Wait am I misunderstanding or can you use the drummer to sequence other AUV3 drum apps? Are isn’t basically just copying the midi to a track and then replacing drummer with something like DrumKit, Ruismaker, etc?

Before you had to convert to midi. Now you can use the actual, editable drummer regions. So you can tweak and adjust and add parts all using drummer regions. And you can have multiple drummers per track — one for verses another for the choruses for example.

Just a nice little quality of life improvement.

Oh man that is a nice improvement. Damn I gotta stay out of this thread before I resub to logic 😂

If it's any consolation, we'll probably be waiting months and months for another significant upgrade. My guess is the release notes will be "bug fixes and enhancements" until iOS 18 ships next year. :smirk:

Haha yeah I figured. Which I’m fine with that. I don’t have the space on my iPad right now anyway and am kind of waiting to see what Steinberg does. I click with the cubasis UI waaaay more than Logic. That was the main hang up for me. It just didn’t gel with my way of thinking I guess.

Regarding Steinbergs Cubasis - are we sure that CB4 is in the pipeline?

Me personally have strong feelings that Steinberg have really tight budget set for Cubasis overall, and, the japaneese people that controlling Steinberg demands profit, not wellfare…

Who knows? I’m happy with Cubasis 3 regardless. There’s been apparent confirmation of at least an update incoming. Whether or not that’s C4 or or not is anyone’s guess but I’ll just be happy to see some improvements to what’s already there. For my uses, I’m mostly already covered. I’d just like to see proper mix busses and drag to loop for clips implemented.

I got to say I was very sceptical about the Logic Drummer. Never bothered to use it in desktop, thought it looked like a toy with those cartoon characters.
But after this update I’ve played with it more and it’s actually really good and usable. When you have an idea it’s fast to try out different beats in context, and then you can fine tune with the controls. Or convert to pattern and fine tune more for a final version. Stuff like fills are really hard to program or play live if you’re not a good finger-Drummer, they can sound very robotic and static. I feel like logic drummers fills and overall playing is quite organic and ironically more “human” than a human programming beats.

To sum it up; Drummer in Logic Pro is fantastic!

Sure, we have a lot of apps with drums, but no one is on level with Logics Drummer, especially now when we also can use external AU/AUv3 drum apps for the sound…

So a wild question of value. If you were to buy the new master AI plugin on its own what do you think the value would be? It’s free in Logic desktop but part of our subscription. Would that be something you would buy on its own as an plugin for iOS?

This is a pretty similar plugin for desktop (also available as a sub)

    £224 on sale. £299 list.

    https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/50-Mastering-/11463-LANDR-Mastering-Plugin

I think Apple's built-in "Mastering" button is going to put a lot of plug-in companies out of business. I'm hardly touching anything in the mixing and mastering arena from IK Multimedia now.

I think I will ‘remaster’ some recent songs I’ve done (I mixed down to 2-track before mastering so it should be really easy to get a 1:1 comparison) to compare the new assistant to my best efforts.

Will be interesting to see how badly I did against Logic’s assistant

I can post comparisons if anybody is interested…

Previously I’ve been using TDR Limiter 6 on desktop along with TDR EQ and compressor. Sometimes I will also use IK Multimedia tape plugin too although my ears can rarely tell the difference with that one ;-)

I have most of IK T-Racks which I did use for mastering but there are way too many choices and variables. As soon as I tried TDR there was no going back.

And now I think I’ll probably just use the new logic assistant as I don’t really enjoy ‘mastering’ and on first impressions the assistant sounds pretty great instantly.

it’ll be interesting to see what the assistant does with my recent mixes…

I’ve been remastering all of my old recordings and the difference is spectacular. This new mastering process helps me immeasurably.

  • Here's a great Logic Pro Guide video From Patrick Baird comparing Mastering Assistant with Grand Finale and BandLab. Similar to my own experience, I think Grand Finale sounds a bit muddy compared to MA.

  • ..so I have a complaint about the new update. Don’t laugh this is serious. I updated and downloaded the new sound pack, but I still have that dopey red update ball on my icon! I’ve tried downloading everything I can find but it won’t go away! Somebody help!!!

Do a cold reset/restart of your iPad and it will disappear…

Yes that’s one of my favorite things about GB and Logic and it was one of the things that kept me wanting to use Logic and try to make it work for me. Didn’t want to leave that feature behind. I Wish Apple would release that as an app on its own lol but I don’t ever see that happening.

  • So far loving this app coming from CB. Damn, still unlearning things:
Like double tap on midi clip to open the editor 😂
It’s a mind swap for sure at times.

  • @ErrkaPetti thanks for your help, but a hard & soft reboot actually didn’t help. I updated to 17.1.1 and still no help. I actually had to go into settings and turn off notifications for LP4I and then it went away. I count that as a glitch.

Check your pack manager tab. You might have one that didn’t fully update or in my case some how a GarageBand instrument needs to be downloaded.

Yesterday I dusted off my Roland D-50 old synthesizer from the 80’s - yet discovered how wonderful this sounds…

As I know there’s not any exact copy of this D-50 as an software synth to iPad, but, I gotten the D1 from AudioKit since ages.

But, when I try to load the AudioKit D1 as an AUv3 in Logic Pro for iPad, Logic refuse to load D1…

Is this an known problem? @Matt_Fletcher_2000

How many of you out there still have your Roland D-50 left in the collection (on still on the rig)?

If I don't recall wrong D1 was just update a few days ago and it's been it's spiritual successor is King of Digital with includes all of the sounds and presets from D1. (King of Digital has been super stable for me in LogicPro for iPad).

@AnalogMatthew can correct me if I'm out in the woods :sunglasses:

  • Purely by accident I just discovered that swiping down from the top of the screen activates split view. I had been using the three dots at the top of the window to put Logic and Sample Crate side by side but oh man, swiping is so much quicker and easier!

Am I the only one who didn’t know about this gesture?

Can you use a set of midi faders to control the mixer?

@cyberheater it’s not supported yet as far as I can tell. Cubasis 3 and Auria Pro support MIDI learn and Mackie protocol, though Cubasis’ functionality in this area is fairly buggy and not terribly usable, per my own testing.

Given that Logic Pro on the Mac has robust support for MIDI control surfaces (in other words, Apple has the code for this “in the can”), one would hope that we’ll eventually see this capability in LP4i.
