Here's a very good overview of the updates (both iPadOS and macOS):
If an iPhone version of Logic Pro happens, then I think I will resub just to see what I can make in it. This current update seems really great and almost tempts me to resub, but since I work on an iPhone exclusively these days, I'll wait and see.
I gotta say it does not seem super usable at that scale. I think the UI would have to be thoroughly re-thought for an iPhone version.
True, but one can dream lol.
Yes! I can finally add multiple samples from SampleCrate!!!
Love Apple. All the things I wished for. Split preview, Sample record, multi drag.
Yes indeed. And it is some quite solid devs.
I testes the “DON’T WORK” list in Cubasis 3. The only one that didn’t work in CB3 was Koala sampler. I didn’t test synthmaster one since i tested on my iphone
DONT WORK IN LP.
Hammerhead (works in CB3)
Monoke (Works in CB3)
Spacecraft (works in CB3)
Viking synth (works in CB3)
SampleWiz2. ( works in CB3)
Retro piano (works in CB3)
Synthmaster one ( didn’t test)
Sunrizer (works in CB3)
Koala sampler (don’t work in CB3)
Is it now safe to upgrade to iPadOS 17 (using an iPad Air 4)?
Thanks for the list!
While I know some AUv3 work in one host but not the other I have no real solid clues on why this is the case.
I know some AUv3's do not transmit any AUv3 parameters when the UI is modified, Spectrum and Fractalbits are two.
Some send full parameter tree changes (not the individual parameters) and some send just the parameter that has been changed once the finger has been lifted, so the automation can arrive late.
Some AUv3's can be manually automated by drawing the automation if the host shows all available AUv3 parameters.
(ie. FractalBeats is impossible to automate in Cubasis since it doesn't send AUv3 Parameter Changes and there's currently no way to pick a parameter to automate and draw the automation).
Recording midi from an AUv3 Instrument is also bit of a hit or miss.
Koala as one example only sends midi from the pads that contain samples but the sequencer doesn't output any midi.
Currently I have no energy to do in-depth testing of which AUv3's work in which hosts.
But I'd suggest getting in touch with the AUv3 developers mentioning the issues and also sending Apple feedback regarding AUv3 automation together with a list of apps that do work with most other hosts but break in Logic especially mentioning that Logic is the only host where it doesn't work.
I don't have high hopes of issues getting fixed with older AUv3s since there's no way to developers to charge for update of apps that are what 4-5 years old...
...so the more of us that bombard Apple with our 'issues' the higher likelihood there is that things will get fixed.
The Logic 'update list' contained 3 hand-full of fixes to reported issues (so the more of us that send feedback the higher the likelihood is that they will get fixed) so they do listen, but also have to prioritize, which is quite evident in the Voice over related fixes to make it more accessible to people who can't see that well (I've yet to start using voice-over to control my iPad but that might very well happen soon).
Cheers!
Multiout Auv3 without the complicated hackarounds is huge.
Being able to use Drumkit Designer with multi-out makes the drummer an option now.You can fine tune the kit pieces adding fx, controlling dynamics, add reverb and bus sends…
Mix Box NOT working
on ipad Pro M1 some older projects don`t open/crash
work still in non M1 iPad Pro
@Samu : What does Drambo give you that you can’t get in LP for iPad?
If it was £200 I would buy it
I can 'build my own stuff' using Drambo, something that simply can't be done with Logic alone.
Simply put they are both tools that can be used together, one doesn't automatically replace or substitute the other...
For people thinking that Apple doesn’t listen - saw Barbara Streisand on television last night (actual with her new book about her life) - she told that Siri in iPhone/iPad/Watch pronouns her name wrong, but, she called Tim Cook personally and, voila, next update it was fixed!
You are right @Samu
I’ll work out a list of AU’s with this issue and report to apple.
It will probably only be CB, drambo and beatmaker3
I don’t have/use zenbeats or Nanostudio.
