Lol they said desktop class apps. But didn’t announce any desktop class apps. WTF.

They'll likely do that when it's finally released later this fall...
Guess M1 will be required for some of the iPadOS16 features.

I really thought it was coming when mentioning stuff like "colour-grading". They came so close. Well done apple, you have a desktop experience without the software :D

Welp....i'll give it to the end of WWDC to be official, but it look like none of you are getting rich off the 10000:1 odds I gave you that you'd get logic. I, on the other hand, might be able to buy a bottle of tequila with my winnings.

Stage manager and better external display support though 🤤 quite a big step forward IMO

S**t only for M1 iPads as it seems 🤦‍♂️

  • edited June 2022

At least file management may be better. But to advertise desktop on iPad OS and then not bring out any desktop software apps to boot is another own goal. Tempted by the new Air though.

Desktop class apps for developers to create. That's what they were talking about.

This is awesome! At this rate we may almost catch up to Windows 95 file manager in a year or two.
What a time to be alive. B)

Keep in mind, this update won't come out until the Fall. That gives them time to work on their own apps for iOS also. We don't know what they have planned and they (almost) never pre-announce their plans.

If I heard correctly stage manager will only available on m1 iPads. I recall Microsoft achieving overlapping windows with Windows 2.0 back in the late 80s. iOS is a blessing and a curse!

Windows is its own type of curse. I'll stick with Apple.

  • „Desktop Class Apps“

I was all like…. Oh my gosh… is it happening :-)

I think it won't be much longer before some iteration of Final Cut and Logic is available on iOS. Maybe we'll see them before we see the new Apple Glasses and Apple Car.

  • Nothing interesting really, even Stage manager isn't available on 12.9 2nd gen pro. But that's not worth upgrading for. Files app folder sizes.....yay.

Never thought a power adapter was gonna make my keynote.....

  • I think we'll see the next batch of iPad Pro's in 2023...
The new MacBook Air does look pretty neat and it got the and improved head-phone jack too :sunglasses:

I'll be watching the 'State of The Union' keynote later this evening (starts 11pm local time here) or tomorrow morning for more in-depth info and also check which sessions are worth digging into...

    Cheers!

  • I’m a little annoyed. Got a second hand iPad Air 4 recently and thought it would be fine for a while. Now it has to be M1 to get the newest features. Thanks Tim Apple :/

  • Tomorrow there will be one interesting session...

Discover how you can easily connect Thunderbolt and USB accessories to iPad with DriverKit. We'll show you how to convert your existing Mac drivers without any code changes, learn how to add real-time audio support with AudioDriverKit, and provide best practices and tips for developing drivers...

  • The key moment for the iPad and its "Pro" "Multitasking" and why it requires the M1 is at about 1:44:00 in the YT version of the presentation. M1 enables "Virtual memory swap." This is what will allow for applications to remain processing in the foreground with large amounts of memory allocated.

  • MacBook Air Midnight M2 and Prophet in the gallery on Apple Store RIP Dave Smith.

  • Would be nice to be able to search the Files app within a folder and subfolders then select, copy/move what you've searched for. That'd be real pro.

  • There are some good news:

    • With Virtual Memory Swap, iPad storage can be used to expand the available memory for all apps, and delivers up to 16 gigabytes of memory for the most demanding apps, helping to make multitasking absolutely seamless.

    • as Samu mentioned: Easily connect Thunderbolt and USB accessories to iPad with DriverKit. Real-time audio support with AudioDriverKit

    • Reference Mode enables the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display to match the color requirements in workflows like review and approve, color grading, and compositing, where accurate colors and consistent image quality are critical (essential for professional photographers).

I didn't catch the DriverKit bit. That's huge. Do you know where they mentioned it in the keynote?

Edit: So, it's a session? Definitely need to watch this.

  • Continuity for iDevice Cameras will be nice for using the iPhone or iPad as a webcam without installing any 3rd party crap.

Maybe we'll finally be able to record the iPad screen via cable connection and do a PiP from the iPhone camera at the same time without too much hassle?! (I'm still bummed that the iPad can't natively record the front-camera and do screen-recording at the same time without using additional apps or other work-arounds).

Thankfully my Intel Mini is almost fully supported by macOS Ventura and my iPhone 8 survived another year...
...my iPad Air 2 will likely be replaced before the end of the year as it's battery is NOT in good condition.

Also it will be interesting to see how managing windows on an externally connected display without a mouse & keyboard will work :sunglasses:

Without further detail, this most likely will only apply to your audio host unless they are also making changes to the AUv3 limits.
