  • My Push 3 standalone has arrived just started installing packs and setting up, was a pain to connect to my network initially but once connected and updated all was fine, if anyone wants to connect via Bluetooth Midi I can confirm the M-Vave MS-1 usb dongle works fine so far.

  • Congrats!! Good luck getting on with it. Hope it clicks for you :)

Thanks, I still keep forgetting about the 8 encoder’s above the screen :D they keep catching me out with menu changes, I think once that clicks I’ll be fine.

yeah, when I use it, I don't think about what it can't do. I just add tracks, start adding clips, do some basic tweaks and move forward and just keep getting the idea down. It definitely can't do lots of things that you're like "wtf, I can do this in Live" blah blah, but right now, don't worry about it :D I've got well over a hundred song starts done on it and I'll be able to grab any or all and continue working on them on desktop when I'm ready. Right now, I think of it as a hardware version of Note.

  • One thing that IS kind of strange is that tons of YouTubers are showing Live 12 Beta on the PC's, but nobody has shown anything with push 3 standalone and Live 12 Beta. That...seems a little weird. Like...maybe it won't be coming out at the same time? Dunno. Just would think they would be allowing all the "influencers" that have Live 12 Beta + Push 3 Standalone the ability to show it off.

When I get Live 12, I'll probably use my Push 3 with it in controller mode.

I can think of scenarios where I would use Live 12 and Push 3 at the same time. Live 12 for arrangement view, run the few VST and AU plugins I have... Push 3 as a Live 12 controller. In this scenario, setting Push 3 to standalone mode does not make sense to me - because in this mode Push 3 is not talking to Live 12 on the computer.

In theory i could just use my Push 3 - in standalone mode - as just another synth plugged into Live 12. Seems I'd be putting up unnecessary barriers though that don't need to be there.

Ha. I don’t have that many. I can’t help it. The colored pads do something to me 🤪

😂😂😂 fair enough. The only stopping me from acquiring more is space

  • Just updating my Push 3 SA to 1.2 anyone have any information regarding the release yet. Thanks in advance.

  • Not sure I understand your question, what release?

    Version 1.2 firmware 1.4.0

Thanks I think that covers it, but it’s not the beta it’s the full 11.3.20 release.

  • Release notes are on the Centercode forums where you downloaded the beta.

I didn’t download the beta, this is the OTA wifi update.

Just checked, this isn’t a beta, I’m not part of the beta team. Anyone else confirm this update.

  • Doh, sorry, I misread. The release notes are part of the Live release notes here:

    https://www.ableton.com/en/release-notes/live-11/

    Just scroll down some.

  • No worries and thank you @Tarekith and thank you @Pierre118.

  • So ableton was at Superbooth and their Push3 product owner was demoing the Push3 with his modular setup. The sonic state guy shot a video here, but go to about 50sec in:

He talks about where they have been which is stablization, and now will be heading into another phase which will be "adding the most requested features". Sounds like they are gonna finally start moving forward a bit.

  • This was hinted at a bit on the beta testing forums by Jesse as well. A lot of people were sort of unhappy that not much has happened with Push standalone since it was released. Jesse mentioned they have a pretty big team working on Push and that there’s some big updates coming.

Excellent news! For me, being able to route things into something besides the compressor would be nice, and for sure quality of life updates like keeping the same track active when you launch a clip on a different track, grouping, file management, midi editing a bit better.

I really wish they would add modulo on midi clips so I can do "x:y" on notes instead of just "% chance". Will be interesting if they can figure out how to effectively use transformers.

    So much stuff!

  • Agreed. The fact we still have only select on launch as the only option for clips is bad.

  • They need to improve the sampling experience on push 3. So much potential but sampling editing on push 3 doesn't seem to be a priority so far.

    let's hope.

Try this! It works very well, and you can p-lock it to steps in the Push’s sequencer.

  • Jesse just posted this on the beta forums:

    Hi everyone,
I am reminded why it is not always a good idea for me to comment in here, as my words can be perceived in many ways and I can cause more confusion. I’ve got a pretty hectic schedule of meetings and travel and family, so I don’t find time to check in here as much as you all deserve.

I hear the criticisms loud and clear and I can assure you much of this is being addressed (balanced with other issues that we find in other places and in user testing). We are committed as a company to long term improvement of Push.

I’m also frustrated with the slowness of things we have already fixed taking a long time to get to you. I am working on improving this. For example, the latest beta has very little for Push. The reason for this is that we are trying to get to an extremely stable point release for Live 12.0.5, so we don’t include new features and bugs that might introduce risk.

Once 12.0.5 is out, you should expect the next beta to begin introducing much longer release notes with fixes and improvements.

I will give you a window into the main themes we are working on, with the caveat that things change, there are no guarantees, and leaving this open to interpretation is a little risky. What you might read into this might set your expectations too high (or too low, in some cases).

But I offer it to you to know that we are committed to improving Push in a variety of ways.

Create Songs from Scratch - Use Push’s fast workflows to create inspiring sketches and turn them into refined songs. Work with your hands and away from the computer to find your focus and flow.
Perform Fluidly - Perform your music instinctually and fluidly in ways that suit your personal style and intent.
Push is Your Standalone Hub - Push is the physical centerpiece of your setup. Connect your instruments, controllers, and services with high quality results.
Create Continuously Between Instruments - Seamlessly move your music making material between Push and your other instruments. Don’t lose time or focus, continue your music making in the context that suits your needs in the moment.
Fit to your needs - Modify aspects of Push to create an experience that fits your needs and preferences.
Enabled through Learning - Push helps you learn the basics quickly, and provides resources on and off the instrument to develop your music making practice over time.
Performant and Robust - Push is your musical companion - a trusted piece of technology. It is technically performant and blurs the line between instrument and your other electronic devices.
Make Expressive Music - Create expressive melodies and rhythms with Push’s unique interface and approach to music creation.
Design Personal Sounds - Create any sound you can imagine. Start with one of the diverse sounds from Push’s extensive library, or craft your own from scratch.
Sample the World - Push has the connectivity and workflows to sample your world. Transform your samples into your own personal sound.
Upgradable and Configurable - Push’s components are uniquely modular. Upgrade and change Push as technology or your needs change.
Push Improves Over Time - Push becomes richer and more valuable over time as new experiences are added, performance is improved, and stability is maintained.

I would add that while I totally hear the sentiment in this thread, there are many, many Pushes sold, and many people who are ecstatic about it. The challenge is in how different people want to use it. I was also surprised to read about all the troubles with external devices and MIDI, as my studio is filled with synthesizers, it’s a core of my workflow, and I don’t experience the issues in this thread. That said, I believe we have found the issue that is plaguing some of you. It was very difficult to reproduce for us.

Hoping I can make you all happier sooner that later, and be in here a bit more often.
    Jesse

extremely vague themes, actually this worries me somewhat that the themes are so vague.

hopefully just the simple updates come like -

having the full GUI for M4L devices.
improving the sampling editing, add GUI to sampler.
midi/cv/audio timing compensation editable via push 3

    these type of things .....

    .

  • For years now Ableton has refrained from giving too detailed info about what is coming for Live and their hardware. They used to be more open about this sort of thing on their forums, but when deadlines slipped or something they hinted was coming couldn't be implemented, people were assholes to them. So they stopped doing that.

I'm actually surprised we got even this much from Jesse, even though it largely doesn't really tell us anything anyway.
