Yeah looks like only the first 2/3 support AU. I have their Vox organ and it sounds great.

IAP of AUV3 in Koala is now free.

Kind of annoying when devs do that. Customers who paid are left feeling like chumps, notwithstanding "if it wasn't worth it to you, you shouldn't have paid in the first place" argument.

I don’t feel like a chump at all. I’m happy I’ve been able to AUV3 this entire time and the money went towards supporting a great dev. Win-win. Kinda like saying that when an app goes on sale too. No need to feel like a chump because someone else got it cheaper. It’s just the way it is.

True. If you're happy when you buy something, don't be unhappy if the price changes later. Things are always changing and you can't predict the future.

Especially on iOS when an app can go on sale for 50% off hours after you bought it. I speak from experience 😂

Yeah, I bet we’ve all had that happen to us a few times. 😂 That’s life as a consumer in general.

Devs giving their stuff away feels a bit different to me. It’s not great when you’ve supported them at full price.

Most apps are really small purchases. Think of how much Koala would cost as hardware. I’m very grateful that it’s an incredible app that costs about as much as a cup of coffee, and it is beautifully made. The developer also has thrown incredible updates for free… I’ll always be happy giving money to people that deserve support.

Same! Considering what I spent on this and Dawnbeat vs what an MPC or 404 costs is nuts. I’ve owned both of those and honestly have way more fun with both apps than the hardware. It’s so much more obtuse. (Though I did love the 404, not so much the MPC).

I guess they are doing it as a promotion to get exposure to attract more sales down the road - not to upset existing users.

If it keeps them in business then you get ongoing updates - which is good for you.

  • Or maybe it’s that this far down the road, not including the au as part of the price of entry would be attracting negative attention…

Yeah, "The Manetron" is AU and newer. "Super Manetron" is older and is IAA.
Also, since the serial numbers of the machines sampled, between the two apps, are different, they should sound slightly unique from each other (and from other mellotron apps, obv).

    Mellotron! Gotta catch 'em all!

  • @Poppadocrock said:
@satchnut i totally understand where you’re coming from, but to be fair the people who purchased were able to use it the whole time, plus it wasn’t that much money, and the company could have changed, or evolved in some aspect of their thinking, thus changing their pricing strategy. I will say… if I would have just bought the AU unlock, then it went free, it would sting a little. Lol. In this case, if that did happen to me I’d still feel like I got my moneys worth, I think.

I know, Poppa. Dammit I know!
    lol

  • Just bought The Manetron and the Solina, they sound great! They are AUv3, it’s definitely a good deal if you like those instruments.

I’m a big Mellotron fan. How does it sound compared to other iOS offerings? I have Sampletron and and Mellowsound but have only heard great things about Manetron.

I don’t have any of those, so I’m not sure. The developer did some demos you might want to watch to compare them, this one for example (and more on his YT channel)

Man I've got bad news for you... 🙂 Seriously though, I know it's not helping but it's likely true for every single thing that you ever bought in your life that someone somewhere at some point bought it cheaper.

I saw those! Ended up getting it. For $.99 why not. It sounds good! But I can’t figure out how to get back to the main screen once you select the tape reel view.

  • @HotStrange it’s just a tap on the tape reel to go back. I hope you like it too :)

Eh, I figure it goes around and comes around. If you've been following this thread for any amount of time, you've gotten some great deals on some awesome apps, when others missed out and paid full price. I think I paid full price for Koala and IAPs, but on the other hand I caught the narrow window when the Moog apps were free, so I'm still way ahead all things considered

@AtticusL thats exactly how I like to measure it. I’ve found it’s one of the more optimistic and accurate viewpoints when weighing cost/value for software in general. How much time spent using it Vs what other entertainment/etc might cost. A movie, drink, popcorn, easy $20 a head, coffee and a donut $10, a concert/sports event $a shish load, so if I have fun using something for a few hours, and it was $5, I usually feel like I at least got my moneys worth.
