Yes.
Cool, thanks.
I haven't really used limiters before. If I stick this on a channel, as it is, will it function as a limiter immediately? Or do I need to tweak stuff? Again, apologies for my ignorance
This looks like spam, have flagged it, probably best not to click on the link anyone
As Gavinski suggested don't click on the link. I clicked on it by mistake and nothing bad happened but i don't trust the site
I was halfway though working on a mixer page before you all asked me to add multi outputs... make up your mind audiobus forum !
(I'm joking of course, these all excellent suggestions that I'd like to add one day)
There's an updated manual in the works, a friend of mine writes the manuals for Strokes now.
A few people noticed there was a big leap in manual quality from v3.9->v3.10 thanks to his amazing work.
I'm leaving his name out of this for privacy but if any devs are reading this and would like help with their manual, DM me and I'll put you in touch - the guy is a LEGEND
There's a section in the latest video about this, I've timed it here (I can't time it but seek to 19:10) ->
Here's another explanation :
Root Note tells Strokes the pitch of the sample you loaded in.
So if you load a piano sample recorded at C3, set the Root Note to C3 for that sampler.
The NOTE section on the left of that is a pitch offset that is relative to the value you set the for Root Note.
Take a close look at this:
Root Note C3 + Note Select C2 = Your sample plays back one octave lower
Root Note C3 + Note Select C3 = Your sample plays back at the original pitch
Root Note C3 + Note Select C4 = Your sample plays back one octave higher
Root Note C2 + Note Select C3 = Your sample plays back one octave higher
Root Note C3 + Note Select C3 = Your sample plays back at the original pitch
Root Note C4 + Note Select C3 = Your sample plays back one octave lower
The reason I made it this way is so that you can load in any sample recorded at any pitch, and as long as you set the Root Note correctly the sample will stay in key with the rest of your project.
Pitch Modulation is then added on top of this (from the sequencer), then the octave buttons, then its all sent into the Pitch Quantiser.
How does this relate to the synth engines you might wonder - well the synth engines all start at C so it doesn't really matter what octave you set the root note too - HOWEVER there is a limit to the number of octaves your synths can travel.
So a quick tip, if you want your basslines to go deeper, set the Root Note on the synth engines to C2. That way when your Note Select is set to C1 you get access to an even lower octave.
If I could go back and design it again I'd have the Root Note remain as is, then Note Selects would be -36 to +36 semitones which admitedly would make way more sense.
I hesitate to give advice on limiters. I’m not qualified. Hopefully someone else will help.
@congburn
Thanks for the explanation and off course, this great app!
@congburn thank you for the thorough explanation. i’ll need a bit if experimentation to get my head around it
i think my initial problem was that i wasn’t changing the note via the pop-up keyboard, i was dragging the value beneath the Ch. # which means it didn’t stick when i changed Note numbers. so, i was misunderstanding the UI
Unless you actually are in the market for dick pills and an extended warranty for your car.
Ussually
I think I did something wrong. I clicked the link and the dick pills were just antibiotics in the shape of penile.
Has anyone gone for the cross-platform package? How did that work?
Cool. Thanks @cokomairena and @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr
Yes. I emailed him via the website and he asked me to buy it on the AppStore first and then email him proof of purchase. Once I’d done that he gave me a PayPal address to send the discounted amount to. You get a link to a Google drive for desktop downloads after that 👍
@FordTimeLord 👍
Re the LFO, the Weights module can be used as a triggered envelope/shaped synced LFO kind of thing. The trick is to use the attack/release knobs at the bottom of Weights. Turn up the A and R and you’ve got basically a synced LFO. Between Weights and the Matrix module, there is plenty of modulation built in already, that is native to the app’s concept.
just noticed this update from 2 days ago, going to have a play with it now
Just got this app and am very impressed with how fun and immediate it is.
If you’re on the fence about it, I would say it definitely looks more intimidating than it actually is. And I say this as someone who normally rejects any workflow more complicated than Gadget or Koala.
Watch a couple of the youtube demos to get a clue about the different sections and you’ll be able to blunder your way to some fun-sounding accidents in no time. A deeper, more ‘intentional’ use will require some practice though.
I even managed to get it driving Gadget, one track per midi channel, and Gadget records the midi into a clip! Will have to play with that a bit more.
One thing I’ve stumbled over in standalone-mode, though (and I wonder if anyone else has come across this), the performance cross fader doesn’t always cleanly morph to a pattern. The little ‘squiggle’ in the middle doesn’t represent the same pattern squiggle I’m trying to morph to and the audio is definitely not what is in the saved pattern. I can switch between the patterns in the sequencer, but not in the perform mode.
Anyone else had this? Not sure if it’s something I’m doing incorrectly, or just a bug. If there are no suggestions here I’ll try to get into the App’s Discord to see.
I’m hoping for a sale 😔
@evenSteven Hi, yes I can confirm this behaviour - not always but sometimes, stand alone and hosted - raise it in on Discord.
For me Strokes has been wild and it's hard to keep up with it's rapid development - some things I thought were off were right and somethings were bugs - I do know that things you alter in performance temporarily override the patterns (like the shares and channel ON/OFF) so I could see why the little graphic may not return to the expected shape but you'd best ask the Dev. What I do love is being able to save all the inbetweeenies and happy accidents. Enjoy.
Agreed, that mid-morph pattern save is a great feature. Cheers, glad to see it’s not just me, I’ll sidle my way into Discord.
Another update dropped today, very cool. So weird because I had just closed Strokes after a little spontaneous session not having used it for quite a while, then I closed it and saw the update. If I thought before this the world was spinning around me, I just got it confirmed🙄😂. Anyway, loads of new candy to play with, great thanks @congburn
Nice update.
Cool! I’d almost forgotten about this app.
We posted exactly the same minute, different threads 😳 😂
Killer update. This developer has a laser focus 🎯
Yeah, it kinda comes and goes. So easy to get stuck (having fun) once you get started.
Maybe merge these various threads on Strokes @thesoundtestroom however that is done!?🙃
Wow 8 more synth engines?? It keeps getting better and better 🤩 excited to try this out.
Same. I may go a few weeks without using and then when I do I think “wow why don’t I use this way more often” lol. It’s an amazing app though.
