  • Thanks @dwarman. I havent had much luck finding anything so far, so I'd appreciate it if you could get manf./model.

  • I decided to cut out the middle man and left myself a note in the woods that said "Nice mic. Thanx!"...

  • Your loss- now you'll never hear Bigfoot singing under his waterfall shower.

  • We have foxes around our backyard, but it's really the unicorn sounds that I'm after.

  • Let me know if you capture the sound of a tree falling.

You'll be waiting long- I'd thought the fact that they are mute was common knowledge, but I guess not...

    If only that were true.

  • Tone deaf then...

    Nobody ever will;

  • Well, they're called "Trail Camera" or "Game Camera", and not so cheap, and not very good for capturing woodland sounds.

Alternatively you could put out a Zoom H1 ($99) in a bottle with 24 hrs per 16 GB microSD 16/44.1 WAV format. The H1 is just handy to have with you all the time anyway for found stuff, is also better than the audio your regular camera captures with its HD feature.

Or the equivalent Tascam, a bit bulkier:

  • Whoah. Spook stuff almost. Reminds me of one of my first recording heroes...

  • Foxes definitely aren't mute. I heard one fighting a cat in my back yard, and it was the most riotous sound I've ever heard! Yes, the cat was a big contributor, but the fox was unmistakeable....even though I couldn't reproduce it.

  • Around 1:05 is a good idea of what I heard.

  • Foxes are VERY loud when distressed or pissed. Unicorns on the other hand, can't get them to say a peep.

  • You'd think they'd be quite loud when using their horn...

  • New thread title proposed:

"Recording bears, trees and unicorns. Occasional MitoSynth references."

I was referring to the unicorns....

  • Doh! I think you're right @Zymos....I'm coming up empty finding any good unicorn sounds online.

  • I stand corrected....I forgot that my son's used to love this one...

I read your comment as an admonishment of off-topic banter. Any good community is going to have it. But I digress...

Wooji Juice has posted a couple of tuts on their YouTube channel in the past few days - one on Automation, one on Prefilter.

I enjoy the banter and was playing along. I think my terse and cynical sense of humor doesn't travel well along the information superhighway.

    :(

Good to know. Sorry that I misread you.

  • I thought it was funny. Came across just fine. :)

  • Can anyone sample some Norweigan trolls? Not Internet trolls mind you. Real ones. I hear they live deep inside the hilly forests way up north, inside caves. Just plant yourself inside one of those caves with a mic (they sleep during the day I believe), survive, and upload the recording. Btw, these "bigfots" people are talking about, are just the occasional stray Norweigan troll. Now you know the truth on that one.

  • Now that's some straying...

  • I would say the thread has gone south if not for the "Norwegian" reference.

I know, but apparently a trekking to Canada happens once in a while. There aren't any troll hunters over there so that might be it.
