No multi-out support for hosted auv3s it seems

After some reading here and on Steinberg’s Cubasis forum (!)… here’s how to proceed for multi-out in Logic.

    1. Load the multi-out version of the AU on a track (I used FAC Drumkit), and assign the output busses (called EXT1, etc in FAC Drumkit).

    2. Add as many sends as you want to use multi-outs to that track (these will now appear in the mixer as numbered aux channels, they’re not immediately visible on the track view but - just as the output track that doesn’t show by default - you can make them show up as tracks just as the output track).

note: after adding the first send use the ‘back’ icon on the plugin view header, then you will be able to add the next send (after adding the first send you will at first only see an option to add an audio effect..).

    1. Go to the mixer view. The aux (send) tracks will each show a bus as their input. Click on such a bus icon. In the menu that appears there will be an option (the third) with the name of the track where you loaded your multi-out AU. Click on that and choose your desired output for that aux/send.

    2. Repeat.

Thanks. I tried this with Drum Computer but can’t get it to work so far. When I go to the mixer to set the input for the Aux tracks, I’m not seeing that 3rd option with the name of the track drum computer is on. As far as I can tell there isn’t a choice between DC stereo and multi-out. There’s just a single AU to choose from and you configure whether it’s stereo or multi out in the settings of the app.

Drum Computer Is not AUv3 , I am right ?

It’s an audio unit. I can definitely use it as a plugin inside Logic. Just can’t seem to get it set up as a multi-out, which I can do in Cubasis pretty easily.

Downloaded drumcomputer and at first I had the same as you: the third option did not appear.
Then I quit Logic and reloaded the project: option appears (10 out channels).

You can easily convert a piano-roll track to step-sequencer track and back...

Maybe you meant using step-recording to input notes?

I want that workflow from that attached vidio link…

In Piano Roll mode I want to record single notes, chords etc, step by step, not play this in real time recording mode…

Brilliant, thank you @janpieter ! What a weird way to have to get it to show up. But it totally worked! :)

Yes, one of my favorites! So it seems like AUv3 multi-out is supported. It’s just not very intuitive at all to get it set up and the procedure may vary a bit from app to app.

If you did it once: save it as a patch?

Yeah, Atom 2 doesn’t work in Logic Pro for iPad…
That sad in this it’s that @blueveek the developer has been away from this community (and probably iOS/iPadOS as general) since early 2022, so this incredible app may never be updated any more…

It’s not immediately obvious to me how I’d do that outside of just using saving that Project and duplicating it to use it as a template of sorts. I’m not really seeing any options to save at a lower level than that. Entirely possible I’m missing something though. I’m still in the “orientation” phase.

I mostly suggested this based on hearsay. :)

Haha, fair enough. Really it’s really not that difficult to configure it once you know how to do it. But I would have prob never figured that out on my own.

A big miss in Logic IPad is to have a choice of templates and templates creation. Hope they will work on that to make it more user friendly.

Any hack is silly as you should not have to hack but tell Apple you need it . We are not here to do what dev don’t do . Think that it is so obvious missing that they know about it and will update that point otr they are mediocre now at the iOS music dept at Apple.

Please Steve comeback to kick their ass as you did with all in Apple. Tim Cook is not a genius at all, we know that.

  • A Midi effect, and an expression controller, cannot run simultaneously. When both are engaged, I lose all audio. I don’t know if this is a lack of feature, or a bug, but every other iOS DAW handles both at once without a problem.

  • Velocity automation. Can someone tell me where it is?

True, having to do too many “workarounds” is what makes me drift in and out of iOS as a music platform. I think Apple has a huge incentive to keep developing this though. Not so much the $5 monthly subscription, although that’s not going to be nothing. But this already has me asking myself questions like:

    • Should I upgrade my iPad to get more processing power?
    • Should I get a Mac so that I can make Logic my main DAW and easily go back/forth between mobile and desktop versions?

So far the answer is no for me, but that could change in the future if they listen to their users and keep developing it.

I got Logic on Mac but it is not to send on the Mac what I do in Logic Mac and actually it is not really now ready for that. Apple Marketing state it is , pro explain on pro forum why it is not possible like a dream yet.

I will not change my IPad Air4 for a pro IPad my answer is no new IPad.

IMine if 2020 and I could wait 2025 or 2026 particularly if I don’t still have 1 jack audio and 2 USB ports in a Pro IPad so why a pro IPad if it is not pro. After all I am not a pro.

New IPad Air will be in the future nearly with the spec of pro ones and far less expensive, if Pro use M3 chip so the future IPads Air will use M2 …. This is Apple way usually.

Yes, I noticed if you 'trim' the file to convert to 4 bars or less (sometimes)... it appears... Don't know if it is a bug. But.

  • What most of the pro think about Logic IPad , interesting as this is a bit as non pro what I think too, mitigated about Logic IPad  interesting as it talk about worflow missings and why he can’t create music on an iPad with Logic iPad.

All is in the hands of Apple to heard users and please it is not time now to be hyped just because it was hype.

Logic Pro for iPad Review - is it designed to fail ?

  • Some of these 'Youtube Pro Producers' not even worthy to be called 'Producers' to be totally honest...
...they do the videos for clicks to feed their egos.

Most have a very 'fixed mindset' and are afraid of changes like the plague.

Soon there will be more Logic for iPad users than there are Desktop Logic users...
(I would not be at all surprised if the iOS GarageBand users already outnumber Desktop Logic users).

Some good points about the UI, but at 3 minutes in he has got one of his criticisms wrong: he says in the Mixer view you can't add, move, copy, or replace plugins - but you can, you just have to tap the setup icon at the top. He probably need to RTFM :)
