My dream is to really learn Drambo one day. Specifically how to create amazing one of a kind instruments and environments for my Aerophone Wind Synth/Controller.
Along with Launchpad Pro and wireless Boss FS-1 Footswitch, Aerophone is by far my favorite midi controller atm and quickly becoming my favorite synth.
Falcon 3 is probably the deepest most expressive soft synth for wind controllers imo mostly because of its modular nature. For the same reason, I imagine Drambo would be an amazing playground for Aerophone.
For whatever reason I can’t even retain the basics so I revert to dead simple Zenbeats or Logic.
One day. 🙏🏽
Sidebar: If Drambo ever gets a physical modeling module I’m locking myself in a padded room until i master it.
You could do this already using CC messages.
I've just had a look at the midi implementation
for the Aerophone and for the most part it is doable.
I'm not surprised, for a wind player it would certainly be fun I can imagine.
You could do some very interesting things as is however
if you really want to go into a padded room be my guest. 😏
@CapnWillie With waveguide, fdn and the resonators (modal, bbd) there’s plenty fun to be had as of now
Drambo does not feature a padded room atm, but I’m sure it’s on the roadmap
Lol @Gravitas and @pedro Yeah I know. I meant to convey that like Falcon by UvI, Drambo looks like it be a great tool for making wind instruments, effect racks and sample triggers for really expressive sound exploration.
I just brought up the feature request for physical modeling module as something that would multiply my motivation factor exponentially. As it stands i know that I could easily host Qithesizer or any number of SWAM instruments as AU in Drambo and connect processors to effect the sounds.
At any rate, I just need to prioritize some Drambo only time to atleast see what the experience of using it with Aerophone will yield. It’s such an amazing accomplishment and I can tell by the “believers” how transformative it is. I’ll catch the spirit at some point.lol
Pretty sure you could build one with a negative setting on the Amp module, and a medium reverb setting
Helping out a friend to learn Drambo and i put this together for him today:
Probably a really basic question for some of you here, but how do I apply a parameter lock to multiple steps?
I select multiple steps on the sequencer, change a parameter, but the p-lock is only applied to the first of the steps selected and is cancelled immediately afterwards.
Is there a way to have the p-lock applied to all of the selected steps or do I need to select the steps individually and change the parameter for each of them?
As far as learning Drambo from scratch, I think a lot of people get stuck on learning stuff beyond the basic features, and not really understanding the underlying structure of gate/cv/clock. I mostly get it now, but it's still not something that clicks instantly. So any sort of tutorial or document that mainly explains one of the working parts or flow is not going to sink in and stay, unless it is anchored in the bigger picture. And it can be quite frustrating to start a project, and get a few tracks going, only to get hung up on trying to do something like a MIDI out or something, and realize that you can't because you need to learn how to get what you've created to properly output what you want and do more than just play a bunch of notes from the piano roll. Once you reach a certain critical threshold though, things accelerate and you get to a intermediate level and you can at least figure out where to look to find the answers you need - what specific keyword to look up (routing, sequencer, gate, cycle, etc.).
SoundForMore and Ben Richards for example have great tutorials, and they have been incredibly useful to me, but I find that they are very specific to highlighting the feature or procedure that is under review. I haven't seen a lot that take, for example, a workflow in GarageBand, and show the song creation process of something simple drums, bass, keys and pads and duplicating that in Drambo, and then using a few of the massive collection of tools to add effects and automation, and other stuff. If I've missed something, I'll be glad if someone can't point out some examples.
.
Yes that makes sense, and it also applies to modular systems in general, miRack was inscrutable to me until I started learning about CV/gates/math/logic from online articles and after that it all clicked. I got Drambo later on and I immediately could use it because now (like you said) I was building stuff by searching the module browser for specific keywords in no time. That’s probably a better starting point to learn Drambo/miRack
Good to see Beepstreet diversifying their range and reaching new audiences
Drambos flexi sampler doesn't record clean loops from patterns somehow, there's always a small audible gab at the end/beginning which isn't there in the actual pattern.
