After spending alot of time in Zenbeats for the last month and a half, here’s my wish list.

    • Multi core (said it before )
    • Randomize midi note velocity
    • Humanize midi note placement
    • Update documentation
    • Song section marker
    • Tempo track
    • Zr1 packs of drum fills for sale
    • Flux capacitor

These would make Zenbeats pretty perfect for me.

That’s a near complete list. AU engine update too for me but that’ll come in time when they see AU aren’t working. I hope they actually listen to it

And the UI is beautiful. I love it. Simple, retro and clean

I like the UI too. At first a couple things confused/frustrated me that could have been solved in 15 second with a updated manual.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Please share what more you need from Roland Zenbeats in order to fulfill the “step up” part.

They need to refurb the entire UI, it's too wonky with weird spacings, fonts and generally just ugly as hell. Also, a shift button that can be held down (like in Scaler 2) to get extra options instead of all the menu diving. I would like to like this software, but those issues in addition to the extremely vanilla rompler sounds makes it plain boring to use.

Just trying to understand here, in order to fix things we must go deeper: what weird spacings? Can you show what you mean? The font is wrong… the wrong font, too big, too small…what do you think is wrong or wonky with the font? The ugly as hell part is kinda hard to fix since opinions differ. You think so, and I don’t so…. To each their own. I find it very convenient to hold a button for a sec or two to have menus opening up. A press shift function would mean two presses instead of one. I have no issues with long-pressing whatsoever. To me, that is a way to have a less cluttered UI and more effectively use a touch screen. But again, to each their own.

ZC1 is a bread ‘n butter sound bank based on the Zencore engine, giving the user easy access to and light editing of sounds from Roland. This is in order to reach a wide range of users. It is not marketed as anything else. If you don’t like it, you can use any AUv3 synth in the iOS universe. I have come to use ZC1 on a regular basis for basic sounds, and I find they mostly sit very well in a mix. Any synth aiming for bread ‘n butter sounds could be said to be boring, or vanilla, it is a matter of taste. If I need more advanced or exciting sounds, I just use a more advanced or specialized AUv3 synth.

That said, I wouldn’t mind a port of Zenology Pro to iOS, or a more advanced Roland synth like the Gaia 2 as an internal or standalone AUv3 synth, and both are noted feature requests in the backlog.

    /DMfan🇸🇪

Use your eyes and compare with Gadget (!), C3, Logic or anything else mostly. It just looks cheap, horrid and plain wrong coming from such a big company.

There is no point here in arguing about opinions. If you feel this way about Roland Zenbeats and don’t want to help out, that is fine. I wish you the very best in using one of the many other great DAWs on iOS.

    Regards,
    DMfan🇸🇪

Used my eyes and it still looks great to me 👍🏻 Logics UI is horrendous though. Impossible to deal with. C3 and ZB are a breeze in comparison.

Definitely worth pushing through with Zenbeats. Works very well on a Pro Max unlike Logic. I recommend reading the manual though.

For some reason this video is currently missing from the ‘How To’ playlist and was where I was getting stuck, so it might help others:

Would like to see full Zen Core included in iOS and would sub for it. A tempo/time signature track and multi-core would be great. I most want programmable scatter effects like you get in the MC707/101 though. More integration with Roland’s latest hardware would tempt me into buying more of it too.

+1 for MC integration, would think it’s in their interest to do so - and they have done MV-1…

As usual I’m with hotstrange on this. Like it just as good as Cubasis; I love them both but I prefer Zenbeats functionality. (It’s very easy to use and it has clip launching.).

Exactly man, we clearly all love it. And for good reason. I also love Cubasis. You made two negative , and objectively incorrect, comments that just show you aren’t into Zenbeats, in both threads.

If you don’t like Zenbeats, that’s fine, use whatever you like (but, no one wants to hear that you think your judgment or choice is bad or our eyes need to be checked)

Enjoy whatever you like, we’ll continue to use what we think is bester

  • I love Zenbeats. I find the interface fun and inspiring, and the features and workflow are fantastic.

