    Sweet! :sunglasses:

As far as I know the 'dice' selects a random preset from all of the viable FM7 available?
Would it be too much to ask for a long-tap on the dice to actually randomize actual preset values?
(Yes, I know it's tricky to create a semi-random function for an FM synth that will create a playable patch but still for 'happy accidents' it could be handy)

Also noticed that the 'macro sliders' do not changed the actual envelope values?
(This could be handy for further tweaking of a preset that has initially been adjusted with the macro sliders).

Looking forward to this, some healthy competition for KQ Dixie when it comes to creating FM sounds.

    Cheers!

Yes, the dice randomly selects one from all. It will get more function as soon as I have a sensible way to randomly generate fm parameters, I already have an idea for this to work...

The macro slider idea I had in mind work the other way round: use a preset and then tweak it with macros...

Great that would be awesome, I only hope it would be another dice because this one is good as it is. 🤩

it's hidden under the pseudo "PITCH" operator to get the gui cleaner...

    Perfect!

One 'thing' I really enjoy in KQ Dixie is the way it's possible to 'boost' the carrier operators for hotter output (ie. over all volume boost and option to normalize carrier levels) and also being able to control and edit external synths (Volca FM/FM2 and a real DX7) and well export SysEX banks for easy preset sharing.

Boosting the 'carrier operators' can not be emulated by simply boosting the entire sound later in the signal chain.

But no doubt this will be a very welcome addition to the toolbox!

    Amazing work
Any chance any of thesenewly editable parameters can be modulatable and thus can be made expressive?

    Thanks

@VirSyn please, don’t kill me! ;) It would be super helpful if you implement the ‘Mute’ button for meta controls.

Edit: Reason is when tweaking operators I also tweak meta controls, it's the new way of FM design for me, freaking fantastic. But in that new playground it would bi nice to mute meta controls and inspect root sound with ears and oscilloscope / spectroscope.

Darn, I'm nearly done with my wavetable presets, then the Brainz dropped, and I thought about incorporating those patches, but then I went on vacation and forget about preset making. This feels like a perfect time to come back. Amazing update.

I echo the question and kindly ask not to throw me out of the window :p

  • amazing update, thanks

  • Awesome update Harry!

There's a bug I should have reported long: if you use hold and turn on and off a key, it remains blue and cannot be activated again if you don't switch hold off and on again. //iPad 11 M1, iPadOS 16.6//

  • Awesome update!

  • Curious how everyone thinks this compares sound and UI wise to other 6 op FM synths on iOS like Dixie, Phasemaker, Nambu, NFM, etc?

I’m still planning on buying it just to be able to blend the different engines within Tera, but I’d like to know how it holds its own as an FM synth?

Doug’s demo made it sound great!

  • @VirSyn might the full screen on GB bug you fixed on tera could be fixed on bark filter?

It’s more than 6 op FM, because you can FM modulate Osc2 with Osc1 + entire FM7 module x 2 with layering. ;) You just can't compare this with other FM synths, would be unfair. ;)

Considering that it's quite easy to layer two patches with full effect-chain per patch in TeraPro it's right up on top.

KQ Dixie has a few tricks up it sleeve and can control external synths (Volca FM/FM2 and a real DX7).
It can export SysEX files (presets and banks) and sounds a bit 'fatter' due to some nice additions like carrier boost (this is not a simple 'output level boost') as well as a generic 'output boost' among other things.

Other than that there's not much difference in the pure 'DX7 Emulation' and both will work fine as DX7 'replicas'.
I thought I'd be using Nambu a bit more but it's no longer installed on my iPad, same deal with PhaseMaker and NFM.

KQ Dixie might be a bit easier on the CPU and does allow layering of up to 8 FM presets and does support AUv3 multi-out so it's a matter of preference really.

Both KQ Dixie and now TeraPro cover my FM needs more than well but the layering and effects puts TeraPro on top for now.

I've gotten used to the way KQ Dixie manages presets but it can drive some people mad so FM7 for TeraPro has an edge here...

I'd say get it, you won't regret it.

    Cheers!

Please. My wallet can’t take this 😭 looks like I gotta buy it now lol (I was going to anyway)

Thanks! I’m a big fan of Dixie but the preset management is a little bizarre. Not horrible though. I still have Nambu but never went for NFM since the dev mentioned it’ll be added to Mela 4 eventually as a module. Phasemaker is the only Bram app I never bought despite being a big FM head. I think I’m covered there, but will be buying this to add to the arsenal of what Tera can do. What a synth it’s become huh? Great work from the dev. Up there with Buttersynth for the iOS heavy weight champion.

It even replaces Nambu for you, @Samu ?
    Interesting

Yes because I really do prefer the OG 'DX7 Style' FM sounds.
The only IceGear app I use on a semi-regular basis is Lagrange...

  • And there's no one stopping one from using 'Brainz' for Transient sounds and FM7 for the rest of the sounds and mix with more oscillators and then layer it with another equally complex preset...

Lagrange is super. I wish the filters could sound more deeper/darker/fatter. Overall it’s a great thing.

  • Well, I wasn’t going to buy this IAP, but after seeing the commitment Harry has to his product(s) with this latest update, I can’t NOT buy it! After all, I did buy the Wavetable and Brainz IAPs, so I’m pulling the trigger now on FM7!

    @VirSyn

  • Yeah, @VirSyn is on a tear with this one. Great work 👍

  • Also, btw, Harry and others who have commented on this are right - the macro controls are insanely useful!

...or using the FM7 output as modulator for Tera Pro's own set of oscillators ( fm input! ) for kind of brutal FM ;-)

  • @VirSyn have you seen the approach taken by this project to generate DX7 patches? It could be used as a source of inspiration (though I'm not sure what the MIT license means in this case) for a randomizer:

;) I'll be interested in anything you can come up with. I don't normally care about randomizers, but this one has been interesting, maybe because is harder for me to get from idea to patch with FM synthesis

Personally, I’d be more than delighted if we could get a fully functioning version of Bark Filter on macOS. There’s nothing quite like it available from any other developer.

Yes, I also would really like Bark Filter vst for my Windows desktop. I see that it was once available, I emailed them about it but never heard back....

  • "You sonofabitch, im in!" Thanks @VirSyn for keeping Tera Pro interesting and useful

More specifically, I'd like to be able to buy all of VirSyn's software from the App Store and I don't even care if I'm buying one version for both iPadOS+macOS or two versions so I have each app mirrored between the two platforms.

Devs offering their software for sale and updating through the App Store is massively better for customers. Eliminating the constant need to check back on dozens of different sites to see if there are updates is a serious pain and inconvenience.

  • What a great playground👍🏽👍🏽🧔🏼🙏🏽
The knobs OP Level haven’t their functionality yet, have they?
