As I’ve mentioned before, btw, I strongly recommend standard. Most people don’t need the extra features that come with pro, but Standard is a really significant upgrade from Stage and worth having for those who like to really tweak and design sounds

    Agree 100%…

Sure, it’s expensive to go Pro on iOS compared to the desktop there 258 bucks is normal for pro music apps…

For me, Pianoteq v8 is the best app ever on mobile platform.

  • I originally planned on Stage only, just deciding on what models I wanted to pick, but Standard for only $40 more was too good to pass up. Very excited to dive into the new features!

Stage for now is enough for me

Can I purchase only single instruments without an upgrade (standard, stage) Path? Will they be fully working instruments? Or I have to have at least Standard version?

Their naming conventions are horrible. Standard is not the cheapest level, Stage is. So basically at a minimum, you need to buy Stage. Stage includes all the free instruments (the Kivir instruments as they are called, plus Bells and Carillons) plus 2 paid instruments of your choice. After that you can buy single instruments or upgrades

There is some very good stuff among the free instruments, especially, to my taste, some of the harpsichords and clavichords.

Is there a list of the free instruments somewhere?

100%. I’m glad I was able to at least afford Stage but my next “big” music purchases are a new midi controller (mine shit the bed) and Standard license for Pianoteq. I’m stoked for all that tweaking lol

It’s kind of a toss up right now. I started out looking at mostly Bluetooth keyboards as I don’t have an interface right now. But now I’m kinda considering just getting a cheaper iRig interface so I can have more options for controllers. Plus it’d be nice to being able to hook up a mic occasionally

I also have to be weary of price. We just moved into our house a month ago and have a wedding and honeymoon coming lol and space is an issue because we’re in a tiny home. So right now it’s between the new Akai MPK plus and a Korg Microkey Air37/Nanokey Studio or that CME XKey. I think the Akai is in the top spot right now though the XKey seems great.

  • I have an X-Key and I much prefer the keys over any other cheap-to-middling keyboard I have tried. They’re more responsive, and have excellent aftertouch.

The other two I have only tried out quickly in the shop, and didn’t like the feel, although of course that’s subjective.

  • Lol I just got some extra money right after the sale ended

    Damn!

  • I’m absolutely loving the demo - the piano sounds are so inspiring I’ve started to learn piano a mere 45 years after I first learned guitar! Couple of questions:

    • I have a MIDI expression pedal which is all plugged in and works with other AUv3s - how do I assign this to the sustain pedal in Pianoteq? Had a brief look through the manual but no joy.

    • If I buy the Stage license through the App Store, will that definitely give me a licence for my Windows desktop set up too? I want to get the iOS version first as I’m away from my studio now and just have my iPad set up to hand.

Still pondering my two instrument choices…erring towards the Steinway D and the Electric pianos.

    Thanks

I don't use it standalone and don't use a pedal so won't answer your first question, but would be surprised if it's not covered in the very thorough manual

I'm also not sure about question 2. Personally, if you have any doubts, you have nothing to lose by buying it for desktop first. You won't need to install the desktop app. You just have to pay. Then chose the two paid instruments you're entitled to. Now go to your ipad and press restore purchases. You will now be on stage version and have full access to the instruments you paid for

Also, once you have your license, go to the section of pianoteq website called 'free stuff'. There you can download to your ipad the files for the free instruments. Follow the instructions in the iOS pianoteq app to learn how to import these sounds. All needed info is either in the app or in the manual, to be honest.

  • @Gavinski yeah, I could buy the desktop version first…it came up priced in dollars rather than pounds which put me off, but no big deal, and at least we know it works that way round. Thank you

Sustain pedal should be working with no need to change anything. Controller pedal would be a different matter. Sustain by default is CC 64, that's going to be the same across all midi keyboards through to all plugins including Pianoteq.

Yes the license works across devices.

    Good choices.

Weird, I think it came up in euros for me.

So if you buy in the ios app it will give you a license number you can then use on desktop, I'm guessing?

Yeah, not sure a controller pedal is ideal for sustain, but thought I’d try it. Can’t work out how to map it. The Electric Pianos sound awesome and it’s not something I’ve got covered elsewhere.

Lol... By the way, one of the great things about pianoteq is that the sustain pedal is capable of continuous sustain, not just on / off values. Definitely do the calibration process inside the app with your keyboard and pedal connected to set things up just right

Go to (O)ptions, (M)idi page, where alll modulations are created or modified. You will see one already created that has 'Pedal 4 [Sustain Pedal]' as target, with 'Controller 64' as the cc that controls it. Change the 'Controller 64' setting to whatever CC your expression pedal is sending out.

  • Thanks guys - got the sustain pedal working via the on screen help in the standalone version.

It doesn't sound too realistic to me, did the two week EU-demo and any properly set up samples sound more natural. PT sounds synthetic, maybe a tad more expressive than some alternatives. But if i had spent 250 usd on pianos i probably would be blinded by my own spending. Can someone post an impressive demo that beats a random Kontakt instrument? And do you even need to tweak these kind of instruments?

I was happy with this improv I did

  • Can u do a 2 week euro demo? I thought IAPs could not be refunded? Everyone can demo all the paid packs in pianoteq anyway in normal mode with just a few keys missing. You can also demo the stage and Pro versions with a clock that can be restarted again and again

Everything you buy on the internet can be refunded. Thanks for the demo, but i am still not 300 usd-impressed by the sound. It's okay, but soo overhyped on here imho. If you check the rest of the web this isn't really a thing unless you cannot absolutely use a couple of GBs.

Sound on Sound magazine’s September 2023 has a glowing review - sure, it’s just one magazine’s opinion but as a reader of 20 years, I trust them. “ Cements Pianoteq’s position as one of the best virtual piano options out there, with staggering sound design possibilities”

Yet another stubborn reply from you with BS about apps on iOS/iPadOS…

Pianoteq v8 sounds amazing, and, if you can’t agree, check your hearing aid…

    And, it’s not 300 bucks for Pianoteq v8, it’s 129 dollar including two instrument…
