I also used MainStage on Mac but switched over to AUM on iPad and don't miss MainStage. Of course it's a different workflow but I can achieve everything that I could achieve with MS. I even prefer AUM now
The annual or well biannual hoping for Logic thread HLT. Time just flies
I don't need Logic. I'd shit bricks if they made Drummer AUv3 lol
GarageBand is Logic lite.
I settled with Pure Synth Platinum, Synthmaster One, and Korg Module. Knowing Apple, they’d never make Mainstage AUv3 but I’m hoping they do.
Intelligent key splits?
I don’t need that as I’m a guitarist but it looks like Doug got you covered in his video
Edit: Not sure about the intelligent though
Personally, I'd be way WAY more interested in Mainstage being ported to iOS!> @AlmostAnonymous said:
Yep, bought it tried it, way too arcane!
read above
Yep got Camelot too
They have to have at least one software surprise this year, right? Some kind if pro software for their amazingly overpowered ipad pro which is about to get even more powerful?
iPad revenue is Apples smallest segment…> @cvwonder said:
probably some derivative of xcode / playgrounds
I'd more expect an Xcode / Playgrounds announcement at WWDC than at an iPad event. On the other hand, if Logic is ever announced (and I'm not one especially thinks that'll happen), I doubt that will ever be at WWDC. Much more likely at something like this event.
we are still eager to know why iPads need 8GB or even topping 16GB of RAM :P
One reason would be the new “Stage Manager” feature (which is proving to be quite a problem for Apple to integrate on iPadOS 16), which allows desktop-like separate app windows and multiple open and running applications.
Playgrounds doesn’t > @wim said:
Playgrounds iPad has yet to be updated for the newest swift, and doesn’t support the new Swift Charts. Highly likely they will have new Playgrounds release to go along with iPadOS 16.1 on the new hardware.
I’d be happy with GB if they added a mixer and automation.
GarageBand already has a limited form of automation. Volume only. I suppose they could afford to offer a more robust form of automation, but this has not been a priority of theirs to date.
Yeah, but that’s really minimal. A real mixer and animation comparable to other DAWs would make a world of difference to it.
Believe me, I'd love nothing more than a real mixing board style UI complete with flying faders, but I can also understand why they don't offer these things on iPad. GarageBand is meant to be accessible to beginners, as well as the more advanced user who just needs a fast and easy way to record. It does this. Should there be a "Pro" version of GarageBand... or a simplified version of Logic? I mean, I'm just glad they've never decided to abandon GB at this point since that has been the fate of so much of their other niche software products. Anyone remember "Soundtrack" (on desktop) or "Music Memos" (on iOS)? I loved and used both of those, but as soon as they release anything that is TOO niche, they determine it's not worth the effort to continue to support them.
I think Logic for iPad is unlikely to ever happen, but if there was a paid version of something more advanced than GB I’d be happy to invest.
They haven’t touched the core of GB in years - just adding content packs…very few sw engineers I can think of would stay inspired while not releasing jack s** for 4 years. They’re probably all on the AR team
Just a couple miner updates would do wonders for gb. proper stem export for me and a proper mixer for the drummer along making it midi over audio so edits can be made. Something so simple as making your own drum kits would be nice.
You do have a pretty power gb on Mac with logic on the same platform. So take a couple of those gb aspects and put them on the iPad to compete. Even being able to move projects back and forth from Mac to iPad that includes your midi would a step in the right direction.
I mean the whole goal is guess is to dabble on the iPad then move it to logic.
I think the lack of a mixer comes up quite often. That seems like one of the biggest wins for users if it was added.
I better wait for Ableton Live for iPad. I’m sure it will be.

I don't understand Apple's approach to GB. We've all seen the wonders that one person dev teams can manage. Why not add stem export, MIDI export, add a normalise toggle, automate pan, etc...
All these things can be worked around and they have sort of implemented a limited master track (FX), but really it would take just one dev six months or so to deliver the goods.
My guess is they would like anyone interested in more functions to take the leap and move up to Logic Pro. Personally, Logic Pro doesn’t interest me, except for a few features I might occasionally want to use but I can usually find alternatives.
