  • I connect mine through one of those Behringer UMC1820 ADAT interfaces, actually the iPad is necessary to map the analogue inputs to the digital outputs that appear in the push…

As far as I know you still can’t connect directly to the USB MIDI port, but I’ve never tried directly connecting it to the iPad via the computer interface that you use to connect to your main Ableton machine… might work, but then again I’m not sure how you’d control any of the Ableton stuff as I’m not sure in standalone mode it would just work as an auto in/out and in connected mode nothing happens until the push detects Ableton running on the computer. Might be wrong on that though, I’m not that keen to upset my delicately just about hanging together setup to try either😅

Quick question for any Push 3 experts - what’s the iPad to Push connectivity like?

I’m possibly ordering the controller version tomorrow, and it would be great to somehow integrate my iPad with it, somehow. I see it’s got a built-in audio interface, so I guess there’s an option to sample stuff in, but is there any direct USB MIDI in or out, to/from the iPad, or USB audio?

I’m currently connecting my iPad to the desktop version via IDAM, so I could still do that (assuming you can connect a Push and iPad as devices at the same time) for audio and MIDI, just wondering if the Push opens up any additional options.

Push is for live. Unless you get the $2k standalone version you better have live or you’ll be very disappointed

Maybe the Move is what you want?

No worries, thanks for the reply!

I’ve got the V11 suite, I’ve been using Live for years but never had a controller. Looking to upgrade to V12 Suite tomorrow.

It’s not essential, but would just be nice to be able to integrate the iPad into the Push setup. I currently record audio into Live via IDAM, and occasionally use iOS MIDI sequencers via the same connection to trigger Live instruments on the desktop.

The Move looks great, but for a couple of hundred quid more I can get the Push 3.

Currently Ableton doesn't allow Push or Move to work well with iPad as a controller. there is some midi functionality in the user mode of Push but it doesn't work well on IOS. maybe some bright spark can create a ios app for it if it even makes sense that is.

Ah well, never mind, at least I can still connect to the desktop via IDAM. Shame the built-in audio interface doesn’t provide a bit of extra connectivity, similar to third-party loopback enabled devices - would have been nice to route audio out from the Push, through AUM + iOS fx, and then back into Push for recording.

audio and push 3 standalone you can probably do that; you'll have to check as i only have a Push 3 controller. i was referring to midi.

I’m only going for the controller. No worries.

Just purchased the V12 Suite upgrade from V11 Suite. After watching through hours of Push 3 videos, decided to pass this time. Impressive device, but I think it’d be overkill for my needs. I think a laptop screen + trackpad/Launchkey mk4 controller will suit my style of working better, and I’m more comfortable working in the arrangement view. Plus the £624 saved can go towards a new laptop.

Really looking forward now to diving into the new V12 features!
