Sexy is really the word. Most handsome UI I've seen in ages.

  • Oh yeah this is pretty cool!

  • how much is this? looks cool

When I first saw this thread, I saw the thread as "Massive stroke update: I'm good now, thanks for your support".

Yeah - I should really rename it...

Looks like it’s available for Desktop now. <3

The desktop version's been around for a while now and gets exactly the same updates as the ipad one.

  • According to the Stokes Dischord iOS update is in review so hopefully next week.

  • @knewspeak or anyone else who wants it on both platforms - make sure you contact John directly via his website if wanting the cross platform bundle

Thanks Gav, I’ve got the cross-platform bundle, all versions are excellent apps, especially given John’s hard work improving them. <3

  • The morphing feature is brilliant. The ability to save partial morphs, wow. I have a few questions:

    1) Why don’t the Shares sliders in the lower right change when I morph between patterns?

While I was prototyping I found I prefer these to be seperated from the morphing. I find I naturally keep an eye/ear on note density and don't want some other pattern to take that control away from me - it keeps things sounding consistent.

They're also quite fun to use while you're morphing - you can try having one hand on the morphing crossfader and one hand on the shares sliders - as you transition into the next pattern, pull down the shares sliders to 25ish% - you get this effect of all the sounds shifting and space opening up. Obviously the next thing you do is slam the sliders up to 100% for a dramatic drop into your new pattern! I should have probably done this in the video :)

They're also quite fun to use while you're morphing - (assuming you have at least four fingers on one hand) you can try having one hand on the morphing crossfader and one hand on the shares sliders - as you transition into the next pattern, pull down the shares sliders to 25ish% - you get this effect of all the sounds shifting and space opening up. Thanks, you’ve clearly put some thought into it and made a well-considered decision. I cannot claim to have a better solution.

My other lingering question is about how to save patterns in the sequencer page. I never mastered that in the previous version, and now I have the new P pattern to learn too. I will have to study the manual and videos some more. Most likely I am an idiot and overlooking a simple action.

  • This headline is so triggering geez

    Just use the Export option.

No, I’m asking how to save the current patch as a pattern. Can you overwrite the existing pattern?

  • @congburn

In the performance page, why are some of the on-off buttons orange and the others yellow?

When you have Pattern A-E selected all of your changes are automatically saved into that pattern.

You can clear a pattern by holding down the pattern button from the sequencer or voices page.

With the new performance page you can change the positions of the patterns by dragging and dropping the drawings.

Hope this answers your question - I'm not really sure what you meant by the patch as it's not really a word I use in strokes

This is to visually seperate the grid / logic channels.

The flashing note indicators also give you a clue to the sequencing mode. Grid channels in step mode will flash white.

The yellow buttons are the step sequencers and the orange ones are the logic lanes. I think they are just matching the colours used on the main page

Many thanks. I’m sure I will grok it in no time. May I request that panning be exposed for modulation?

A solo button per voice on the performance page would also be very useful.

  • Would you recommend this as a drum machine inside Drambo? I need someting with built in sequencer. Does it have "next sample" button like in beathawk and sitala?

Imo as much a so love Strokes it may be a bit too complex to use as just a drum machine. Unless you reeeally wanna take the time to learn it. Once you do, it excels as a sequencer, groovebox, drum machine, etc. But there are better options I’d you’re only wanting a drum machine. (No shade against Strokes I think it’s one of the best apps on the entire App Store).

It would work, but why not just use Drambo's sequencer? I believe you could also send midi from Strokes to Drambo, although I've never tried that yet.

  • Thank you. Well because I need to put drums on a single channel, that means you must use piano roll which kind of sucks.

You could host drambo within drambo if you want, the nested one being your drum machine.

I love Strokes but also second the feedback here. I'd go with digistix 2 for simple drum machine with integrated sequencer

btw, did you figure out how to midi map Drambo inside Drambo to an external controller?
