  • I do love how smooth the pitch knob repitches, even the course knob. Koala produces artifacts whenever I re-pitch, whether it’s through the knob with snap to semitones disabled, through the FX, or through a warped clip with the repitch algorithm.

Also, the drag to retrigger time and or pitch is most Krunksford-like.

And normalize is just one button away.

But I’m still continuing to use Koala. I won’t be asking for features. I’ll just wait to see if they happen.

What a beautiful and smooth app! Having fun with it already. So easy to pick up and jam. But please consider landscape. My iPad stand only allows me to play landscape the way I have my rig setup.

    Uhh.

I tend to delete Apps that want an iPad to be used in portrait mode.
What a strange idea from an developer... never understood this 😳

Any any and all regular cases or covers only allow for the iPad to be in landscape mode.
Even when in bed or sitting, it is more naturally to have it this way...

The app is laid out like the classic Roland S series samplers which are vertically oriented and very popular with hip-hop and lo-fi producers. I primarily use my iPad horizontally but I have made an exception for this app. None of my iPad cases have ever been restricted to strictly horizontal use.

  • I don't love it. It's got an awkwardness to it, sure it has some features some other things don't have, but it's got a ways to go, design-wise. Not sure if the iap made it better, as its contents were not clear. I spent an hour with it, then deleted.

  • It doesn’t have Ableton Link as far as I can see?

Agreed, I use the smart keyboard almost always, any app in portrait mode (New Path is guilty of the same, even if it can rotate properly at least)) because it is basically using the same GUI for iPhone and iPad will never get any kind of regular use from me, it's pure laziness and inconsiderateness towards the user.

That said, a) I get anickt's point b) when playing the pads most people are going to want to lay their sampler flat for more accurate playing and less wrist fatigue c) this is a pretty damn cool sampler, from first impression at least. I'm also glad the free version gives people a chance to properly see what it is like before buying. It's actually very generous how much you get for free. Decent manual, though neither the manual nor the app store description mention what the 4 extra fx are. What are they? I wonder if the dev has overestimated how many people will be willing to the pay full price of 20 bucks for 2 more kits, 4 more fx (especially if you can use your own fx) and removal of watermarks from vids when you could always just screen record anyway

Tremolo, Gate, Chorus and EQ. Also now AUfx. I’ve seen apps priced at similar levels that are not as useful as this one is. IMHO! 😎👍🏼

  • Got a second iPad Pro 9.7 inch so intend to run this on that in portrait mode for now to get use out of this app. Landscape would be a nice addition from the dev along with AU itself plus Ableton Link. Took me a minute to find the AU FX section stuck away under settings!

Pure laziness? Give the dev a break.

If landscape orientation is important to you , fine...say so...but you don't have be insulting. It's unkind and unfair to accuse people of being lazy without knowing how much work would be involved, what the likely payback would be, or what the reasoning is.

  • Rolls eyes

  • If there's one developer that is 'lazy' when it comes to iPad landscape support it's Meta/Instagram...

  • Tried the app, definitely looks (and sounds) nice. Portrait orientation did not bother me, though I would prefer the landscape orientation. I didn't realise until I went to App Store that this is the same developer who created Vector Q, one of my favourite apps for turning images into vectors. I hope he gives Dawn Beat, the same attention.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I’d like an option to set the length of the Memorizer buffer, it’s fine as is, and is definitely cool that you can have so much in there to sift through but then again sometimes you don’t want to sift through that much. I opened it at one point and had an entire wall full of midi data and had to zoom in all the way to the end to find the most recent noodle I wanted.

Also are the fx global only or is there a way to have per pad fx? And what does the little resample toggle do?

    Nice!

Yep! The slices I’ve done so far are good. I don’t care if it’s portrait only. I’m finding a lot to like in this app. 😎👍🏼

  • DawnBeat it’s on the way to the top 👍🏼
an equal slices option can be great

  • Please add landscape mode, PLEASE!

You are in the woke kindergarten now Gav - you are not allowed to upset anyone.

  • Dev is working on landscape mode for all you babies that can’t turn your iPad. 😉

  • Damn, this thing is trucking along nicely. The dev seems really dedicated to it

I’m going to give them a couple of weeks and then see what they say about multiple fx channels.

Another thing about landscape mode is that it really messes up the ability for youtubers to make a video on the app, so it is very much in the dev's own interest to sort out landscape mode. Otherwise jumping in an iPad between aum and this would be a terrible viewing experience.

Simon, wtf? . It's not about being "woke" or people can't say anything critical.

Gav's "pure laziness" remark about the developer was insulting and ill-informed. Being insulting isn't edgy or being "real" or cool. It's just mean. I think the developer has demonstrated an ample lack of laziness.

It isn't hard to express disagreement without being insulting.

  • True it is clear he is not lazy, I take that comment back

  • Not lazy, simply perverse.

  • Wow this app is really working its way up. I’ve been messing with it quite a bit and I really like it but I have to be careful. It’s pulling me away from my 404 😂
