  • On the Korg website it says:

"If you don't already have Ableton Live, sign up in app to receive Ableton Live Lite for free."

Ableton .ALS export is going to turn an awful lot of heads, many of which may not have paid attention to iPads for music. I'm gonna stick it in the 'big deal' column. Well played @korg product team.

    +1

    Such a nice surprise!

Gadget could use a Session Mode type of mode, like they have in iKaossilator. I have to think one might be on the way.

They even have a link inside the app, when you go to export to Ableton Live.

  • How big are each of the new Gadgets? I am running out of space on my 64 GB iPad 3. Time for a new iPad. The iPad 3 does not perform well with Gadget... sort of a delay when pressing a key, and hearing the sound.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Looks like iKaossilator will be getting Ableton export soon too (along with a new IAP sound engine)

  • Ableton Live 9 suite has a 30 day trial. Sounds fun to me.

  • No MIDI out or MIDI export is a shame. Exporting to Live is cool though, and it's great they are bringing other apps on board with that too.

  • I wonder if these new sampler gadgets are meant to fulfill the role of "audio tracks" that Korg originally promised? Is there a known file length or size limit? It seems like Abu Dhabi would be good for triggering vocals, at least.

    thanx a lot!!

  • Sample limits is a good question...

One can get a serial for Ableton Live Lite by signing up from within the app via the Export menu.

Ableton are also doing a deal on Live upgrades. The Suite - from Live Lite - is then $100 off - from $649 to $549 until the 10th Sept.

    1. I wonder how Abu Dhabi compares to Samplr...I guess there's still no way record and loop live audio into Gadget.

    2. Will AbuDhabi just play a loop synced to the project tempo in full and then allow you to rearrange the slices on the fly?

    3. Also it it possible to play the chopped audio as one-shots (without the loop playing)?

    4. When the song is exported as a Ableton project. It's just wav or aiff files, along with an ALS file that tells Ableton the project tempo and translates the arrangement to Ableton's session view right? In that case you could, in theory, use those files as stems in any standard DAW correct?

  • Wow this is an amazing update!

Im interested in the ableton update. Will mess with it tomorrow.

Can i basically export my drums seperated into channels like kick snare..etc as 24 but wavs from ableton lite? Because if so i am all set. Ill use ableton lite just to get the stems exported and then mix in logic.

Hopefully someone can verify this, as i am not great with logic.

Just trying to figure out how to get the drums seperated really..i think everything else is golden.

    @disgo

Abu Dhabi is not a looper, it's a loop slicer, with the slices assigned to each pad. It still operates by MIDI though, with MIDI triggering the slice. You can move the markers, so you could theoretically put a long sample in one slice. I haven't tested this though.

    @disgo and @MalphRacchio

It exports the audio files as tracks (EDIT: in other words, if you have 5 gadgets in a project you'll end up with 5 audio track files), with the .als file containing the data that splits them up into clips for Live, so I'm pretty sure you could just use the track audio files as stems in other DAWs. I haven't tested this either.

  • Anyone figured out how to delete samples the user imports? Was hoping for that modern 'swipe right and press the delete button' technology, but if it's there it's playing coy. Also a bit irritated that I can't seem to rename pasted samples from 'General Pasteboard (1, 2, 3 etc etc) '. Could get awful dull with a few hundred of them....

  • MIDI. OK, there's a learn. Not the tap on the knob type, like say in iPolySix. There' s a drop down tells you the current assignments, you tap on one in the list and move your physical knob to assign it. That's good for performance setup, and to review what is where. But rather indirect to configure. See virtual knob, touch virtual knob, touch physical knob, that's direct. See virtual knob, figure out name of virtual knob, open learn list, find name in list, touch name in list, touch physical knob, not so direct.

Good, as long as Gadget is your only synth playing, and as long as you only have one controller connected. Gadget still owns your iPad.

It is still omni, still promiscuous. And some, but not all, CC assignments transfer to the current gadget. Set Output Level on one, the others get the same CC. Except for London (so far). May or may not be useful, or confusing, don't know yet. But, no final mix control.

  • When exported to Live, which end makes the noise? Is it still Gadget fed MIDI from Live, in which case how is omni mode defeated, or is it Live, in which case how do the sounds get matched?

  • As noted above, you can render a song as individual tracks if you want to get them into a DAW, without the need to use Ableton export as an intermediary step to accomplish this.

Ok thanks. Seems if you export to live you cant mix your drum sounds individually. Kind of a bummer if that is the case. They also do the same thing for dropbox exports.

Anyone know if this is true and why it would be?

  • edited September 2014

@dwarman A gadget project exported to Ableton is essentially just the audio tracks sequenced into Live's paradigm (scenes and clips); i.e. Audio loops (No MIDI involved).

  • Anybody getting this error when trying to connect updated Gadget to Dropbox?

"Error authorising app. Only a limited set of users can receive access tokens while this app is in development mode"

  • edited September 2014

Apparently I'm not one of the cool kids: when I tried to link the app to my Dropbox account I got an error message saying there were "tokens" available to only a limited amount of users while the app is "in development" or some such.
    ??????

  • Ah! I am not alone. Looks like we found the first teething troubles!

  • Same problem here. Looks like dropbox support is broken

  • I think maybe Korg are being cautious about too many Dropbox users til they get all the bugs ironed out.

  • Pretty good update, just having landscape makes this app more useful to me.

I wish you could assign gadgets to their own channels tho. I know part of the point of the app is to use the built in sequencer, but I have more powerful sequencing options available to me. Still dreaming of being able to really use this app with the Octatrack. Even sequencing in the app would still be problematic if it remains on omni mode.

Does the update for Ableton Live only work in Live 9? I don't have any great need to update from 8 yet.

Dropbox has worked fine in the previous version, so I don't think so. It's really a pain that it does not work, don't want to use iTunes file sharing. I hope they fix it soon.

  • DropBox is working here? Exported a .als and imported a sample from DB.

  • The Bilbao gadget Atmos 3 kit. I use London a lot so the extra kits are are nice.
