Finally, does iBassist have a “mutate” function of a sort (like Hammerhead, etc) or does it play the patterns the same way every time?

Yes it has a “jam” amount setting that’s more intelligent and musical than hammerhead’s mutate randomization.

And the new Line Editor.. with variation, randomizer (in ‘context’ with the selected baseline).. Length, Length randomizer.. pretty powerful.. edit.. and all with the option to add Jam.. .. sick..😷
Still will love to see IAP Bass Packs…

I’m curious, is this something that could be replicated with say, Pure Synth Platinums bass sound and a sequencer? I guess the sequencer would lack the “human” element of this app though.

The sequencer for this is just where it’s at, it really does a great job adding the human element and then easily get it to do different styles. If I want funky, I can get pretty in the ballpark using Pure Acid with some swing or Riffer but this edges out those two options for me. Especially if the drummer apps get au treatment and then having the whole sync ecosystem. Plus the midi out on this rules

Thanks. I think you’re right. I’ve tried and tried to get a convincing human bass sound from the apps I have and I can kinda get close but nothing compares to the demos I’ve heard of this one.

The integration with the Drummer apps is terrific as well. Unfortunately that only works in the standalone version for now though.

Heck, I can’t even use it in any DAWs since the upgrade, but I’m having a great time with it even so. I hope it gets fixed for the OS versions the AU isn’t working in soon.

Yep, just tried again after reinstalling iBassist. Still doesn’t work. Not recognised as an instrument.

Sounds so cool. How many of these options (variation, randomizer, length) are accessible as AU parameters?
I prefer making widgets in Loopy Pro to control the parameters I need, so I can avoid opening the different AU windows as much as possible.

😎 Thanks! well… months of work here… if any happy iBassist user would like to say thanks for the update, nothing better than purchasing any of the other drummer app 👍

    Thank you for the update!
I own all drummer apps already and love them for some years now.
Guess I have to write/ update some reviews this weekend.

iOS lower than 16 is not recognizing it. Gonna try to fix it, but difficult without any device with that iOS to test.

Well... Some users reporting errors before even opening the AUv3 window, it just shows the message to migrate the database... opening the iBassist AUv3 shows a window asking to migrate database (to preserver USER data ) or start fresh.

Seems that if the user didn't even open it ..... the db is created without any data.

Ok, will try to work on a workaround so that there is no error in these cases...

AUv3 can't access to the original StandAlone version Database, that's why it needs to migrate database, that's why the popup ask the user when opening in AUv3 the first time.

Only the StandAlone target can access the old data, need to ask the user even when didn't have any data saved, cause the AUv3 target doesn't know

I’m on 16.6.1. Not recognised in logic at all. I can get it to open as an instrument in aum. Are you meant to be able to play the sounds with a keyboard because can’t do that. But I can get it to play using the play button in aum not iBassist.

Ok I have it opening now in logic. It quite often gets stuck in the menu for settings btw. Nothing no way to back out the back button bottom right doesnt work

In Logic seems more hidden, did you try here ?

You can play iBassist with chords! Activate LIVE MIDI IN and hold a chord on your keyboard (connected to iBassist). iBassist will disable it's own chord progression, but uses the Lines that you've chosen. NB. AUM must be running...

I already own all of the apps, so I’m loading up on some drum IAPs.

Thanks for the hard work to make iBassist AUv3 happen.

Thanks for the help btw. :) I can’t quite get the chords ti work. I Hope auv3 comes to your other apps. Would be auto buy for me

  • I haven't read through the entire thread so apologies if this was already mentioned, but for anyone that is having crash issues even before the auv3 opens, or if the progression lines aren't showing. Delete/Re-install, and open the standalone first.

I went from not even being able to load it in loopy pro, to it now working as intended. Still crashes at times between switching the bass sound types, but reloading brings it right back .

Always safest to open any auv3 standalone once before opening as an auv3. That will probably cure most of the issues ppl have been having

That doesn't fix the issue where it doesn't show up in any host on certain OS versions, but is solid advice in general. I think it's best to quit all hosts before installing apps or updates and always run the standalone first when installing a new app or an app that has added AUv3 support.

Thanks. I’m still on the last version of iOS 16. Is that one working?

I’ve been able to get fairly good results with Riffler sequencing bass patches in PSP2, but this still seems like it’s just a cut above the rest.

Ha - @LuisMartinez any chance of getting those parameters exposed? I hope this isn't the part where you're already wailing and gnashing teeth and regretting you ever went down the auv3 road. Let's face it, with Logic not supporting IAA any more though, it's kind of necessary, and an important way to future-proof yourself. Given that it's a free update though, I think it's more than fair to take adding things like this at your own pace

Probably overkill born of long years of IT experience. I suspect sloppy handling of database record locks and updates were at the root of the infamous “disappearing AUv3 plugins” problems a few years back. I never ran into those issues and I’ve always thought it was due to my old IT habits bred from having to deal dumb programming mistakes for so many years.

Agreed. I’m surprised it was a free update. I’m still super tempted by this one but I do get pretty good results with the bass guitar patches in PSP sequenced by Riffler. Can’t justify the price right now but it does look great. I’ll eventually grab it. Hopefully it’ll be working and showing up by then lol

On the iPad (which is used mostly for music) I've always been in the habit of swiping up and quitting every app after I've used it. That one habit saves a lot of headaches IMO, leaving apps running in the background when you're installing or updating stuff is not a good idea.

  • Okay, I’ve downloaded the upgrade and deleted and restarted and reinstalled and I’m getting all kinds of grief from this app, extremely slow response and stuttering and completely misplaying lines. iPad Pro 2nd gen, iOS.v 17.0.3. Did I miss a memo about 17?

What host (if any) are you using it in? And what are your buffer settings in that host?
Also ... have you tried powering your device off and back on yet?

  • In my eyes, using generative bass lines is the most insulting thing you can do to your music. On the other hand, I’m just another random forum poster, so you are safe. No one should care. 😂
