    2. A version of infiltrator 2, flux pro is on the road…but will it go all the way
    3. Ozone …there really isn’t anything else to me… fabfilter can get you close but…(more time eaten up here)
    4. A version of movement…yea really nothing on iOS close to this yet
    5. Trackspacer…we need one of these beautiful plugs all day
    6. Ovox? Anyone anything?
    7. Full alchemy synth…ugh wtf Apple?
    8. A version of NI PlayBox…
    9. A version of SubLab2..or very similar
    10. A great wavetable synth with user wavetable support… only thing close is synthmaster
    11. We need for Korg to make there gadgets auv3 already
    12. Reason? …not reason “bs” compact include it in PLUS…FULL REASONwith auv3 plug in ability
    13. Soothe2, oh yeaaaa I’d love to have soothe2, at least smooth operator…

    Anyone wanna add?

If you need all this above for making music, stay on the desktop, surely much cheaper over time…

You do realize such comments are just not helpful? What is this instinct some people have to try and tell others that they're wrong to see the world the way they do. It's like saying "you're doing this life wrong".
Saying "stay on the desktop" is downright rude. Like you have the ultimate opinion on what anyone else might imagine they would find useful on iOS. So many comments on this thread were a complete waste of the persons energy all in the service is proclaiming "I do iOS better than you, I do it right, and you wanting something else is wrong"
Lets all never want anything else added to iOS ever again, and actually lets go back a year, or shall we make it, two, or three, or four, before this app, or that app, existed, in the good old days of super pure IOS, the really good proper iOS,

Hole in the road???? Luxury! In my day we'd make music out of nothing more than some dry leaves and dead squirrell bones! If you need a guitar you're doing it wrong!

Gav, I think you exaggerate how bad the file system on iPadOS/iOS is - what do you want to do that you’re not allowed to?

Like, for example, be able to actually have access to preset folders for synths, make my own subfolders directly, etc. And, for example, be able to buy a Gumroad patch of presets for Tera Pro and then be able to use the share feature to share to Tera, and Tera actually appears in the menu as an option to share to (which it doesn’t for me, and I have had similar problems with other apps). So no, the Files system is really a disgrace imo

But this is developer fault, not iOS/Apple. other synths(for example Butter) allows easily create folders and unpack presets into them completely using just Files app
    ..

As i mentioned somewhere in other thread, i am actually glad that whole app filesystem is not completely free accessible for everybody - that would be huge security risk .. one of reasons why android is so much infested with malware and viruses is not secure way of handling app filesystem

Apple did this right, sandboxing is good decision, just devs needs to implement properly work with public app folder

Thing is this does work for many people with Tera Pro. I don't know why it doesn't work for me, and the dev also seems not to have a solution. I remember clearly @espiegel123 saying before that there were bugs in the Share function on iOS, hence it seems like it is actually some kind of apple problem.

+1 I am happy with the file system.

The good devs have implemented drag and drop from files and between apps.

  • Oh yeah... And the other problems with files app...it not remembering your favourites. @richardyot and others have commented on this. Another one... Apps not remembering the last location in files you opened. Many have commented on this. People coming from desktop are shocked at how bad Files is. My mind will not be swayed on this point lol.

Regarding the files system in iOS iPadOS, seems like the two sides are not contradictory and both are true. File management is not as flexible as is on the desktop - true. Most file management tasks for music making can be done on iOS iPadOS - true. No argument needed. :)
Desktop file management is best in all cases. iOS iPadOS is as good in most cases but not all.

  • Best part of this thread, Did Berlin just say that?! lol What a world !

And Yeah, I need absolutely nothing for iOS production. (That’s NOW in 2023) but until this year there was no comparison between desktop and iOS; now the gap closes (McMillan is still right about the power a desktop can do, but that’s because iPads are so new, but the m series processor allow for similar abilities now so

Be nice everyone!! To each other and yourselves , that’s all that matters in the end

ios iPadOS is definitely better in most ways since 2015 when I started. Maybe it will get to “desktop class” if more nice desktop only VSTs port over. You’re right the CPU and memory resources are there in the top level iPads. Who knows what the future holds…

  • edited July 2023

Apple’s device marketing seems to be that iPad is a MacBook with a touchscreen but a stripped down operating system.

For me, I would just buy a laptop for the price of the top line iPads. But…the VSTs are more expensive on desktop generally :|

    IOS needs:

A good drum sampler instrument with velocity zones and layers and amazing presets (BM3 is closest, but needs to be AUv3 plug not host).
A port of all Dillon Bastan M4L products, especially his latest one Divisions: https://dillonbastan.com/store/maxforlive/index.php?product=divisions
A good tracker AUv3 host or perhaps AUv3 midi plugin (maybe Sunvox already does this).

Wtf that's supposed to mean? That ALL Swedish people upset other people!? 😳 Maybe your joking but to shit on one entire nation for one person is really naive and quite rude. Had it been another nation/people (I can think of a few) the call out would have been alot harder than my nice little remark.

Back to the point of this thread: I really wish you could shift screen on iPadOS when rendering movies or sometimes downloading stuff without it getting disrupted. I don't know why this is in the first place and why it isn't like on a computer where tasks can run in the background(?) Hopefully it will come.

Can you give us the exact apps you can’t be running in the background?

I can download something big in my web browser and switch to Affinity Publisher and that download proceeds…

Isn’t this a thing up to the developers nowadays?

Until recently, there was not an Apple API for AUv3 to store presets so that they were visible regardless of host. And also, an AUv3's storage is not publicly exposed. So, if a synth can run standalone and as an AUv3, developers had to roll their own solutions if they wanted to expose the preset storage to the public.

So, developers that put in a lot of time rolling their own solutions to preset management, are not typically fast to abandon that code and implement a new preset management system....especially of they maintain backward compatibility and/or support of old OS versions.

Btw, while ButterSynth makes use of Files app, a user can't simply use Files app to arrange their presets as they'd like. It seems You still have to use Buttersynth's internal system....which is separate from the OS preset management.

That’s so funny. Me too. If I select a preset genre and build from that it sound fine, but when I try to make my own kit for my own preset grooves it doesn’t sound like a good kit. (Except for my metal kits)

I wish they would do a patch storage though, it would be great

So, if a synth can run standalone and as an AUv3, developers had to roll their own solutions if they wanted to expose the preset storage to the public.

So, developers that put in a lot of time rolling their own solutions to preset management, are not typically fast to abandon that code and implement a new preset management system....especially of they maintain backward compatibility and/or support of old OS versions.

Btw, while ButterSynth makes use of Files app, a user can't simply use Files app to arrange their presets as they'd like. It seems You still have to use Buttersynth's internal system....which is separate from the OS preset management.
