I have no app needs as I have no desire for my iPad to a portable version of the desktop. Those two worlds are firmly separate for me. I would love to see these things though:

    • User replaceable batteries.
    • Onboard micro SD card storage and more flexibility of what can be stored there.
    • Automatically re-established BLE Midi controller connections.
    • Headphone jack
    • Multiple simultaneous interface support
    • USB audio streaming between devices
    • Ability to use iDAM while an audio device is connected to the device
    • Bi-directional audio for iDAM

OK, there is one app need:

    • An AI bot that can detect when my wife is talking to me as opposed to herself, the cat, Siri, praying, the audiobook she's listening to, her stuffed animals, the plants, whatever craft or project she's working on, dictating a text, etc, and automatically route it to my earbuds so I don't have to pull them out every three minutes and ask "were you talking to me?"

Side question: Why do people put full emotion into their voices when talking to Siri, and refer to "her" in the first person? Damn it's hard to filter out when you're being talked to when even dictating text is laden with full emotional content. I mean, I can understand talking to a plant that way, but an iPad? 🤦🏻‍♂️

I was pretty much confident that no one was gonna top me over my exaggeration list, but you did it in the opposite direction. Respect! 😂

About that AI, if you upgrade it with a feature to wake me out of my deep concentration only when my wife needs to interrupt me for serious things, then I’m in.

    1. A version of melodyne studio, or something as good. (Or flexpitch)

    https://apps.apple.com/at/app/vocal-tune-studio/id1664414521

Isn’t this the subscription model one? If so I’ll wait on Flex Pitch. I already have 2 subscriptions, 1 Logic Pro app (50.00 a year) and reason 12+ (120.00 per year if I catch the sale). I can’t do an individual plug in that I might benefit from, and unlike melodyne it isn’t polyphonic. I can’t speak on quality vs quality …but I really don’t believe it’s on the level of my melodyne studio as of now. However I’m not qualified to say that is a fact as I haven’t used the iOS app. Thank you for pointing me to it, I appreciate that.

    3. Ozone …there really isn’t anything else to me… fabfilter can get you close but…(more time eaten up here)
    4. A version of movement…yea really nothing on iOS close to this yet
    5. Trackspacer…we need one of these beautiful plugs all day
    6. Ovox? Anyone anything?
    7. Full alchemy synth…ugh wtf Apple?
    8. A version of NI PlayBox…
    9. A version of SubLab2..or very similar
    10. A great wavetable synth with user wavetable support… only thing close is synthmaster
    11. We need for Korg to make there gadgets auv3 already
    12. Reason? …not reason “bs” compact include it in PLUS…FULL REASONwith auv3 plug in ability
    13. Soothe2, oh yeaaaa I’d love to have soothe2, at least smooth operator…

    Anyone wanna add?

This thread has been great. I think the dialogue has been positive even when negative, if you know what i mean. @MrSmileZ : I ended up buying Trackspacer, Movement, and SubLab XL because of this list, so thanks for that.

Question: How much better than or different from is Soothe2 compared to Smooth Operator (which I have and like a lot, but don’t absolutely love)?

    Now, my wishes for iOS:
Pretty much anything from Acustica Audio, but particularly:

    • Taupe (Tape Emulation)
    • Ruby (DW Fearn EQ)
    • White (Passive Mastering EQ)
    • Ash or Fire The Clip
      Everything from Pulsar Modular

    • They had Lunar Lander for a while

    • P11 Abyss is basically the best compressor ever
    • P42 Climax is an incredibly good line amp/saturator
Also the Sound Particles Panner suite, Brightness Panner and Energy Panner, which are remarkable tools
Last, I want Softube Modular on iPad, because I like creating on the iPad better and “engineering” better on the Mac.

    • Especially the Buchla modules

The thing that has amazed me going back to MacOS/Logic is just how much better it sounds and how much more Hi-Fi the preamps, EQs, and compressors are. Heck, even the tape emulations. On iOS, we have ReelBus, Chow, and Caelum. All good, but all lackluster compared to Taupe, Softube Tape, Kiive Tape Face, UAD Studer, and Baby Audio TAIP.

IOS music making is revolutionary. What I want is universality (that’s how I interpret @MrSmileZ wishlist) so that our choices are because of workflow, not exclusivity.

    Omg! Finally.
    I agreeeeeeeeee so much.
    With your final line especially.

To answer the smooth operator question, I am not really able to answer it. I have never used smooth operator. I tried the demo (free) of soothe2 and was sold after trying it on a few problem tracks. It’s rather great at removing harsh resonances without muffling the high end very much. I would say go download the trial version and give it a shot…then you can decide whether smooth operator does the job for you or whether it’s time to fork out more money (sucks). I can live without soothe2 because I can so some of that work with a dynamic fabfilter or toneboosters eq…it just adds extra time that soothe 2 fixes. In a world of so many great plug ins, I stay fairly minimal. I mostly use a few “tonal coloration” plugs, some stock delays, some specialized verbs, and mostly until it’s (time saving) plug ins. It’s all about time to me, never about money. We can’t get time back.

