Anybody knows what happened to the volume sliders in the individual nodes? They used to control both audio and MIDI velocity. Since the last update only audio volume control is working and I cannot adjust MIDI velocity anymore.

I remember there was some discussion on the Discord from someone that didn't want it to work that way. I said I would hate to see it go. I hope it's a bug, not a feature.

Yes, mixing multiple Midi streams with different volumes is fantastic. I hope it's a bug.

I’m really enjoying this app and the frequent updates, but have run into an issue with the new Audio / Sampler node.

I can add a loop .wav easily enough and it plays fine as a single node, but as soon as I add a Rhythm Node, it seems to stop working. Sometimes it just stops playing entirely and sometimes it’s silent for a while then suddenly starts. When I added a 2nd loop on another node the same kind of thing happens.

I tried adjusting trigger mode to gate, shot etc & didn’t seem to make a difference, plus tried Sync & Warp on and off, as well as adjusting the number of bars. I also tried on iPhone as well as iPad and on multiple projects.

So I assume I’m doing something wrong and hoping it’s glaringly obvious and stupid enough that someone will easily be able to correct me! 😁

There were problems with that in the beta earlier, but they seemed to be fixed. Are you sure you're on the latest update?

Just checked and seem to be fully up-to-date on v1.2.0. Thanks for the super rapid response though!

I can cross-post this over on the Discord server so it may get noticed sooner. Is there any chance you could attach an example project with the problem? You'd need to export the project, then compress it using the files app as I don't think the forum allows attaching the raw file type. It's OK if you're not able to do all that. 👍🏼

Thanks for your help - as I suspected it was user error! 😅

I had Ableton Link switched on and that seemed to be causing the problem. I’m not sure what it was trying to link to, but once I switched it off, it seemed to fix the issue!

  • But I was wondering- is it possible to implement Mackie control support in Egnodes?

Can eg nodes be used to sequence samples (a drum kits worth of one-shots) right out of the box, or do you need to buy IAPs for that ?

  • Sure you can control a sample via piano roll or any other node. No IAP for the app, it’s all included.

  • edited March 23

Does that include the rhythm node ? Asking because I’m thinking of a kits worth of samples, not just one.

  • @bibenu said:

yes - there are currently no IAPs except for the tip jar

  • Awesome, thank you both.

  • edited March 23

I'm confused .... does the Rhythm Node allow you to play samples directly, then ? From the tutorial it looks like it needs to host another module for that ?

These are MIDI maps for various hard- and software drum machines. Nodes will try to find the right MIDI map if you load a plug-in into this node, but for external hardware, or a plug-in loaded into another node you will have to choose the right mapping.

So you can't play samples (a drum kit) directly with a rhythm node ? You need an external drum machine, either software or hardware ?

Currently there's not a specific map for the sampler but you can use the 'splat-to-clat' one. The sampler node is triggered by a C3 midi node, and if you use another note the sample will be pitched (f.e. c#3 will pitch the sample 1 semitone up , D3 2 semitones and so on)

The rhythm node doesn't include samples or kits if that's what you're asking. It's just a sequencer. You can load a drum plugin into it or send the midi to another drum app.

  • @wim said:

The rhythm node ... is just a sequencer.

That's what I was trying to establish yes. Sorry it took so many questions, I obviously didn't explain myself well. (I hoped that I could load my own samples into the Rhythm node, but obviously not).

If you have an app such as Digistix, Hammerhead, etc. that you can use your own samples with, you can load that into the rhythm node. Most apps default to the right mapping for the sequencer lanes.

It could be nice for Node. @ElliottGarage

  • I'm a VERY happy new Nodes user. All other sequencers/grooveboxes (which I all own) seem to have some quirks for a musical approach to pattern-based electronic music:

Drambo is great, but it still does not record piano sustain, so no piano recording is possible
LK still crashes a lot, too unreliable
BAM cannot fire scenes with external triggers, and it has the unreliable LK sequencer
Helium and Atom are too tedious and limited inside AUM
Xequence2 is not hosted in AUM and has no trigger options anyway
Sand has less modules/external control and seems much simpler

The one quirk that I had was the missing master channel, BUT once I found out that you can route node outputs to group nodes (=master), everything works fine for me. THUMBS UP! :-)

@PotsdamBiker : Drambo can’t record sustain??!? Ugh.. Thanks for posting ..👍 ps.. Have you tried Neon?

  • Sure, Neon is only a step sequencer like BLEASS Arpeggiator, so again quite useless for melodical pattern-based music ....
And Cykle, Riffer, ZOA and so on can easily be integrated as Midi FX node.
I remain very impressed by EG Nodes! :-)

Drambo and sustain cc64 issues is a long standing problem, see:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/ipadmusic/comments/136r73t/drambo_not_recording_sustain_pedal/
Drambo isn't geared to composition-style sequenced music ...

For anyone who did not get this: The Add Note popup can be dragged down to show the MIDI FX node and the new SONG NODE. Also, the node overview can be dragged down to show more than 8 nodes. Hallelujah!

  • Another hallelujah: EG Nodes is the first iOS app to react to the transport controls of my Arturia Keylab. No useless buttons anymore! And, for LK users, quite amazing: no crashes so far! :-)

  • @PotsdamBiker thanks for your words of appreciation!

    Update 1.2.2 is online

  • Great update! Now I'm just anxiously awaiting more scenes so I can build out tracks with more parts. I bet having the node and master scenes scroll would do the trick without complicating or even changing the ui more than a bit.

  • Great idea with scrollable scene buttons! Man people will launch scenes with external controllers anyway.
