Thank you. Well because I need to put drums on a single channel, that means you must use piano roll which kind of sucks.

You could host drambo within drambo if you want, the nested one being your drum machine.

This is exactly how I do it.

btw, did you figure out how to midi map Drambo inside Drambo to an external controller?

    Doesn’t it just work?

Not in my case. Also, only main Drambo instance shows connected controllers in settings.

Just watch the film, Inception. Haven’t seen it in years but I’m pretty sure they keep banging on about Drambos within Drambos…

  • The performance mode is a blast to use. This is a great update.

The morphing feature alone is awesome. Combine that with the performance page and it's a huge update. I'm still missing solo and output level per voice controls though. Some more mixer functionality would really help. It's still a great app; so much fun.

Seconded on all accounts. Especially solo per level.

  • I really want this one but I’m too poor right now

  • love this app so much. just a word of warning to others: throw a limiter after it, i’ve had a few close calls with loud spikes, luckily not wearing headphones

  • user tdmusic posted a great strokes/drambo template project over at Elektronauts, with a great description of the possibilities for midi/audio blending:

Definitely. Using in standalone I have to always be careful of my levels.

Yes, I just got it. I play with electronic music a long time and what keeps me off is the time you need to spend to program all the different patterns or a complete timeline to build a whole track. I don't have the discipline to do that.

So this is the right app for me, just program some stuff and go from there. I did the tutorial and I read the manual. Only the performance page is not explained in the manual? And the first thing I did was looking for a mixer panel with volume faders but I could not find that.

I had some gas for a Digitakt or Syntakt but that is cured with this app. I have this impression they share the same layout, when it comes to the voices. I have no experience with the Electron sequencer, as I understand that one can also do some generative tricks.

@raabje the manual is for v3.10, the performance page is new in v3.12

He has a YouTube video explaining the performance page. I agree that more mixing control is needed. The Shares module covers some of that function, but it lacks control over volume levels.

Is this a bug or am i misunderstanding something?

I am using Note 1 (far left column)
i have assigned Ch 3 a root note of C1
I select Note 2 to add some tonal variation
i change the root note of Ch 3 to A3
i go back to Note 1
Ch 3 root note returns to C1
I then select Note 2 again.....but the root note remains C1 when I expected it to now be A3

i‘m sure this used to work differently but now i’m second guessing myself, can someone pls enlighten me?

I wish I knew. The notes functions still confuse me too.

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr i know right? i took my post down as i realised i was confusing terms, „root note“ as a term is more specific to the instrument settings, and i noticed Note 1 was actually returning Ch 3 to D1 not C1 (couldn’t see the small font, got caught in a downpour on way to studio and have dirty glasses!)

so i am back to square one and checking the Conga Burn vids for info on the mysterious Note feature :D

    That was a cheap cure!

I would really like to get this one, looks fun. But I know it also might be that I only use it a couple times and then get over it, so I can't justify buying it.

    @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr , @drewinnit thanks! I will take a look at Youtube.

And @cokomairena , yes that was a quick fix, haha. I would love to have some Elektron hands on experience but I don't need to own such a ($$$) box. I think the Syntakt has "machines" as voices, and Strokes has these pre-set oscillators, or you can choose samples. I would love to hear a comparison from someone who owns this app and an Elektron box.

The beauty of Strokes for me (in the short time I have used it) is the way you play with a pattern (A), and freeze it at some point, and go further with a clone of that pattern (B), and so on and on. That is really a quick way of creating a few patterns. And with the performance screen you can morph between patterns. So instantly you have some nice stuff going. That is worth the price, for me.

  • This thing is wicked cool!

I’ve found that taking advantage of the multi-out audio channels in a host such as AUM or Drambo adds that layer of mixing control. Also adds the ability to add individual effects to those channels.

Thanks, I will try that too, I only used it in stand alone mode.

Sure, but then you have to switch away from all the fun on the performance page. I want it all, man!

If using AUM, there is one built in.

Barricade is far and away my favorite and most used limited. It just works. True built in limiter in AUM is not bad at all though.

FAC Maxima, Amazing Noises, and AU3FX Push are also great and a bit cheaper than Barricade.

Sorry, dumb question, but do you mean the one in “dynamics” called “peak limiter “?

  • Strokes is an amazing. That being said I want to put my 2 cents on what could make the app better.
    1.- A limiter
2.- A Channel mixer with panning options
3.- Parameters of the performance slider, Channel mixer and panning exposed
    4.- An LFO

Already an amazing app and I am enjoying it a lot

  • how many steps
can you have. is it limited to 16 or will it go higher?

32 is the max you can get

Good suggestions. I’ve sent Rozeta lfo into it to pan the voices.
