Is there a way to adjust or disable the velocity response of the onscreen keyboard?
A few years after I started dev work someone who used my application asked me to change the colors.
I thought it would be best to allow her to customize however she wanted and spent a few hours making all forms user customizable.
And she was so happy! This was almost 15 years ago, but I remember she asked me to come see her custom forms… I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It was brown, blue and gray… so ugly to me.. but I remember how happy she was sharing it, and how the app I developed had become her own with a simple trick.
So I can’t relate. Like the arbitrary restriction on number of bars, to the exact color choices allowed. You can’t really hide behind ‘waste of effort’ because it literally takes no time.
Its just your personal esthetic of washed out colors. vs LPs glaring colors, its like you’re riffing off each other. Candy store or mud, no in betweens. Is this an apple thing? Limit choice and call it style?
No. This would be a good feature request for the feedback site though.
What do you think? Three options: Fixed, Top, and Bottom? (Top and Bottom being the location of max velocity)
Anybody else having issues editing velocity in the piano role node? It’s very hit or miss for me. Is there some trick to it?
The note needs to be selected. Is that maybe it?
Actually, I see what you mean on iPhone at least. I don't think I ever tried that on the phone. I don't remember any problems on iPad. Finger placement has to be exact on the beginning of the note.
I'm going to suggest that finger placement anywhere within the note duration can adjust the velocity.
It’s the same on iPad for me. There’s a thin line for the velocity that’s really hard to hit. Even when I’m able to hit it, it sometimes stop tracking my movement half way through. @ElliottGarage it would be great if you post a video showing how to do it.
I think I figured out the trick. Slice horizontally across the velocity line at the height where you want it at. I was originally trying to drag up or down like a slider. Still can’t figure out how to set the velocity when there are multiple notes on the same beat. I tried holding down on one note and then editing. In that case I see multiple velocity lines but it’s really hard to click on the right one and hard to know which of the lines belongs to which note. Still think a video demonstrating proper usage would be great.
Switch to the select tool and select the note you want to edit. When you change the velocity it’ll change only the selected note.
Thanks for the diagonal swipe trick. That helps a lot. 👍
Is it just me or isn‘t it supporting Apple Pencil?
And can‘t one reorder the fx?
@ElliottGarage Just wanted to chime in and say that using the generative node with klevgrand’s Skaka and Borsta has given me hours of joy!
Thanks for this wonderful app!💯🤌🏾❤️
Ha! Those Klevgrand rythm sounds blend well with generative apps. I stumbled upon this same exact combo just last night! Borsta for sure, shy Skaka needs some Punchlab on top.
Nodes is great
You can't reorder FX at this time.
Thanks!
A re-installation did it for me with the Apple Pencil. Works now.
Any chance of a light mode for people that just have trouble seeing stuff when it’s dark-ish mode? I’d be happy to pay for something like that as an IAP.
@isal @wim yes you don't need to grab the velocity (and the other controllers in that window)....simply swipe where you want the value
@thatguysmitty @Bob thanks!!! I'd like to see some of your performances
@Angie you can make a request in the roadmap https://eg-nodes.canny.io/feature-requests
It looks pretty good in "Classic Invert" from Accessibility Settings. I have it set up on my iPad so that it comes up as an option on triple-tapping the home button.
(I tried to post a screenshot, but it doesn't come across with the inverted colors.)
Hacks like that will void your warranty. The king has spoke. Its his baby, youre just paying for it, user.
I don’t see any reason to be so rude to the developer. He hasn’t said he wouldn’t consider doing a light version. In fact, his wife just had a baby today, so you might want to cut the guy a little slack because he didn't answer @Angie right away.
And btw, I paid for the app with full knowledge that it had a fixed color scheme. I didn’t pay for unlimited demands for additional features.
Yet here’s a developer who has an entire site dedicated to improvement suggestions he has been regularly accommodating at a prodigious pace. Yet you get your nose bent out of shape because he doesn’t see eye to eye with you on one point, and is up front enough to say so. Says a lot more about you than him.
(Sorry all. Had to get that off my chest. Gonna block this person so they don’t set me off again. 😉)
No need to apologize. A couple of their comment seems unreasonable and bordering on “troll” behavior. Which seems to happen with most threads they’re in lol 😅
Nah. It’s on me. They have a right to speak their mind. I just don’t always have the self discipline not to be provoked. 🙄
Brand new to nodes. Do I understand correctly that you can't change the node type on the fly just to try it out?
I don't know exactly why there is a discussion about colours, but I find it a bit difficult to see which node is running and which is not. I would like to see a clearer (colour) change in the toggle switch when a node is active/passive.
Unfortunately, I only have a 6th generation iPad and apparently it's not powerful enough. Nodes really like to crash.
I think it’s a statement to how good Nodes is that people want to customize every aspect of it.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for a global time signature setting (3/4) but really enjoying what it has to offer, what is on the roadmap and how well thought out it is.
Correct.
I agree. I imagine that’ll evolve over time.
I’ll have to go back to my air 2 for a bit. It’s been rock solid on my 9th gen so far.
There have been lots and lots of stability and other improvements in the betas of late. I think you’ll be seeing some good things soon.
Thank you, Wim.
I really like the approach and I‘m in a good mood it‘ll become more mature. If I‘d had a wish it would be AUMNodes. And a new device ;-)
I'm also a new user and I agree with this. Perhaps a simple word in the middle of the "button", like "ON or OFF" or "PLAYING / IDLE" could be of a great help 😊.
Anyway, congrats @ElliottGarage 👍🏻 you have made a very cool app that I enjoy a lot so far 🙏🏻😎
Thanks @Gratouilli !
Tip about nodes playing…you have several way to see if a node is currently playing
1 the toggle is highlighted
2 the node scene progress circle is running
3 the sequencer preview window is running
4 the meter moves
5 the activity midi circle in the meter highlights
And…
Edit.. it’s here.. digging in..
And.. seems the only thing missing is a way to send money to developer..
Nice.. Thanks..
Congrats on the new baby!
The play button on the piano roll window, rhythm window etc. should indicate the node is playing as well but it’s momentary. Probably should toggle like solo and mute - thanks for that tweek by the way.
Edit: I see you fixed it in this new release - thanks!
It’s a super fun app and we really appreciate the hard work you’re putting into it. The song node looks great!
