Just grabbed the Tonex SE for £36. I registered it in IK Multimedia Product Manager on my Mac but not sure how I can tell if the version now opening up in Logic Pro is the SE version or the CS version I had before (without attempting to download more than 20 tones from ToneNet!). Is there a way to see which version you are running?

Also, what do I need to do to unlock SE version on my iPad, where I also currently have the Free CS version?
    Thanks.

Awesome!! Yeah, I couldn't tell either. So what I did was to download it via the IK Download manager. Once it ran thru the whole install process it auto authorizes it since you are already logged in on the PC. Now, when you log into your IPad/iPhone make sure you are logged in to Tonex using the same credentials i.e. Username/password as in the IK Multimedia site for the IOS app to register and authorize. I did it this way and both my iPad/iPhone were automatically authorized with unlimited downloads from ToneNet.
Also you mentioned you had CS version, now you should have like 20 amps! I'm still learning but a lot of the Cabs used to be grayed out and now they're not so that's a good way to see Also.

On the iPad did you have to enter the TONEX SE serial number or did it just know once you logged in?

I only had to log in. It's worth mentioning that product registration works through installing the "IK Product Manager" app on Mac or Windows system. An IK Multimedia user account is required and on the iPad you
login to this account and the Tonex SE registration is shared to the iPad without asking for the serial number.

The requirement to create an IK Multimedia account will likely send a few potential buyers back to another option for Guitar Tones and there are many.

Do you know if you have to do the desktop registration with Ik prod manager etc before it will take on iOS app? I don’t use desktop or pc but I have access to a vm one I can do it on

I bought tonex se for 39 dollars earlier online but it won’t let me register with the code on the app, just says error. I have registered my account on there. I mist say it’s pretty horrifically done as always

Extremely confused myself, paid almost 50€ with taxes. Had already bought the clean pack. I have no intention of using this on desktop so if it doesn’t work I’m gonna cry and be really upset.
I hit “restore purchases” and the pop up says they’re restored… I can’t see the TONEX SE option or the clean pack. Does that mean that I’m ok?. It’s very odd that I have to guess what version I’m running because it’s the one NOT on the list…

Now I can’t see the tones I had already downloaded!. I’m using those on projects and I have no idea what they were!.
The store system is a mess.

    • there’s no info about the app version you’re running or IAP purchases?
    • You can’t log out of the account. This would at least enable you to see the difference
    • You don’t know how many user tone models you have left to download.
    • Where are my tones?. I had downloaded 55, 20 from the free version and 35 from the Clean IAP.

@Tones4Christ i don’t know how you figured this out, that buying the desktop version also got you the iOS IAP for TONEX SE. But I’m scared that seeing how messy the store and purchases system is it might not even be “standard” or intended.

PS: just opened the Logic project to see what would happen now that I can’t see my downloaded user tones and there’s 2 tones along the 246 IK ones!. The ones used on the song… all the rest are still MIA. So the app (which I reinstalled to see if o could figure out what version I was using) has recovered those 2 tones out of the dozens I had. I really can’t understand how this works.

I just saw your screenshot and it looks like your install and authorization went thru fine since you are connected to ToneNet. Just exit ToneNet like I said the previous post and you will see all your Tonemodels plus your presets!

I am scratching my head. I ran the authorizer on my Mac (though I couldn't actually install and run MAX because my Mac doesn't meet the minimum requirements). But the account area on the iK site shows me as having authorized the purchase. (I did run the iK authorizer app)

I think that should still work because you purchased the software off IK Multimedia. So as long as you sign into the app with the exact same credentials you should be good to go. I don't think the PC install authorizes your IOS install, it's what is recorded in your products section IK Multimedia that approves your purchases across all platforms.

I am already signed in and it says that I am registered on the iPad. It seems like it scans the database when you sign in. When I signed in, I hadn't yet purchased MAX. On my iPhone, I logged in after I had purchased the MAX upgrade. Connecting to ToneNet isn't making a difference.

If, on the iPad it still says you have option to upgrade to Tonex Max, then that authorization failed.

The iPad amd iPhone store should look exactly the same with only the Resotre Purchases option available.

  • Is anyone using Tonex as a Logic Pro plugin? I can’t stand the way it looks generally and, most importantly, the lettering is too small to be legible. I wish this wasn’t the case as I do like the way it sounds.