Same hosts as I use on a somewhat regular basis
Poison-202 is one if my favorite synths so I'll try to get in touch with Jim when I see him online next time...
Ideally I'd love to be able to provide developers with a 'check-list' but since there's no official documentation from Apple as to what LogicPro for iPad expects in order for an AUv3 to automate properly it's a bit of a hit or miss...
I'll likely formulate my feedback to Apple in a polite way mentioning a bunch of well know plug-ins that do not work properly as well as remind them of the lacking AUv3 documentation which would aid developers in making their plug-ins 'Logic Compliant'.
One of the problems here is that many of the plug-ins are OLD and since there's no way to charge for updates in the AppStore they will likely never be fixed.
One missing feature LogicPro for iPad has is that there's no easy way to route and record midi from an AUv3 Instrument Plug-in, If there is it's very well hidden.
Also automating AUv3 effects is still awol?!
Who knows, maybe 1.2 will not be to far away
Cheers!
Thanks again @Samu
There was an explanation and some disagreement about AUv3 automation when Logic was released.

I doubt there will be an iPhone version of Logic Pro. It’s dense enough on a 12.9.. Maybe when the hinge phone comes out but it’s just not a practical idea
Pretty impressive update from Apple on Logic Pro for iPad!
Still things to fix and improve, but, everything fixed under the hood is giant…

Yepp, I'd love to see a list of all the 'enhancement' that are not on that list...
Like the little + in the mixer to add sub-tracks when using multi-out AUv3's.
And there's even a proper back arrow in the top left corner
One of my biggest wishes is also secretely improved. Window handling/resizing seems much more…well….logical now. Only tried it with a handful so far (Pro Q3, Mixbox,..) but i like. That said, while i have a feeling the GUI is a touch smoother in the arranger window, it does run worse with open mixer and plugin gui in a busy project. On M1 pro. But i‘m confident to update my M2 as well now with ios 17 and logic 1.1
2 of my 3 biggest wishes are still open but a great update nonetheless. See in 6 months 😄
So I saw the news about the Logic Pro update.
Realized I’d need to update my iPad (M1/1TB/12.9”) to iPadOS 17 in order to be able to run it.
So I updated my iPad to iPadOS 17, then got all the updates that appeared in the App Store after doing so, including the Logic Pro for iPad update.
Downloaded the new sound packs, etc. and launched Logic Pro…
Went through all of the new sounds, looked around inside Logic, trying to remember where everything was.
(I paid for a year’s subscription so far)
Thought to myself “ok, cool update”
swipes and force closes everything, then launches Drambo
Ok, I’m good!
This is great news! Nice if you could dual monitor with the iPad althoughI assume not?
Probably we will see v1.2 in march when the new iPads with AS M3 ships!
For me they are alloyed to release an 15” iPad Pro with M3 - instabuy!
Sample Alchemy for Logic Pro. A very welcome update (it's the same on both desktop and iPad).
I was under the impression that Apple had posted some sort of note about the automation situation but I don’t remember where I saw it.> @Lorichs said:
@Lorichs and @Samu: I’ve mentioned a few times that Logic Pro (like Auria Pro) requires that the AU send touch information back to the host and not just the parameter values. Cubasis doesn’t require this which is why it records parameters from AUs that provide that information.
I believe that from Apple’s point of view (as from Auria’s), the issue is one for the AUs to solve. I tried to convince Auria’s developer to reconsider, and he made a good case that without the touch information, overdubbing automation won’t work correctly.
I suggest contacting the AU devs.
I'm on it already for two of my favorites.
The update to Spectrum bundle will likely take time as the developer is working full time on other stuff but he put a mention of the fix on his GitHub pages and will look into it when he's got more time...
Also sent an e-mail to Jim regarding Poison 202, await reply.
As for AUv3 FX automation recording, it works using the regular automation tools for most plug-ins I've tried so far.
The iceGear effects (Yukawa, Koshiba, Kojita) launch but don’t pass audio since the update. I miss them already! Would someone please confirm?
