I hope if you bought it for desktop it will continue to run, without updates past 10.7.7, unless you subscribe at which point you can run on iPad

Oh yeah, I’m sure the version we’ve bought won’t stop working (though future OS compatibility could be an issue) - we just need to see if there’s a free update to make it compatible with the iOS version, or they’ll use the opportunity to whack in a V11 paid upgrade or subscription. I had to update Ableton as the Notes app wasn’t compatible with V10, though ironically I still didn’t buy the app.

I honestly don’t actually use Logic, as I much prefer Live, so I won’t be paying for an upgrade, even if I get on with the iOS version. Fingers crossed it’s a free update.

If you look at the fine print on the marketing page it says that Logic Pro for Mac version 10.7.8 is required for round-trip compatibility. Current version is 10.7.7. So expect a minor update for desktop to drop on Tuesday. Given the version number I don’t expect it to include Sample Alchemy or Beat Breaker to be included, but we’ll see!

In the past with some GarageBand features such as with remix FX, Logic was ‘compatible’ but didn’t include the full UI for a while.

It eventually appeared in full but for a while IIRC it was even hidden in the plugin menu in Logic and had not graphical UI, just arcAne sliders.

They may do that with 10.7.8; include the minimum to get the new features such as Beat Breaker them to play back but not necessarily make it possible to create with them in the Mac version.

Well for roundtrip compatibility I would imagine that the desktop version would have to include Sample Alchemy or Beat Breaker.

I paid for mine. Doubt they would ask for subscriptions. Maybe to new users but existing users would not pay.

Yes but not necessarily in full (as per my post above, they've done this before by doing the bare minimum to get the GB only feature to play back without being able to actually use it to create in Logic on the Mac).

    Eventually? Definitely. :)

And I would love to see the faces of everyone who complained about subs if it turns out that the iPad version is free for existing Logic Pro users...

So to get the 'no subscription version' you'd have to buy the Mac version for $199...
...If you don't have a Mac version yet, you can subscribe to the app for $4.99 until you get the Mac version :sunglasses:

We'll see what happens in a few days time...

I’d rather it didn’t, as it’d be nice to have the option to do more editing in Logic on the desktop, but no biggie if it does - I’ll just export audio stems and finish off in Live.

For iOS there’s a limit to how much space I can make available for it anyway - I’m hoping the ‘core’ install won’t be over 5gb, otherwise I’ll have to skip it.

I dont need to wait 2 days to know that isnt going to happen. They already announced the pricing, there isnt going to be a no-subscription version at this time, ownership of desktop Logic isnt going to make any difference.

That line has been removed from the Apple pages...
...so we could be looking at Logic 11 :sunglasses:

I'm interested in seeing what will happen with the Mac version of Logic, will get at a 'universal sub' for both platforms or will existing Logic users get the iPad version for free?

Now that you say that so am I

    Heya all,
it’s my first post here, yeah, I’m lurking for too long already… ;)

Pressure for iOS Logic is building up for me too, constantly trying to remind myself that is not a big deal. I already have Logic on MacBook as a main DAW, it’s good, it’s reliable but not perfect and in this form will not replace my existing iOS workflow. But nooo, my excitement growing from day to day, I can’t help myself. That much hype almost always result in disappointment, please not this time.

    Welcome to the forum!
If Logic won’t be as exciting in the end you will now have a profile to join in the big whining ceremony 😄

It is like a new year festival, guys from Sydney should be the first to subscribe ?

The launch date is the 24th in Australia…

  • Let’s be honest people. It’s gonna take about 12 hours on the 23rd for y’all to turn these Logic Pro threads from “OMG OMG OMG!” To “jfc jfc jfc….”

    Nay, foul heathen!

Verily I say unto you, before 12 hours hath passed after the Blessed Launch, behold the Rapture shall come and those who have believed shall be caught up into heaven where for eternity they shall enjoy their blessed headphone jacks. There will be no more tears, neither subscriptions, and battery death shall be no more.

Only they who have not believed will remain. These must endure the great tribulation without the Anointed App. So great shall be their torment that they will cry out for death. But they shall find it not.

I can’t see that happening, but I could imagine some kind of “extras” for Logic Pro macOS users with the new update (something beyond mere iOS + macOS compatibility).

Drambo and Loopy Pro makes me wonder if I will even use Logic when it comes out.

I know I won't. If I ever felt the need for Logic Pro I'd use it on desktop. Using it on an iPad has no appeal to me at all.

Samesies. Maybe if I used it more regularly on the desktop and if I only used stock plugins and wanted a way to edit on the go and I already owned a spendy iPad... maybe.

    For now, jQuery('.ItemDiscussion:contains("Logic")').hide();

  • I did something stupid and updated some plugins on the computer, and logic was a crash fest again yesterday while I was mixing for someone. I rolled back my au folder to Thursday, before I did the updates, and then crashing seems to have stopped.

Why am I saying this? I love Logic but with 3rd party stuff and silicon processors, it can also be frustrating. I think I’m leaving my computer exactly at the point it is now, with no more updates and continuing to run logic in Rosetta. I am interested to see how logic will fare on iOS in that regard by reading threads on here.

My m1 mbp has been an amazing computer for everything BUT music, where it has been a touchy little beast.

one possible difference is that AUv3 on iPadOS run in their own process, so in theory would be less likely to crash Logic all together. they would crash their own process (and be directly implicated)

If that was the case I think Apple would have said so already. It would be a good PR point for them.

If it releases at 10am PST on 23rd May then that'll be 5am on 24th May in New Zealand.
The whole of the 23rd will be BLP (Before Logic Pro) here in NZ, and the 24th will be day 0.
We're used to getting things before the rest of the world (like New Year), but not so in this case :-)

That’s what is said on Mac too but logic disappears with a poof when there’s an issue. Softube helped me figure out some of the issues, there were a few plugins that were causing issues, as well as something in console 1. Luckily rolling it back via Time Machine seems to have done the trick.

    That’s 15c a year

$.15 a month, or $1.50-$1.80 a year depending on if you pay annually. Still not enough to be motivating, but it is an order of magnitude better.
