Since multitap delay for iPhone came up recently, I wanted to share a recommendation for iPad. I picked up OtherDesertCities by Audio Damage the other day and it doesn't take much tweaking to make some beautiful delays! It's on sale right now. I swear I'm not affiliated with Audio Damage ;)

+1 for OtherDesertCities, a fantastic delay for a ridiculously low price! Check out this excellent walkthrough that sets itself apart from many others through its understanding of production and from which some other Youtubers can learn a lot:

Hmmm which version of magic death eye should one pick?

    Stereo.

    and because?

Because two ears are better than one?

Both versions are in stereo. “Stereo” version compresses channels separately, while the other one doesn’t. But it’s still two-channel stereo. The non-stereo version is modeled on a mono hardware compressor. 😅

    😂

I was just going to say because the “Stereo” version is the newer product of the two. That, and it has the subtle EQ features.

I’m not an expert on compressors, but I remember when I was trying to decide the same thing, I read and read about these, trying to figure out which one (because I could only buy just one at the time), but the general consensus at the time, was that the newer “Stereo” version was the better buy.

There’s a long thread here on the forums that goes over the differences between the two. I’ll let someone else search for it!

Besides, it costs more, so it must be better, right? 🤣

Thanks, I think I am now at where you where. I can be very indecisive about these things. But the stereo seems very tempting, especially in a master chain.

It’s known for gentle and warm compression (multiple sources say that). Also good for mastering, just think about it: you only have six predefined sculpting positions (attack, release). They didn’t give you the option to ruin your mix, haha. Also, EQ is more like a weird shelf tilt. I would say pretty much safe compressor. I love harmonic distortion dials.

The other “non-stereo” compressors are punchier and a little less gentle, but they are pretty much the same tube based compressors, both on the warm side.

I really enjoyed the beta, haven’t grabbed it yet but it’s high on my list despite having many fx apps. It can do a lot of different things. I’m gonna get it.

Lolz I had the exact same line of thinking and bought the stereo version!
I thought I read somewhere that the stereo version was better for master and bus. The other for channel. Does that sound correct?

I sided with Dan's view that DDMF should have packaged both flavours together as a single plugin for the bundle price, as that's still a reasonable asking price for what's on offer. I wouldn't be without either.

In the hardware realm, things are different, as one is a mono tracking compressor and the other a stereo unit that excels on busses. But the 'mono' plugin version isn't, in fact, mono, as that doesn't make sense in the realm of DAW channels, where stereo always comes for free. And the 'mono' plugin has a different response character and tonal quality to the stereo plugin, but it isn't until you trial both on a particular task that you find out which is better for that particular task.

So if budget allows, bite the bullet and buy both. :)

    IAP Sales

What website/app are you using that shows the sale prices for IAP so nicely?

Also, thanks for all your hard work! I check this thread pretty much every day now and your posts are always informative with clarifications and details about sales.

    Thank you.

Appraven. It’s good. To get the IAP price drops they unfortunately have an IAP. You can subscribe or buy it lifetime. If you sign up free with only an email and use my code 1516BA, we each get two free weeks. You can only enter the code within the first week or so of creating a new account. So if you already have a appraven account, simply create a new one and enter the code. Someone shared one with me, and I created a new account, since I had one, and it worked.

    Create a new account,
add this code in th3 correct place in settings - 1516BA
get 2 free weeks of the full app.

It doesn’t automatically charge you if you forget to cancel either.
It’s only available as an app.

✅This is an open invitation. Anyone can use this code and we both get 2 free weeks. Also if you’re gonna get two free weeks sometimes soon would be a great time to try it. Cheers.

Dang, I likely won't be paying for it any time soon, but I used your code and will check it out. Thanks!

Yea I meant I was looking for something to fill a Replika hole on my soul 😄

I know that you are just shill Native Instruments, ;) but I took the time to check for a good multi-tap delay on the iPhone for everyone interested. Replika XT is an under-the-hood multi-tap delay.

    • Yukawa - a very popular and praised multi-tap delay on iOS. Simply the powerhouse.
    • Chow Matrix - maybe the best multi-tap delay of them all. People are scared of the UI, those who love it keep it as a secret tool.
    • UltraTap - I love this one from Eventide. Guitarist-oriented but usable for anything else without any drawback.
    • Kajita - superb two stage multi-tap delay and reverb. Very complex usage of spatial effects. You can filter reverb early reflections body and the tail separately. Taps are time-modifiable, like those in Timeless 3.
    • Tap Delay - VirSyn. It is fantastic, and it is easy to set up a multi-tap delay.
    • Kosmonaut - only 4 taps, tape, haas fx, and more. BramBos jewel.
    • TTap - K-Devices, not quite multi-tap delay but has it in the name, haha. But we can randomize repeats with good control and syncing.

Everything from this list works on the iPhone, I have them all and use them regularly.

Timeless can do tap delays too. As well as Other Desert Cities.

I haven’t tried Ultra Tap but it seems great. I think the Virsyn app is my personal favorite tap delay. TTAP and ChowMatrix are cool as hell too.

I mean kinda yeah but like with all synths, it has its own unique UI and sound. They’re similar in features but both have something good to offer, imo. And the speedy workflow in PolyWave makes it a ton of fun.

Wow midi would be amazing. It’s definitely a super fun app but that would be next level. I would love to see them add sampling to the AUV3 version of SK-51 too. Never understood why they left that out.

ODC is a top app for me also but Timeless is almost always my go to delay unless I want something very particular. It’s just so good a versatile. Those Neon Silicon apps are amazing too. Hard to believe those and the Chow apps are free considering they’re both (imo of course) 2 of the best developers on the platform.
