  • Catching up on the App Store and a recent Tonex review claims that to use the app live you must have an internet connection, especially for ToneNet presets. Is this true?

Personally I always have my iPhone or iPad in airplane mode (but with Bluetooth on) when using them live, so as not to have anything ruined with a disruption. I can imagine people using it on iPhone having cellular on and being fine with it, but with an iPad that doesn’t have a SIM card and no internet access, that sounds like a total design failure… if it’s true…

Tonex works fine in airplane mode. If you have saved ToneNet presets locally, they work, too.

Good to know. Weird that the reviewer quoted IK support saying you have to have an internet connection. Maybe he meant just to download ToneNet presets live? Or perhaps IK updated the app…

  • Does anyone know if the 3rd party captures work with the Tonex app?

The reviewer may have misunderstood iK support or vice versa?

Do you mean the 3rd-party captures available on ToneNet? There are a lot of them. Yes, they work in the iOS Tonex app.

Not sure what you mean. ToneNet is mostly or all 3rd-party captures.

They’re talking about 3rd party captures separate from Tonenet. Unless things have changed I am pretty sure they can only be used on desktop.

Sorry, yes that's what I meant. Commercial captures. Not ToneNet ones.

I see. I didn't even realize there was such a thing.

@espiegel123 Amalgam Captures, Jason Sadites, Choptones, Fremen, New Vintage Audio, Overthrow Audio, SinMix and probably many many more.

Some that are on ToneNet also have their own website sales.

I found a third party (tonefactor) that has a free tone model. I can find no way to import it..,and on the iK forum lots of people talking about it not being possible. Guess it is time to write to iK support.

    @ikmultimedia : any input?

I just gave it a shot and no way to import or share was evident to me.

  • There is no way to import commercial captures into the iOS version unless it is purchased from the IK site.

I've read only good things about Amalgam. Are the Amalgam captures available to download from ToneNet on the iPad? If not, which are the next best captures?

Edit: looking for clean tones mostly, edge of breakup, Fender.

There’s a ton of these on ToneNet. I would certainly recommend getting whatever pack (if possible on sale) that lets you unlimited downloads. I haven’t found some “names” or sound packs to be superior per se, you might have some dodgy tone somebody uploaded to fit just right. I think that’s the fun of it.

They should be. Amalgam do IK site captures as well as selling from their own website.

You can also load your own IRs too so you can mix and match stompboxes, amps and cabinets.

I figured out a way to do it. I had no choice. I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max live on my pedalboard along with my analog drives and pedals. So I really wanted to find a way to do but every where online there were only half posts on how to do it. But I was able to load the ones from Tonefactor.com which are awesome and from Worship Tutorials.com! They're are simply amazing!
Thing is, it's not easy and it takes using a third party software called iMazing. It works though.

I have iMazing. What did you do to get the 3rd tone models visible in the app?

  • Can you PM me?. Reason is, someone might try it and mess their install. So rather to prevent that.

  • I really hope IK Multimedia releases an IOS update to allow users to load these 3rd party purchases. It already allows it for the PC or Mac so why not IOS? @IK_Multimedia any chances this can happen?

Thanks. Out of curiosity, how did you figure it out?

Big time need! I love the 64' Vox AC Top Boost amp ToneX capture from Worship Tutorials.com that I was going to risk bricking my old iPad. However, I found half a post somewhere where it said something about the file that has all your presets and that's what triggered my techy spirit. The rest I figured as I went. Thankfully it worked. But some of the Tonefactor free ampsnare already on ToneNet so if you don't have to mess with digging in the OS, the better.

I never put my phone with cellular on while playing live! Imagine getting a call while doing a song??? Yikes, so make double sure it's on airplane mode and disable any emergency announcements in settings.
