That is correct, super useful
Thanks for the thorough answer.
Some clarification, perhaps. I'm not tied to the idea of Audioshare, except it's the app i know from many years ago and always seemed perfect for preparing and organising audio. This period of iOS adventuring I'm just looking for the most efficient use of space (Currently working with a 64Gig iPad), when it comes to sample-management.
I like your idea of using BM3 as a hub, as it seems to be my 'main squeeze'. And avoiding duplication when importing into it would be a great bonus. But I really would like to have a sample-management system that allows for one-touch audio-previews. Audio previewing is possible in 'Files', but involves clicking on the file, hitting play, then another click to return to base. Not a huge stress, unless I'm trying to decide between hundreds of snares (Where's an iOS version of XO, Atlas or CSOMOS? 😉 )
Will have to try the Koala workaround idea, though...as that seems pretty simple.
Cheers
Yep, can understand that. I felt the same way but having the bulk of my samples outside of Audioshare means I can preview them really easily inside apps like Dawnbeat, Koala and Sitala. If I want to preview files outside of these apps I just use Sample Crate instead. I still use Audioshare for AUM recordings but that’s about it.
Thanks! Curious about your workflow with it. I can see that it doesn't D & D to Dawnbeat, but will wit allow it with BM3, Koala etc.
Thanks!
So Dawnbeat can preview with a folder before importing it? Also curious, what would stop you using Samplecrate as the main way of accessing these files? I have no argument why you should, as I've never used it. but it would seem like what it was designed to do, no?
Import is probably misleading terminology on my part. You basically tell it which folder you would like to browse and then it allows you to browse and preview the contents inside the app. Dawnbeat has it’s own sample preview player built in.
Koala does the same thing but you can point it at multiple folders. Or you can use the file import method I mentioned earlier. This brings up a file browser alongside Koala with a sample preview player, much like Sample Crate, that you can load files from (useful if you have everything in Audioshare).
I mainly use Sample Crate to make sample chains for use in external gear.

Yes, I usually keep it in slideover mode and use it to quickly preview samples and then drag and drop them into things like Koala loaded in AUM.
Ah, yes...the clarification between import and browse makes it all clearer
Will have to mess around with a few of these options. BM3 still sits at the top of the sampler pile for me. but I'm finding it hard to chose between DB and K for quick 'n' (as well as) mobile solution. Probably not the thread in which to elaborate.
Many thanks
THanks!
Is AS is your main sample repository, or is SC linked to samples in all different places? I assume it can also read from external drives? Lastly, do you have BM3?
AA Sample Player just links to samples, it doesn’t actually store them. SC has access to all samples on your device, including the ones in Audioshare (AA Sample Player also has files and Audioshare access btw). I have BM3 but never really ended using it once I settled on AUM. I don’t use external drives but pretty sure SC can read them.
Thanks! AA Sampler looks cool, but I can't see any advantage in adding that for my use-case.
What I'd really like is something like SC to access a hub of samples. Then I'd like to import them into something to make kits. Ordinarily, that would have been BM3; or at least it was until i discovered that per-pad beats referred only to a specific internal selection of FX.
Dawnbeat seems like it could be a contender. If I buy the IAP I can add AuFX onto each pad, to make my kits, then use within DB, but also export to BM3, Koala etc.
Does that sound feasible? If so, add my +1 for Sample Crate D&D compatibility
Updated:
Audio Unit Instruments support.
@telegato how to disable the automatic repeat note sending on tap hold ?
Makes playing a longer sample impossible without accidentally repeating it.
If this was a quantized repeater it would make sense. But i don't understand why this is default behavior and why it can't be disabled.
Thank you!
Select the pad, go to X/Y, turn 'Drag to retrigger' off.
Thank you! Missed the latest update.
Would be great to have the pads behave like momentary fx triggers.
The pads play notes in pads and sequencer mode. After that they will he more functional as fx triggers
So you map pad 1 to Flutter
Then map x and y for that pad to fx parameters
Visually this communicates to a user that its playing and recording. But this is the state of not playing or recording.
Blinking is usually used to communicate something is about to happen.
This behavior adds cognitive load because its confusing.
Took a punt on this after the latest update. I must admit I feel a bit guilty as Koala sampler has been such a huge influence on me.
Any tips on sorting choke groups. It’s confusing. TIA
-Select the pad you would like to do the choking.
-Select X/Y then use the green < / > to navigate to Link Pads.
-Tap and Drag the = next to Note Off
to the pad you would like choked.
In this example, I have Pad 5 choking pads 6 and 7. A link symbol appears on the pad doing the choking (Pad 5 here). It looks like you can only set two chokes per pad (unless I’ve missed something).
@TurnItUp thanks Will give it a try. I’am going to email dev to ask if a simpler choke group function with more chokes can be updated. Similar to Koala
Haha I feel that 😂 after using Dawnbeat for some time though (and Koala since release), I find myself using them and appreciating them in different ways. It has quite usurpers Koala for me but this is a huge update. Love them both a hell of a lot.
Updates:
Recording count in. (Configuration/Audio).
Drop audio samples into pads from 'Files', 'Sample Crate' and others files managers.
New menu 'IMPORT', import audio from 'Files' and 'Audioshare', extract audio from video.
'Note OFF link' replaced with 'Note OFF groups'.
Nice! That change to how choke groups work is particularly welcome. The old way hurt my brain.
@FordTimeLord I agree regarding the choke groups. I suggested the new choke group setup only a few days ago to the dev via email and he sorted it already. Impressive work . This app can only get better with each update.
Would love to see the effects to be applied on a per pad basis in any future update. I assume it’s not possible at present.
Would work great using AudioScope at the end of each pad for mixing controls especially using AU,s instruments on pads.
Just found out about this, it’s pretty cool and fun, but is there no stem export for sequences we make, if we wanted to assemble and mix them in a DAW for example?
it was made FREE!
get it

Not only that, but the bigs have been fixed. Which is a relief!
🤣
AUM does not recognise it, even after a reboot. Not as AUV3, IAA or Midi. Also, I do get a lot of crashes.
Edit: Ah, now I see .. it can load AUs .. not be one...
I wonder if this means it will be abandoned?