I was right, this thread is just another shopping list! ;) Don’t get me wrong, who doesn’t like shopping lists, I certainly do. ;)

    Here is mine humble list:

    1. Soundtoys - all ( EchoBoy, FilterFreak, MicroShift,…) these are really good ‘sounding’, buying these are a sound quality builder.
    2. Izotope - all ( RX, Ozone, Insight, VocalSynth, Neoverb, Exponential Audio,…)don’t do this…avoid neutron like the plague skip it, neoverb is ok at best (i find myself using free Valhalla stuff over this), vocalsynth is ok…maybe you’ll use it more than I do (surely you’ll use it 10 times). I would tell people to buy ozone advanced and insight and move on (advice only)
    3. Valhalla - all (yea these are great a lot of them are free which blows my mind)
    4. Sonible - all (dont have experience here)
    5. UVI - Falcon with everything (Falcon is great sounding)
    6. U-he - all ( All Zebras, Diva, …) (im going to say these are ok)
    7. Xfer Serum (i love serum, it’s programmability is so good…it checks every wavetable box for me)
    8. Reaper. (not my jam, but lots of folks love it)
    9. Bitwig (not my jam either, but again loads of folks love it)

I can really see this viewpoint, and idealistically it would be great…but in reality it don’t work out for my workflow.

    • User replaceable batteries.

Heck yea!!!! I’m onboard this train.

    • Onboard micro SD card storage and more flexibility of what can be stored there.

Ehhhh…not so much here…SD cards have lost so much data for me in the past I have condemned them from my life.

    • Automatically re-established BLE Midi controller connections.
    • Headphone jack

All aboard, back on the train choochoo!

    • Multiple simultaneous interface support

    This would be great!

    • USB audio streaming between devices

Usb streaming for me too please.

    • Ability to use iDAM while an audio device is connected to the device

I haven’t ran into this but it could become something I want to…haven’t used iDam yet…I dammit laughing out loud

    • Bi-directional audio for iDAM

    Again same as last post.

Lots of this surely exists in the forum.

Damn it's hard to filter out when you're being talked to when even dictating text is laden with full emotional content. I mean, I can understand talking to a plant that way, but an iPad? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Start clearing out space if you're running low...I think full Alchemy is a 14gB download with an 18gB install

I got lots of space…I’m not worried a bit

  • Out of all the stuff that didn’t make it over to Logic Pro on iPad…one thing just really irks me for some reason.
Sampler didn’t make it, a player version of it is here…but it sucks so badly I really can’t see why they included it other than round trip…. I mean volume is the only control…it doesn’t have anything…no envelopes, filters, nothing…hahaha wth apple

Surely that wouldn’t be the case if they ported to iOS. Super powerful synths like Twin3 and Buttersynth take up less than 1/10 of that space.

If it was a full port it would be about the same size. Porting something to iOS doesn’t reduce the size unless functionality or samples quantity/quality are reduced.

So what’s taking up all that storage? That seems huge when there are some very powerful synths that take up considerably less space. Is it just because of the amount of presets? I know the desktop version has a ton of samples/presets included. (Or so I’ve heard).

Yeah, the samples. There are 8 sub-categories on desktop that you can download - Atmospheric, Cinematic , Modern Songwriter, some others I can't recall right now. IMO, there is some seriously good stuff in there that your average synth geek likely couldn't tease out with his own samples. (If you're a talented sound designer, you could...

So for LP4i to be truly compatible with desktop, you'd need it all. However, in a Logic Project, you can choose to include the Alchemy samples used within that project to send off. But most have full Alchemy installed anyways, so why make your Project size bigger?

Gotcha. Haven’t used the desktop in ages. Thanks!

  • Really need InstaComposer 2 on the iPad… Please..

He did not even use the scenes.. Really nice..

That's the sad thing to say for Neutron. 🥺 I never specifically bought Neutron, got him in iZotope suit, but Unmask is priceless tool on its own, even for me who uses Pro-Q all the time and has everything from FF. Also Exciter is a phenomenal dynamic distorter (Trash2 algorithms used). Sculptor spectral shaper, multi band intelligent Gate (removing bleed, using hysteresis), beautiful sounding multi band Compressor, etc. And finally, Visual Mixer is like a cherry on the top.

If we get this on the iOS platform, people here will scream of excitement! 😂

No, Vocal Tune Studio is a one off purchase, no subscription.

The other day I tweeted SubLab on Twitter if they would port to iOS and all I got from them was a like (❤️) on my tweet. I would also like 808 Studio 2 and HexDrum to come to iOS. It would be nice if we had Kontakt & Serum too. If Decent Sampler can come why not they. Serum would be big thing like Logic. Also Venomode (PhraseBox, Complexor 2, Maximal,…) said they’ll be looking into it

And following up on things @wim would like to see, I'd like the option of setting an audio recording path to an external hard drive.

The capability is there in iOS since somewhere around iOS 13, but developers need to specify build it into their apps individually.

Ahh, do you know if you can set an external audio recording path in Cubasis 3.5?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. When Cubasis is recording the internal file goes in its own file system and you can't change that. When you export a recording from Cubasis you can put it where you like.

I think what you're asking is whether or not you can specify where internal app file storage is located. I don't know of any app on iOS that does that. Some, such as Pure Synth Platinum, let you specify an external location to store things like large sound packs or sample libraries.

What I was asking was if there was a way to record audio data (in real time) to an external drive like you can on desktop, so you don't keep constantly writing big data files onto your main drive.

No, there's no option to do that. I don't know of any apps that do provide that.
