Sorry to hear that @brambos and others. Went through a similar experience recently. The tech world and things in general are a bit mixed up right now.

The tech world is a bear-pit at the best of times, particularly for designers. After re-designing a well-known tech companies website, and making them an extra half billion in 12 months in the process, they made me and my team redundant. ‘Well, you’ve done it now…’. Next company - raised their profile to global status so they could sell it out to the big guys - laid off. ‘Thanks, bye’.

I’ve been self-employed ever since - the money’s rubbish, but at least I can’t sack myself.

Looking forward to the release - my sister’s funeral the day before, so it’ll provide a welcome distraction.

As bad as the tech world is right now, call centers are even more difficult to make a living if you live in the states. I’ve done that line of work since 2006 and my position got outsourced/eliminated while I was on medical leave. Took me a year and 2 months to find a job I had for a month and a week, in the fast food industry which I’ve never done before and am not really cut out for. I’m going to be 45 in a few months , survived two full strokes and have had numerous mini strokes/TIAs with a wife on disability and two kids (one of whom is our 1 year old son who was born at 7 months ). To top it all off, the place we’re staying at got sold and tomorrow we get to find out when we have to leave. No income is going to make it very difficult to find a new place, esp with two prior evictions on our record.

All of this is to say…I haven’t been hear that long but this community is one of the few bright spots I have (besides my family and band) in an otherwise awful existence, and the fact that many devs and YouTubers I hold in high esteem are here, well, shit, that blows my mind to kingdom come lol . I’m grateful to you all, just for being here, more than my neurodivergent ass can explain

I had to stop working few years ago , I was loving to be a dev at high level , after a stroke and because of that I have epilepsy. I never recover from Health point of view really , but music help me a lot. Fortunately I have each month enough income to have a decent living but prices are so hight now for food, energy here in Europe that for the first time in my life I think about budget.

I still got my IPad Air 2 working fine, during COVID I sold a part of my collection of stamps so I could afford to buy a new IPad Air 4 eme gen ios 16 , my first IPhone ( iPhone SE) and my first MacBook ( a MacBook Air M1 only to run Logic Pro X ) . I was a window , Android dev all my working life si I discover late Apple world.

Music is a hobby only and hopefully iOS music can be done with a low expenses.

I like to travel but airline tickets and hotels become so expensive that I haven’t the same freedom than before.

I hope that all you will find a job, make a decent living and be happy with your family.

Who votes for a price rise of $5 on the intended price of Hilda? I'll also forsake a free code in the spirit of comradeship. 🙏

Ha, thanks, but no need for that. It's one of the risks one accepts when joining a startup/scaleup. It's just a massive bummer :#

But I try to see the upside: I'm not wasting my time, and the creative outlet of making this app has been very therapeutical for me to get over the initial shock.

Really sorry to hear it, on the other hand, I am very grateful that we can benefit from your therapy!

sounds fantastic.. i just hope it will be proper standard synth (probably west coast style which is great) and not some weirdness made in cooperation with Hainbach, those “hainbach- influenced” plugins are really the only ones from Bram collection which are going compˇwtel out of my interest,..

I kinda know what you mean. I love Bram Bos apps and I love Hainbach but I didn't bother with Fluss and never got to grips with Gauss. I fully admit that this is my problem, not the apps in question.
My heart tells me to buy the more experimental stuff like Esoteric Synth, iVCS3, ID700, Fundamental, Virtual ANS3 etc... My brain just says no!
Hoping this is not too taxing and is usable in a conventional synth way.

I prefer unconventional but I’ll be buying either way as I’m sure it’ll be great. We already have so many “normal” synths on iOS, so I get way more excited about the weird stuff.

I myself really enjoy noisy and cacophonous instruments, but wouldn't have thought to include id700 among them. I have to spend more time with it, but out of the box with included presets I remember it being pretty musical. No doubt you can get weird with it though.

It can definitely get weird. To me, a decent amount of the presets are more on the experimental side, but just a bit of tweaking can really get you out into the weeds. It’s one of my favorite synth apps for sure.

  • @Gavinski thank you for the good vibes/ well wishes! And man Grand Finale 2 has been a huge blessing

@BerlinFx i definitely understand that . For me, it’s kind of a necessity cause honestly…I’m not good at much else . It’s my therapy too and working on music is quite possibly the only time I feel like I have value rather than feel like a burden. We do release our stuff on streaming and such but make no bones about it…there’s no attempt to change our sound in an attempt to “break through”, we don’t do ads, and there’s no commercialism at all …couldn’t be , as a majority of my lyrics are sarcastic and/or tongue in cheek. We just release a lot of music (one album a month on bandcamp , one single or album every 45 days on streaming ) because, well…we record a lot of music. Never thought anyone would buy or stream our music ; this was a hobby for 20 years and was only uploaded cause if something were to happen to me I’d want to leave something as a legacy …I never imagined in a million years we’d have any kind of fan base . Granted it’s a small one , but the fact there are some complete strangers that dig what we do even the tiniest bit, well, that’s part of what gets me through hard times like right now. I literally write and record several songs a week , and have written & recorded a few thousand originals since 2001 (along with several cover albums ). I hear music in my head almost 24/7 , ever since I was a small child. I literally can’t stop writing because honestly I have a strong feeling that if the music were to ever go away, I might too, and that’s not exactly a good outcome.

@Hotstrange where’s your music uploaded at?

Hilda is pretty much the result of me doing something productive and fun while hunting for a new job B)

Damn. Sorry to hear that, Bram. Hope you find something soon, and in the meantime I hope Hilda is wildly successful.

Best of luck to you. I 'might' have to get a full-time or part-time job soon myself to cover the outrageous costs here in CA due to inflation and rising crime, but have you done a job search on https://www.indeed.com? I'm seeing quite a few well paying jobs on there for any kind of position imaginable. There is still (believe it or not) a record high shortage of workers in the US and the average salaries listed are (to me) eye-poppingly high.

Yup…been using indeed for quite a while during my year + unemployment before this latest one; did applications for about 8-10 hours a day and literally had two interviews in that entire year. I have limited experience besides the 16 years of call center experience and nobody wants to hire me in that field apparently, and I’m not getting any luck with anything else

Whet will be the intro price, with so many great synth released at the same time no many budget left for may. I am more focus on budget for holidays

No price has been announced yet but Brams apps are always reasonably priced. Anything in the $10 range will be more than worth it and then some.

That’s good news..I just lost my job today so funds will be extremely tight

Best of luck to you. I 'might' have to get a full-time or part-time job soon myself to cover the outrageous costs here in CA due to inflation and rising crime, but have you done a job search on https://www.indeed.com? I'm seeing quite a few well paying jobs on there for any kind of position imaginable. There is still (believe it or not) a record high shortage of workers in the US and the average salaries listed are (to me) eye-poppingly high.

Beware the fake job ad so as to get your resume on their database scam.

Job Agencies have been pulling this trick since forever 😠😠😠

If you had to describe Hilda with 1 or 2 sentences, what would it be (like on the AppStore presentation)?

Based on its signal flow I think it will be not very far from Ripplemaker (west coast cross), with a healthy touch of weird / experimental.
Can be tamed easily if that’s your thing and just want to play it conventionally, or can go wild... and everything in between.

I think that’s what excites me the most… there aren’t nearly enough experimental apps available for my tastes and I’ve been dying for something a bit more esoteric

Oof long Covid sounds miserable. I wish you the best 🙏 hopefully we’re making strides towards figuring out what to do about long Covid.