Can't really trim the silence because it destroys the timing. I've used the clip option in the recording submenu, the treshold option doesn't silence the beginning but doesn't work for exact loops either.
Is there a workaround in form of a plugin to record exact loops?
Forum software is glitchy, doesn't let me edit my last comment. Here you can follow the thread about the problem mentioned in my previous post: http://forum.beepstreet.com/discussion/2823/unable-to-record-clean-loops-from-patterns-with-flexi-sampler#latest
I’ve been using AUM for years, using instances of Drambo in AUM is amazing.
Any recommendation for tutorial that have a more global picture approach on music and song structure while using these gate/cv/logic/math tools?
Check out one of the longer factory songs, like "Drambo On Waves".
You'll find a lot of clues inside.
Another approach is to start with simple loops in Flexi Samplers, set them like this
and then add more stuff as you find your way through the many Drambo modules.
Can you allocate/turn off automation of parameter recording, per track ?
Or is it just a global setting ?
Also noticed another issue for me.
Would rather keep recording on and allocate automation recording per channel so I dont automate record some chosen channels but also with recording left on.
You cant access the middle bar without there being a red cross. So would probably have to stick to 8 bar live jams ( If I cant access the zoomed edits ) of 16 bars, with record left activated.
I haven’t used drambo in ages and I’m digging back in and relearning stuffs i forgot.
I must be a moron because i can’t figure out how to preview MIDI sequences being triggered by a MIDI app.
For example i have step poly arp driving kq dixie and i can’t hear what’s happening until i hit record lol i don’t want to record i just want to hear what im doing! What the heck am i overlooking here??
Not essential at the mo.
The live ting
but to not Automate mononoke ( although mapped to controller ) and then automate other synths so record is always enabled ( and you just updating/re-writing sequences for these synths ) with keyboard etc as loops.
I just made mononoke 16 bars and 1/64 speed.
So automation dosent actually activate because it wouldnt be a loop ( like other synths )
Unsure if it would work on a programming overload/cpu level.
Is there a way Drambo track pads can recieve last velocity state of controller mapped to track pads or better still. The last velocity state of itself ( the track pad )
and not be governed by the last Drambo keyboard note state ?
So audition velocity level via controller or track trigger.
Then input steps via screen
Without it resorting back to last keyboard velocity state ?
Tap on the little screen in Convolver and the sample browser will show up. Here you can select an audio file to use as an inpulse response. Common audio files are supported, like everywhere else in Drambo.
The sample folder is also available in the iOS Files.app under: On my iDevice => Drambo, or using WebDAV over WiFi directly.
Thank you. Is there a link anywhere to say 10/20 really interesting useful examples rather than having to dig through 100’s? I can’t see any stock examples in Drambo. Do you think you’ll add some at some point?
My suggestion is you focus on one feature that interests you at a time, and just watch videos regarding that. Also make sure they are more recent so they cover v2 of drambo (although many older videos can still help, with some adaptations)
And of course there’s the beepstreet forum where folks are always willing to help with any roadblocks you find along the way
Theres an issue
Its a similar static midi noise as when you try Bleass voices in Drambo.
But issue is with a sustain pedal mapped to more than 1 AU.
It makes a static midi clipping noise.
I bypassed cc64 ( not sure if a module were made to convert )
but use a blueboard.
Its not an issue in AUM.
Dont think using another host is feasable at this point ?
But cant really use Drambo. If it cant not clip, when using sustain on more than 1 AU.
Vid.
Id have to somehow incoperate aum ( from an ipad of 3 )
Which is just for pianos, trumpets etc.
So could still use Drambo in aum
Just wouldnt have automation of au's
but think its a main routing issue.
Like with bleass voices.
Apart from the midi clipping noise when trying to sequence the bleass harmonic voices.
The harmonic voices only had stereo up to track 8 ( output 8 )
So maybe an issue from when drambo were 8 tracks.
Just cant see why sustain would cause the same static noise.
Starts at 1.14.
I thought when playing pianoteq piano.
Then a electronic piano.
The noise were just an electronic pianos character.
Clearly an issue but maybe it can be resolved ?
