@VirSyn might the full screen on GB bug you fixed on tera could be fixed on bark filter?

Personally, I’d be more than delighted if we could get a fully functioning version of Bark Filter on macOS. There’s nothing quite like it available from any other developer.

I’m iPad only but yes bark filter is fantastic. I love all of Virsyns effects.

  • I took the punt and gotta echo everyone’s sentiments here. This is a quality FM synth and a great addition to Tera Pro. Love how you can keep it simple or click the algorithm button to dive into the editing. Great work @VirSyn

@VirSyn A feature which would take the FM editor over the top is to be able other waveforms in addition to sine waves. Some other desktop synths include sawtooth and other traditional synth waveforms but also waveforms from the TX81Z. This would be awesome if possible.

In that case I'll add a request for the option to individually set set the start-phase of each FM operator, something that the SY77 and SY99 added to their FM engines and that later propagated to the FMX engine in the Montage/MODX line.

Another 'phase related' wish it to be able to set the start-phase of the LFOs and a uni/bi-polar switch for the output unless that functionality is already 'hiding' somewhere :sunglasses:

I know what you are asking, but you can already FM modulate Osc2 and Osc3 with almost anything. ;)

That functionality is there under the hood 100%, ;) how far did you go in utilizing phase modulation capability of Osc1 and Osc2? When you press that ‘PM’ button you can control phase shift however you like.

That is one of the ways to do 'Pulse Width Modulation' in TeraPro so I know that one. :sunglasses:

I already use an LFO to control the phase of the oscillator when PM is enabled which in practice creates pulse-width modulation. The problem is that it's quite tricky to set where in the cycle the modulation starts so the sweep could start anywhere from super narrow to full width and still be able to sweep the whole range, for this being able to control the start-phase of the LFO would be a big help.

I've also experimented a bit with using a looping MSEG to control the phase-modulation, this way I can at least partially control where in the cycle the modulation starts but it's not as straight forward as using an LFO with control over start-phase and being able to switch between uni/bi-polar LFO output would also help a bit. (Think assigning velocity to LFO start-phase, so low velocity would start with a narrow pulse and high velocity would be full width and the 'sweep' would still cover the entire range).

But I know this is an 'edge case' and thankfully I've got other apps that I can use for these types of effects.

So my humble request to @VirSyn is to add modulatable control over start-phase for the LFO and maybe even legato mode so the LFO doesn't get re-triggerd by notes played in legato.

This is applicable to more than just 'phase control', think picking which frame a full wave-table sweep starts at as another use-case.

    Cheers!

Yeah, but this is different. It's using different waveforms for the operators as part of the DX7 synth patch itself, which would yield different results than what you're describing. This would also yield more possibilities, because you have 6 operators/oscillators to use.

It's more akin to TG77 or FS1R level functionality in hardware or Arturia DX7 V or FM8 on desktop.

You actually need something like XLFO from FF?! Admit it! ;) Thanks for resolving the mystery for me, I didn’t know for what reason you need that functionality. I’m doing my sweeps with automation by hand mostly, haha. I believe that in more controlled actions you really need those precise LFOs.

    Would love that :sunglasses:

I'm a sucker for that one as it can easily double as a step-sequencer...
...Twin 3 is totally bonkers, love that thing!

Yeah, 🤩 I’m biased towards anything FF, so I shouldn’t talk about it in a thread of another synth I like. Haha!

Sorry for my bluntness, I used your post to promote TP features for newcomers. ;) I know what you said before, it would be fantastic to choose waveform per operator. With ‘meta parameters’ this FM7 module could surpass Montage FM and the new ‘Xplorer’ feature. IMHO, it is already better than ‘Xplorer’.

Thank you for Arturia DX7 info, I have the Collection 8 license but never installed DX7, blame iceGear for that haha. I really didn’t know it’s capable of a variety of waveforms per op.

@Luxthor LOL. Enjoy! Yeah, Arturia DX7 is pretty great but I hope Tera Pro surpasses it. 😄

I'll take all the FM synths I can get. I already have too many already, haha.

  • @Satie said:
The knobs OP Level haven’t their functionality yet, have they?

I have to be more precise - the OP Level on the yellow operators works like they should. But not the blue ones in the first stage of hyrarchiy - or is that so for a reason?

  • @Grandbear said:
@VirSyn have you seen the approach taken by this project to generate DX7 patches? It could be used as a source of inspiration (though I'm not sure what the MIT license means in this case) for a randomizer:

Yes you're right, this bug is already fixed and will come later today as another update...

Same 😂 Phasemaker is the only one on iOS that I don’t have I think. I’m just a sucker for FM. And the one in Tera is great and comes with a ton of presets. Harry did a great job on the UI also. A

Phasemaker is fun. It has a similar macro control approach combined with detail editing. Plus it's so dependable but lightweight that it's the one I grab every time when I just want to something with which to test Mozaic scripts, etc.

Not so great in the preset department though, and not compatible with DX7 patches.

Maybe I need to finally grab it. Well, I definitely don’t need it but it would be nice to finish my Bram Bos collection 😂 I love Ruismaker FM so I’m sure Phasemaker is great too. My go to app for testing things is usually Accordion lol

Oh man 100%. Especially with the effects, Formant filter, envelopes, etc. It can get really experimental and like you said, it’s killer for drones. It’s a sleeper pick for one of my favorites on iOS.

If i can apply cc74 to just some of this that'll be plenty. While most sound designers will of course be happy with the editing, it's the modulating by expression of that that i'm looking forward to.

Thanks again, this is a very big deal.

You can use MPE with CC74 already with the underestimated Performance controller the original hardware already had!

Change your settings on your Apple device (not in Tera) to dark mode. Tera Pro will then automatically also appear in dark mode 🔥
