i also just realized you can set dawnbeat to record record any audio that is playing anywhere on your iphone or ipad. just click record, and play any audio on you phone/tablet and it records it write into dawnbeat. this is excellent for youtube sampling, or sampling from podcast, movies, a streaming service etc. so fast and very smart.
the more i dig, the cooler this app gets.

That is a really nice feature. I only realised today that the little speaker icon at the top right can be used for resampling. Great app.

  • Jeez, that is super handy. A lot of apps could use that feature!

Fuck I love koala and it’s still my workhorse but oooooh em geee if this app stays supported I’m gonna make a lot of fun things. If I can get my NMSVE to work with this boo boy…. Reverb and delay and filter are 10x more usable than koalas onboard. And it’s crucial I use phone only these days cuz the iPad 8th gen in the house is getting older and I got a banging iPhone 11 for music purposes, and this is great on the phone

Same sentiments here. I initially wanted the connectivity of being able to load Dawnbeats as an AU so that you can sample from within iOS, but then that would kill the ability for it to host AU FX (iOS limitation). Plus, there is already Koala for that. I feel that it’ll never be Koala or DW. Definitely both.

[Edit] I read your post after I posted @eross . Holy shit balls, that’s fantastic. All this time I’ve only been using that button to record AU FX. I thought the screen recording was only for within DW. Sweet.

What? That’s fantastic! OK, time to load up on some funny money + get this IAP.. Dawnbeat is progressing at a fairly good pace.. also glad to see the dev open to suggestions (from experienced iOS users).. we only want a better mousetrap.. 🤣

  • The memorizer feature is really cool! No support for odd time signatures?

I just tested this, it seems to be recording from the mic, not from internal audio - is that the way it is working for you? If so that makes everything sound super lofi

Wow, that got me interested in this app, very useful feature for quickly recording samples from other synths or limited connectivity apps like GarageBand! Does anyone know an easy way to get a pad sample back out of the app without first re-recording it internally and then sharing the audio, which inevitably requires the sample to be trimmed? It feels like there should be an export pad option somewhere but I haven’t found it yet.

That’s strange, it’s definitely recording internal audio here.

  • Yep recoding works
    From internal
Was recording from mic at first but had to do it from the top left menu button
Bit of fiddling but got it working, and with out the iap
This is panning out to be a good app

I also definitely can’t make it record from internal. Restarted device, still not working.

And the manual does not state that it records from internal

    www.laranxaworks.com/dawnbeat/guide.html

The mic button records mic or line in. The speaker button records output - I assume this only means output from DawnBeat, because I also tried using it to record internal audio from other apps on the off chance, but it doesn’t record anything except my performance in DawnBeat.

  • There was this one sampler app long long time ago called Fingerbeat…
…I loved it so dearly before the developer dropped it to pursue another career…
It didn’t survive the migration to 64-bits way back and it can’t be re-downloaded to older devices.

    I miss it too much.,.

Yes, it works, thank you very much!

There’s three different audio recording options guys
    1. Microphone icon on the wave page left side: records from mic into selected pad.
    2. Record icon above the pad faders top right: records any internal audio with the option to place it into any pad afterwards, this is your resampling function
    3. The screen record in the tools menu: same as iPad screen record function, but it has a big status window that pops up over everything so you might as well just access it from the iPad dock thingy and do it the regular way. Obviously this would be good for recording entire performances

Hope that clears things up a bit

  • I bought the app mostly out of solidarity with woke kindergarteners (won't anyone think of the children?) and also because it's on sale. It seems really cool, but is it standalone only? No way to connect with AUM or a DAW? No Ableton Link?

  • @Gavinski

See the confusing bit earlier in regards to your second point was the definition of 'internal audio'. I had interpteted that as meaning device internal audio but really it meant the output of dawnbeat itself. Anyway, all clear now! Cheers

I can not see a quantize or swing function. Also is there a distortion/bitcrush FX?
    Thanks in adavance

Yes, there is bitcrush per pad.
In pads view, to the right of the ABC bank select, select adjusts.
Then in the view up top you have three pages of per pad treatment. You’ll see the arrows on the left and right to scroll pages.

    1) Pad trigger behavior/ reverse/tuning
    2) filter/res
    3) Four different “resample” algorithms.

I remember seeing a quantize switch, but I haven’t messed with the sequencer enough to see what it’s related to.
    Dunno about swing.

@Blipsford_Baubie thanks for info. Not sure if its just me but the following does not reload after saving.
PADS /Adjust/ Resample / Downsample- parameters are not saved. The app reverts to default settings. Also still can not find the quantize / swing settings. Is the dev active on here?

  • From the manual. In WAVE Edit “Use the top area to apply zoom & pan the waveform”
Anyone figured out how to “pan” the waveform?
    Thanks in advance

  • @stormbeats
Quantize is on when it’s green.. 16th note grid only (so far).. you can write notes with it on (easier) or edit notes that you’ve recorded in (trickier)..
There’s also another one in the Memorizer section..
No swing that I can find..

I think panning the waveform is referring to moving the waveform left or right in that window.. not actually panning the sound left or right..

  • Quantizing is weird. Not working properly and seems to only be available in piano edit. Hope to see a simple quantize button and swing slider on the UI

Ok yes I think so too. Bit confusing

  • Quantize only works when notes are written manually in like step editing. If the dev reads this please add record quantize when playing / recording pads
