  • All korgs are on sale, too

  • Same track with the RawCutz kit 5. lots of cool sounds in here

  • I think they forgot to set the app out of dev mode :)) And dropbox in dev mode allows you to use a limited number of testers :)

Probably a .1 update will come to fix this.

Anyway... FREAKIN' FREE ABLETON LIVE LITE 9. It's not Live Suite (which I currently sold) but hell yeah! It's free.

You can export audio to Dropbox, as Ableton Live project (not sure what that does exactly as I don't have Ableton)

"If you don't already have Ableton Live, sign up in app to receive Ableton Live Lite for free."

  • Just an update to the AB sdk an I'll be a happy bunny:)

  • edited September 2014

I think they've updated the SDK for AB also. It doesn't throw that error on iOS8 beta.
But yeah, I was expecting sampling via AB too.

I can see they allow you to sample directly from AudioCopy (not paste... SAMPLE), but can't seem to make it work. Anyway... AudioCopy cannot sample from external input I think.

Update: Ok... so you click Sampling, you record smth, go back to Gadget, click AudioPaste and select the recording. Works for me.

  • A bit disappointed we still don't have audio tracks, but still a great update.

  • From the specifications page: Audiobus 2 Compatible

  • Thanks Alex, but can you edit the samples within the app destructively, can you trim and truncate audio in both of the samplers?

  • I am not hugely into drum samples and loop slicing - I need Doug to make a video of the new Gadgets to see what the potential is and whether it would be worth it for me. I am surprised there are no Korg vids seemingly available.

Yeah i came here to ask if there was any videos floating around

  • Can anyone confirm whether imported samples can be somehow renamed and deleted?

Yeah, that was my #1 wish :(. Suppose it's harder to charge 10 bucks for something basic enough that free GarageBand has it. Then again, Gadget really isn't a "DAW".

To me, these two samplers (Bilbao, in particular) are like paying 10 dollars to unlock AudioPaste. There already were "samplers" in Gadget, they were just restricted to Korg's internal content.

Given that 10 dollars is pretty close to the charged price of other full apps that do sampling (impc pro, etc). I'm not hearing that the Gadget samplers doing anything particularly unique from other samplers - it's just the convenience of having that ability within the same ecosystem as the synths, drums, etc. This is still an app I'm more likely to export individual tracks out of than mixing an entire thing within it.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Not destructively. On Bilbao you have start and length to set the start/end points and a decay. The editing is graphically represented on the sample screen though, so you'll always see how a waveform is edited. Pitch, pan and level are the other ones. All on a per-pad basis obviously.

The slicer gadget got all those parameters and a few others on a per slice basis.

There's no dedicated sample editor in the app. It relies on AudioCopy by Retronyms for quick sampling, editing and importing into the app (it obviously works with the general iOS pasteboard as well for audio copy/paste)

  • I'll try and get a demo together for tomorrow

    No ability to share projects.
But lots of chances to spend more money.

I haven't tried it yet but are you sure about that? It has export to Dropbox, Audio copy, something called Ableton Live project.
Edit: and it appears you can pick which track you want to export

Ok, how do I send a project to you, you amend it and send it back to me ?

Abu Dhabi is not a looper, it's a loop slicer, with the slices assigned to each pad. It still operates by MIDI though, with MIDI triggering the slice. You can move the markers, so you could theoretically put a long sample in one slice. I haven't tested this though.

    @disgo and @MalphRacchio

It exports the audio files as tracks (EDIT: in other words, if you have 5 gadgets in a project you'll end up with 5 audio track files), with the .als file containing the data that splits them up into clips for Live, so I'm pretty sure you could just use the track audio files as stems in other DAWs. I haven't tested this either.

Ok thanks. Seems if you export to live you cant mix your drum sounds individually. Kind of a bummer if that is the case. They also do the same thing for dropbox exports.

Anyone know if this is true and why it would be?

Just have one drum sample per gadget ie: a separate gadget for each drum element and this should give you a work around ;)

  • @raz said:

There doesn't appear to be a way, and it's a pretty glaring oversight if you ask me. At the very least there should be a way to delete, because you can name the user kit.

  • Regarding Ableton.
All owners of Ableton Live Lite are eligible for the beta tester program of Live 9!!

  • edited September 2014

As a work around for now, it's possible to delete, rename samples via iFunbox.

The samples for the two new gadgets are just wav files organized into folders, so seems like it should be an easy thing to slap a bunch of organized kits & loops into it all via iFunbox

As a work around, again, you can use iFunbox (or any iDevice file explorer) to grab the project file(s) you want, and add new project files into gadget as well obviously.

Edit: Actually, all your projects are available via iTunes filesharing. So that's the official way of sharing projects for now I guess.

In app would be nice, but not really crucial at this point since it's already a sharing method (or two) implemented.

    Good man!

  • They really need to allow you to delete samples. The same for mix downs. I found 4 mix downs I've done previously, when trying to add samples to Bilbao. So they have just been sitting there taking up space, with no way to see them until now :-( (well maybe via iTunes, but THAT'S a real pain)

  • edited September 2014

@Peter321 Use iFunbox (on your computer), or whatever iDevice file explorer works best for you . iTunes is a pain in the ass for sure. Still need a computer, but not having to use iTunes helps quite a bit here.

But yes, they need to implement a delete function.

  • edited September 2014

OK. I LIKE the update. I prefer the app as it is now compared to how it was yesterday (and I liked it yesterday), but for the unread record I think 10 bucks a pop is/was cheeky, but maybe it's what the market will wear.

Double But, yes, I know you can ifunbox it and all, but for pity's sake, if you're charging a chunk more because the majority of your market are musos/appoholics, sprinkle a little class over the code and let us poor buggers RENAME and DELETE samples right there. Not the science of rockets or wheels and their reinvention etc.

  • edited September 2014

Okay so you can actually delete and rename the pasted sample files when connected to iTunes. You don't even have to sync or anything, just connect your iPad with Gadget open and running, and you will see the pasted samples listed in Gadget's Documents in iTunes.

Select and press the delete button on your computer keyboard to delete, and select then click on the name to change the name.

And wow, you can even add sample files this way. Just click the "Add..." button underneath the list of Gadget Documents. I just added an .aif sample file from my computer and it showed up in Abu Dhabi and played back fine.

*Recommendation deleted until Korg adds micro fades to remove clicks from sample playback.
