  • I was messing around with what little you can tweak in the demo mode and already love it. Adding effects, attack for pads, and changing the wear on the instrument can make some crazy sounds.

I had to convert the audio sample to MP3 using “TW Recorder” after paying for the audio converter upgrade for $4. I wonder if PianoTeq offered me the option to export as MP3?
    I should check.

Why didn’t you use the free online file converter?

So am I right in thinking you can’t jump from free straight to Standard?

Any version can be bought directly when purchase is made from Modartt website. That's what I did and I am assuming that they get more money that way (no App store fee). Upgrades and instruments pack are also there.

The serial number works on all platforms.

Thanks for the tip on the archiving, I had missed that.

    You're welcome

Thanks! So just go on their website to purchase Standard, then choose the 3 packs? And I’m assuming they give you a serial number to enter into the app?

Once you have bought on their site and chosen your instruments, just press restore on the ios app

Easy peasy! Thanks 🙏 still gonna be another month or 2 before I buy but the more I play with the demos, the more excited I get. It’s really phenomenal.

I Googled for options and one of those sites was proposed… I tend to be skeptical of free online services as a rule. I also assumed it would be pretty slow so when the pop-up for payment showed up I just decided I’d like to have a good tool. TW Recorder has a lot of benefits as an audio editor. The details escape me but check it out.

It is incredible. I will not touch another of my ios sampled pianos after this. Pure Piano etc is likely never going to be used again. Not to mention some others... Don't want to conjure up the ripper!

I really love the harpsichords too. The ones that come free with the Kivir pack you get for signing up for Stage are already great. The Ruckers harpsichord, a paid pack, is another beast entirely. Such an incredibly full sound. One of the other historical instrument packs has two beautiful harpsichords, forget the name but everything is available to try in the demo.

I'm by now a huge pianoteq fanboi, despite being a guitarist rather than a pianist. I love any kinds of plucked or struck sounds. With pianoteq standard, you can also manipulate the hell out of these sounds. Highly recommended, despite the desktop pricing, for those who like pianos, or any kind of pitched ideophone sounds. Electric pianos, harps, steel drums etc, all very beautifully rendered and highly tweakable

I’m already becoming a massive fan as well. Even in the demo version I’ve been able to mangle things and conjure up some cool sounds. Wish I could afford to be able to unlock every instrument but it’s just not in the cards right now. I’m just a sucker for manipulating acoustic instruments.

Right now I’m thinking Steinway D, Tines, and Hohner, but that could change. After playing the demos, I agree, it’s hard to go back to anything else. I’ll still keep apps like PSP because of everything else they offer. But for pianos and e-pianos, there’s no comparison. Any packs you’d recommend me trying out more?

  • Can Demo create Layers and Morphs?

The Felts are great Presets… almost every Model gets one. The U4 Felts are worth checking out for percussive patterns. But Layering and Morphing Felts is my current experiment. There’s a Preset of a Felt experiment at FXP. Dowkoand it and report on the sound. Having Presets around might save precious Demo minutes of recording time.

    Audiolayer is useful for archiving.

Cool. Try the Preset imports… does that work for Demo to start a session faster with a new sound option?

I loaded "Feel the Felt" that morphs Petrof/U4/HB Steinway. If you have the .fxp file on your computer you can load it directly and you don't have to set up anything on the morphing page. If the morphing is the only alteration from the underlying base presets in "Feel the Felt" then it probably saves only a few seconds. If so, I wouldn't bother to go to site to download the .fxp, just tell the person what presets are being morphed and what the mix is and they can easily set up themselves, save their new preset and have it in all future demo sessions.

Plus, loading a morphing .fxp might create some confusion for people using Stage demo. They can load the Felt .fxp, but it won't actually morph anything in Stage version, since features that aren't available in Stage won't be affected when they load a non-Stage .fxp. They need to first switch to Standard or Pro demo, then load.

  • I’m going to load my presets into my wife’s Demo iPad instance and see what comes out playing the same MIDI file.

You should be able to confirm that it makes a difference whether the preset is loaded when demo is running as Stage (default) or only after it's been switched over to demo of Standard or Pro

Yes. I can switch between Demoing levels and see what impact it has on the original Preset created in Pro. I just need for her to fall asleep and pry the iPad out of her hands… wish me luck. I’m feeding her pizza to make her drowsy after plying her with edible Pot to make sure she’s got the munchies. I can also see if Pot impacts the ability to perform experiments without impacting the quality of the results.

    Yum… pizza’s ready.

I love the 20 minute TRY Pro option for a demo user. 20 minutes is plenty of time to make a recording or lay down some loop material.

All my Presets made with Pro work as designed in Standard and Pro DEMO modes. Why NOT just demo PRO? Demo it over and over and over… until someone gifts you the cost of Stage to unlock 2 instrument and then later gifts you Standard for another instrument and the ability to edit your own Presets.

This is a very generous approach to service people without the price for entry.

I’m loving the quality of these sounds… I had a play with 3 instances driven by 3 Mozaic “Pulsar” scripts. I’m curious to see if PianoTeq in a Try condition saves that in its AUM state. If not it only takes a minute to activate a few instances and get a recording if the MIDI setup is ready to go. I need to check out the process and make a screen recording to see if anyone likes it as much as I do.

I just like acoustic sounds for my explorations of aleatoric composing. I never would have predicted I’d end up seeking chance as a defining attribute.

For some reason I’m under the impression that the standard and pro 20 minute demos are single use; they only ever run one per user or device.

I’m likely wrong about that but haven’t tried yet in case they are…if not I’ll give your experiments a whirl later 😁

Do you still have the disabled keys when you demo pro mode? Im assuming so, otherwise why would you upgrade. For some reason I haven’t demoed standard or pro yet. I think I’m gonna do that tonight. That’s gonna have to be enough for me until I get the funds this summer. Im hoping in June I can spring for it but I’m not sure. My midi controller just shit the bed so there’s yet another expense :/

  • I just tried it 10 times to test various Presets from the Modartt FXP site. Each attempt seems to be a new 20 minutes if you reboot the app. I think most can live with just using it in demo mode occasionally . At some point they might settlie on 2 instruments and go stage. From stage you can still try standard and pro as needed.

Surprisingly, you can run them as many times as you like. For the standalone app, just close and reopen the app. For the auv3 loaded in aum, just quit and restart aum. You'll see that the timer has set itself back to 20 mins

  • If I can hack some nice string and pad sounds I might live with this beast and justify going for studio. I have some ideas about using the delay to make some better pads. It seems that the attack envelope is applied to delay events so make slow attacks and fast delays might make some more organ like tones. Watch this space…

  • Ah cool @Gavinski @McD ta both 🙏

Eureka! Using excessive Delay FX creates Organ sounds. I uploaded a Pipe Organ Preset to the FXP and attached a Demo:

    https://forum.modartt.com/file/69pdfnlv

PianoTeq rendered this audio export from a loaded MIDI file. That’s NOT me playing. I wish. It’s NOT Bach either. Still, one stop production tool for a lot of solo recording projects.

  • Creates an organ sound with a noticeable delay sound, mind you. Fun to experiment though and push the app as far as you can!

  • Forget whether I mentioned this here already, but turns out they did forget to implement external ir loading in the app, and this will be added in an update.
