Yep, fair point. But it's not just fewer grains @Gavinski ...I think it may be a longer release time on the envelope that I'm wishing for. Might that be feasible @brambos ?

The envelopes are the envelopes of the individual grains (in granular, the jargon is "window" rather than envelope, don't ask me why :) ); i.e. the "shape" of each tiny little speck of sound.

So changing the release of the grain envelope would not make the grains longer. If the grain size is set to 10 milliseconds, it would still be 10 milliseconds, just with a different overall shape.

You can increase the length of the grains (with the grain size slider) and play around with the window-shape slider to find the optimal combination (it morphs through several different grain shapes). But due to the nature of granular synthesis, individual grains will always be measured in milliseconds, rather than seconds. :)

Sure. Understood. Iโ€™ll keep playing around. Thanks again ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

  • Spacecraft lets you have longer-than-normal grain sizes, morphing from the granular domain into arpeggiation. It is probably why so many have said "I'm normally not into granular, but Spacecraft resonates with me!" :D

  • @brambos Hidden function: I've noticed that while Fluss Instrument Plugin can load MP3 through its "WAV" button, the file selector shows them grayed out (most probably because you're filtering it with ".wav" so to speak). I can still select my grayed out MP3 by long pressing them though but it would make sense, I think, to update your file picker selector with something like ".wav,*.mp3" (and with other file formats supported by your library). Well, you get the idea

    Thanks!

Ooooh... great, thanks for the heads up! I'm using iOS built-in file import functionality, so it probably lets you import any audio file supported by the system :D

I prefer to have my system in light mode but some apps do look better in Dark mode :sunglasses:

It's the subtle button in the top left corner. You can switch at will B)

Nice, just noticed the small black/white dot left of the red knob.
Hopefully it's a 'sticky button' that preserves it state when creating new instances.

Yes it saves the preferred state, but if multiple states are already open you may need to set them individually (it only checks the pref when opening the plugin)

  • In case someone's wondering where the green has gone: I had to update the color scheme to make it easier for most variations of color blindness to tell the different tints apart :)

  • Lovely, but I reckon thereโ€™s still room to the left of the Pitch label, for a nice little padlock icon/buttonโ€ฆ.

I guess the answer lies here:

"The density doesn't go any lower because that's not how granular is meant to be used. The concept is to build new textures out of a multitude (cloud) of grains, hearing individual grains is not really the point."

Kashi is simply saying he would like grain density at it's lowest to have fewer grains than it currently does without having to, for example, lower pitch. He wants the slider range to go lower than it currently does.

So, instead of โ€œgoing to 11โ€ he wants them to go to โ€œminus 11โ€? ;)

  • Hey Flussers, anyone now how to switch off the dry signal when using in Aum in record mode?

I want to feed it from an aux bus from another channel so don't want the dry sound playing through when sampling.. this has to be possible or me missing something right?

No, the Recorder was made to have an easy interface for quickly recording presets and snippets. It's not really meant to be a live looping/performance environment indeed.

Simply switch off or disable the input in AUM when you're done recording.

  • ok thanks, it would be cool if it was an option as I think it will make the levels jump when recording even in that case. Apart from that, its great work I love the modulation system

  • So are those 3 dots for individual grain parameters for each colour!?

@jsmonzani - could you give a bit more detail - I'm tapping the WAV button and navigating to an MP3 file but if I long press I'm only getting the standard Files app share menu - how are you getting the file into Fluss? Thanks...๐Ÿ‘

Ahh - ok, so at the moment it's not possible to import mp3 files into Fluss? I was confused by the original post which seems to indicate that it can be done...

It can be done at least for me. Long press on your MP3, get the popup menu with all info, etc on the file, then press again on the file to open it (tested on iOS 15)

  • Yes itโ€™s already possible. I just had to make the browsing and selecting part easier ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Looks like iOS 16 has broken that option...I'll wait for the update...๐Ÿ‘
