in the face then a sharpedged MBP!
I have done this many times, probably a couple thousand times by now.
+1 - ha!
I am pretty sure that apple hasn’t revealed all and this June could be the return of the Alchemy, right?
That's just speculation, 3 minutes of my life I won't get back.
We're gonna see LOT of these Pro App 'click bait' and 'speculation videos' for the coming months without any solid proof about them appearing.
The current M1 MacBook Pro's offer way more bang for the buck if 'Pro' apps are needed.
The 3.5mm jack has to make a comeback if Logic for iPads is going to make any kind of sense.
iPad Pro's may have 'studio grade' microphones built-in but no way to use 'pro' head-phones without dongle-hell to listen to what you record...
Highly unlikely. I still don't see any way for them to scale the UI to an iPad. At most it would be a Logic Lite and they already do that with GB.
I'd still like to see MainStage on the iPad though.
Maybe not a big sign but at least another confirmation by Jon Prosser.
I’m still hopeful.
Logic was supposed to drop for iPad's over 2 years ago so take everything with a grain of salt before we actually see something
Yes it takes a lot of reimagining and reformatting of the interface. But if Apple wants to see the iPad becoming a true pro device not only by hardware standards they will have to take that extra mile and get it done.
I’m sure we will see a very basic first version and get more and more features brought over over time. I expect similar vibes like the first introduction of Final Cut X.
There’s certainly room for GarageBand to grow and gain more Logic Pro-inspired features.
Everything is speculation until it isn’t.
Everyone seems to overlook what I believe is obvious: If they ever do release Logic for iOS, it will never be at WWDC.
WWDC is about enticing and encouraging developers - Apple's vast hardware selling and App Store commission engine. It's about getting them to salivate over the new developer tools and over the hardware they can develop for so that they'll work their asses off to bring in profits for Apple. They're not going to parade an app that does nothing for developers except show them up, and in some cases eclipse their product entirely.
I used Logic Pro for years and got pretty attached to some of its features, but honestly, once Loopy Pro gets linear audio tracks, Logic for iPad will be much less enticing for me. Getting away from the piano roll has been lovely and, aside from Flex Pitch and Drumkit Designer, I have comparable or better instruments/effects in my iPadOS collection.
Regarding my expectations for a port: LPX is built on decades of legacy bloat and conflicting workflows right now, and they can’t get rid of it because their actually-professional users need it to work the old way. So even though I’m convinced Apple could make many of the modern features work perfectly fine for touchscreens, it would be difficult and inefficient to bring over a huge percentage of Logic’s core functionality. As @NeonSilicon noted above, at that point it becomes Logic Lite and they could achieve the same thing by giving GarageBand audio/MIDI routing and opening up access to the instrument engines.
If they leave out the legacy workflows then it waters down bidirectional capabilities and makes it less appealing to desktop-first users. If they manage to bring LPX over as-is, mobile-first users would find it cumbersome and unpleasant. It’s a tricky needle to thread.
If they finally do bring it over I know I would wind up using it, but this speculation cycle pops up every six months or so and I think we need to keep our expectations in check.
I heard they’re working on a LPX smiley pack (inc. ultra realistic 3.5mm jack).
Exciting times!
I also don’t think Logic will come at WWDC. But I still can’t shake off the feeling that it will come. Here’s to another two years of waiting 😬
Has Logic Pro beat Drambo and Loopy Pro for app blue balls?
This dongle hell ain't so bad
To charge the pad at the same time though, now that is hell...
The magic kewyvoard if you are into investing yet more lets you charge while using the one usb-c for headphones, etc.
Could you listen with "pro" (i.e. high-impedance) headphones on previous iPads? MacBook Pros only last year gained the ability to drive headphones like that with the built-in jack. For Logic, you want a DAC, either a fully-fledged audio interface or at least a higher-end headphone DAC than what you'll get from a built-in jack. I don't think most Logic users would settle for the built-in microphones either.
That said, yes, this video is just wishful speculation. I think the "star of the show" will be an M2 processor and supporting libraries. Maybe an announced EOL for new Intel Macs.
@jrjulius : Will Loopy Pro in fact be getting Linear A d audio tracks? I agree that a “Garage Band Pro” type app (midi routing etc) makes more sense .
Can’t make promises on Michael’s behalf, but automation tracks and linear audio tracks are on the “Future” roadmap with well over 100 votes each. Fingers crossed they’ll come through soon!
Sounds like a plan to me !!
It does seem like the iPad presents an opportunity to move beyond desktop DAWs, and Loopy Pro is a great example of that. But I think there are also a lot of folks who want a seamless iPad to desktop workflow, and Logic on iPad could really deliver on that promise.
Feels like it would be good for Apple. I imagine some desktop Logic users would be tempted to spring for an iPad Pro if they could get Logic on it. And some who started on iPad might add a Mac to the mix.
I hope they do it. A real, well known, pro-level DAW on iOS would do a lot to stimulate the market and would probably be good for a lot of AUv3 developers, and might motivate more to make sure their apps run on macOS. Not really holding my breath though.
+1
I imagine it being a s**tload of work to make a good enough Logic version for iPad so I’m not surprised it takes so long.
Gotta live with them blue balls 😅 @McD
Every time I see this guy I asked myself is that a iPad ! Then I see Ableton Live🤐
Erm...YUP!
Felt so stupid when it happened for the first time. Not as dumb as I felt after the 4th, 5th...13th time, though