Not sure, but I wonder if they get auto stored on the web but that's probably something to look up in the manual. I've been so excited going thru the amps that I haven't even touched the manual lol 😆

Not that I can tell. The presets that I created on my iPad don't show up on the phone.

@ExAsperis99 : changing the password didn't solve it. I did have to log back in -- but it didn't refresh the models :(

Yes. I have the latest version. The same version on the iPhone and iPad.

  • Hopefully this issue gers resolved so you can fully enjoy it.

  • There's a Dumble Overdrive Special #0080 in there. I think this is going to be my dream amp tone guys! I changed the stock Cab to the Black Cat 30 Chime and oh man, it instantly made me smile!

The Name of the preset is called:
    Cleaner ODS Rock

Hope you can enjoy it as well! It is amazing especially if you put your fav overdrives or distortion before it.

I lost my presets too, ie, user tone models. I asked a while back about getting a list or somehow seeing what user tones you had downloaded, no luck.
I’m thinking that when purchasing Tonex SE the serial number is different, as it’s not “really” an IAP. If you look under products on Ik Muktimedia user account you’ll see serials for both the free and SE versions. Might be that the tones are linked to the old serial?. Shouldn’t be the case, as they should be linked to the user.

  • I truly hope there's a way to Save presets somewhere in cases of resinstall. I would be so bummed after all the searching and tweaking.

I really hope you guys are able to recover yours. I wonder if they'reavailable somewhere on the cloud maybe in a folder. I don't have apple cloud enabled I think. I wonder if I should just to make sure they're stored somewhere as backups.

I might go to the IK Multimedia forum and ask cause this is big issue.

I have tried all of the three applicable serial numbers and get an error entering them. My guess is that it is automatically matching something that won’t be re-done unless I delete and reinstall.

  • I figured out how to back up the user Presets. It's slow but it worked!!!
I'll post in later. Don't delete yet.

  • OK depending how many they are is going g to be a short pain bit it worked for me.
Create and AUM session and called Tonex.
    Add Tonex as AU.
Bring up the preset you want to Save.
Now just tap in the AUM Preset folder and select the little plus sign to create a new Preset for Tonex.
Name it Exactly as your Tonex Preset. What I do is copy and paste name.
Now, select save in AUM. Bam! Now that Exact Preset is saved in AUM.
Do this for every single important Preset you love!!
    Rinse and repeat!

Oh, make sure to Save the AUM session.

You can even now share that AUM session with all the presets to your iPhone via air drop or dropbox!!! So awesome!
Need is the mother of all inventions man!!!

  • That is exactly how I keep my two ipads synced, with AUM presets for Tonex

  • edited November 2023

Hey Kids, apologies if this has been asked 100 times already but I just bought Tonex SE (got it for $46 AUD) on desktop and I believe this unlocks the iPad version as well? How does one go about this? TIA!

Edit: why do things have to be so easy?!? I logged in to my account on the iPad version and I assume this has given me SE powers now.

  • I saved my presets into Loopy Pro then deleted the app and reinstalled and now I can see the MAX content.

  • That works with AUM too. Then, Delete Tonex, reinstall and login. Voila.

I might go to the IK Multimedia forum and ask cause this is big issue.

The presets are there, somewhere in the cloud/ikmuktimedia data), just not visible on the app.
I had an issue in the past related to this, let me explain… The documentation on all this user tone download stuff is lacking. So I thought that being able to have 20 downloads meant “at a given time”. Meaning that if I deleted the tones I could get new ones. So I deleted user tones from the app and omg now I couldn’t download any more tones cos my quota was full. But I didn’t have my old user tones, the ones I had downloaded and then deleted. So if I remember correctly they addressed this and had a fix, but maybe not… you should be able to recall your user tones anytime.
When you guys are talking about saving presets in AUM, Loopy or whatever is very much like what happened to me in Logic. I had no user tones on the app after this upgrade process. But I opened the Logic project and (luckily) the tracks with Tonex using User tones worked, the tones used in the project were retrieved. So it goes in line with my comment before. The tones are there just not recalled by the app, and a preset or a session that uses those tones will “refresh” the list and bring those back. This, IMO, is a flaw or a bug in the app.

  • I heard from iK support. Delete, reinstall, sign-in is the official solution to the MAX content not being unlocked.

I've totally been enjoying this amazing app!
For those of you that like the tone of the Bad Cat amp, here's a video of this guy who captured it with Tonex, and shared the Bad Cat rig capture free.

    Totally loved the tone!