Unfortunately I've had to move to Logic Pro because recording MPE midi into Zenbeats isn't possible yet.

Logic is pretty awesome for some things, but I WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK.

    My only wishes are:

    • recording midi from ALL cc's (which would give full MPE support)
    • pinch zoom on all the timelines (a little annoying not to have it on iPad)

    See you all soon hopefully

Hope to see you back soon! I couldn’t get along with Logic but I’m using Cubasis 3 mostly until a couple of things get worked out in Zenbeats (better automation, fixing some instability and crashing with AUs, mix busses). If they add that + yours, it’ll be unstoppable, imo.

I find Logic really uninspiring, BUT, quite stable and easy to navigate. Took me a while to settle in but I'll be happy here until Zenbeats catches up in MPE.

Logic is the only other DAW I could find that offers a full live looping setup combined with full timeline editing which is why I'll pay the price.

I'd happily drop $100 + on ZB but I can't make my music in there yet 🤷🏽

  • I’ve being digging into ZenBeats the last few days and I’m really enjoying so far.
I bought the iOS unlock, so I’m good to go.
There is one thing that is really doing my head in though, and it must be doable but for the life of me I can’t get it to work.
I want to record hardware synths and guitars into ZenBeats.
I can select any input I want from my interface, and I can see the audio coming in.
If I hit record, I can hear the recording when I press play.
But how do I monitor my input whilst recording, I’m obviously missing something.
    Please help😊

At the top of the channel strip, where you see the input (e.g. In 1), click to open the dropdown menu. Near the bottom you’ll see “Monitor” and there you’ll have the option to turn it on…

  • @Schmotown Brilliant, thanks so much.

did a reboot of my iPad and now it works.

    A stereo mix.

Stereo drums sound weird to me now.

Also makes me think everything else thats too much stereo by default is annoying.

I guess its a stereo mix. If the channels are mono.

  • @Schmotown @DMfan I'm making a sort of tour and getting started video, that should be up on YouTube at 8.00 pm UK time tonight (Thursday 5th October)
I made a few demos years ago when it was Stagelight and just after it became Zenbeats, so I've literally just started with it again, and so much has changed since then, so I'm definitely no expert, I guess the video will be a learning curve for me too.

The audio problem I had was the one thing I was having a problem with, so a big shout out to @Schmotown for that.

Super excited to see you diving into Zenbeats. C3 is still my favorite but ZB is a close second. Stoked to see what you make with it.

  • @HotStrange Yes, I’m enjoying it so far, I won’t be releasing the video today as planned though.
I still need to learn a few more things.
I did start the video but quickly came across another issue, by the time I’d sorted that out it was too late to carry on.

No problem, I’m looking forward to it either way. Also looking forward to seeing how you like it on the long run. The devs seem keen on making it top tier. It needs some work yet, but it’s already pretty damn great.

  • I like many Zenbeats features and I gave it another go the other day.

Unfortunately it seems I'm out of luck as a few of the Auv3 instruments and effects I am using do not work well with it. I reported those and now found one more, however last time it went weeks between replies with their support so I most likely won't be trying that route anymore.

But, fyi, the latest one I found is this: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/crunck-v2-guitar-amplifier/id1493297046

Previous version worked fine but v2 has this issue: you load the plugin, close it and open it again and it shows the mobile view instead of going full screen (iPad air 4)

This is the same issue I reported months ago with Rhino (funny enough, another guitar amp sim) and if Nembrini is going to update their other plugins as well, more people will likely get the same issue.

Will keep an eye on future updates

Great feedback! Even if you reached out to Roland Support, would you mind making a full list here in the thread of the AUv3s not working for you and in short what the problem is, and I´ll help get the info to the developer.

  • @DMfan , my most used amp sim, the Nembrini BST100 v2, doesn't show up in ZB. I reinstalled it, rescan the plug-ins in ZB… nothing works, no BST100.
