I have no plans for doing scales.

Animoog, Model 15, DRC and others are so playable for moobs like me, exactly because they have customizable scales. It would be great to see in an app like this.

There are a handful of midi controller apps for this also if you don’t have any.

Can you mention any that are as responsive and easy to use, as the keyboards in the mentioned native apps? Preferably with custom scales and MPE. I already have kb-1 and Xequence AU | Keys. Haven't used either much though.

You can use Animoog Z as an MPE controller, though I’ve just had a play and it wasn’t great and I got stuck notes. Though you may be able to improve that by fiddling with the settings. Earlier in the thread Bram says he used KB-1 for testing, so that may be a better bet, and lighter on CPU than Animoog.

I’ve watched the demo and the @thesoundtestroom tutorial but I’m still not sure Salome is designed to be used the way I’m going to use it.
What I want to do is import a spoken piece (likely lengthy), move the start/stop loop points around and either record or export multiple loops from the original piece to another source.
If @brambos would chime in on this that would be great.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

From your description it sounds like all you need is an audio editor such as Auditor, Neon, Twisted Wave, or even just AudioShare. If you're not going to be doing pitch and other modulations and playing around with the samples in creative ways live then I don't know that this is a good fit. And as mentioned - 90 seconds max.

Thanks @wim and @McD. That’s what I needed to know.
I use AudioShare for everything but It would be great to have the whole audio file in front of me so I can trigger as I go.
I have ReSlice which is a good app and I think I can make that work. There are some pitch issues depending on where you tap the sample but it’s doable.

Some that I’d recommend looking into: Geoshred, Velocity Keyboard, Woodtroller, and LK. Not all of them have every feature you need but the first 3 have most of them.

    Oh and Midi Poly Grid!

Never tried Animoog Z as a controller so thanks for that, even though I’m not the one you’re responding to lol. Velocity Keyboard is fantastic though. Fully recommend.

I’ve considered Velocity Keyboard but never actually taken the plunge. One thing I forgot to mention is the Mononoke Pads controller that comes with Mononoke. Has scales and such, but only 8 notes. And the option to individually freely tune each note, so much potential for microtones etc.

Yep! I never really used it as a controller until this year and it’s pretty fun!

Looks like this completely universal including native macOS too! :)

I'm loving that I can run this on my Mac as well (Intel).

Did I miss something ? I thought AUv3 apps only worked on Silicon Macs? Not complaining though and thanks for posting the info, a very happy intel Salomer here.

Some developers are kind enough to compile for the Intel CPUs as well :)

It’s a bit more work to make a proper Mac version that supports Intel and ARM, but since I still own an Intel Mac myself it makes sense to do it (I think others just tick the box that says “Run on M1”, but that’s not how I roll).

Just as a data point ... I hadn't planned on purchasing Salome as it's not something I especially think I'd use a lot in the way I make music. But, seeing that it has an Intel Mac version changed my mind. Something about the extra value proposition I guess.

I’ve bought a few apps in the last year or so that also came with a native Mac version for pretty much the same reason :)

  • Having an intel Mac version adds a ton of value for me too and I’m much more likely to buy if that’s the case

    Yeh, but ...

where's the friggin' Raspberry Pi version already? 🙄

Can anyone tell me how pressure and velocity work in Salome? Looking for something that changes velocity depending on how hard I tap the screen, like vel kb, and where pressure can be tied to y distance and touch radius, but particularly y distance

Salome doesn't respond to finger radius the way that velocity keyboard does, but yuu can control volume depending on where you touch on the y axis, so it is easy to fade sounds in and out expressively

  • Remembering. Sound track by Salome. Great for creating drone atmospheres.

  • Salome 1.1 is out now.

    • Drag 'n drop sample support
    • 4 Octave MPE control grid
    • Switchable control axis for parameters
    • Auto-strip silence from recordings
    • Many other improvements and fixes

  • Excellent! Thank you so much for responding to our feedback Bram and adding these new features. Killer update!

Well, it's the thought that counts, right? Just joking but I do withhold my already suggested crop tool to be a way more effective tool than an auto-trim feature. Other than that: it's a nice update!

The grid works great, nicely slewed/slowed response prevents the smaller keys being less expressive, bravo 👏

Would there be room for a start end end knob so that while it’s engaged you can still change what region of sample you’re using? (Switching back to the single row view in order to tweak that stops playback of latched keys currently…)

I’m still using the filter cutoff on x as I’ve often thought that it being linked to pitch made a lot of sense, especially in this kind of device…

No unfortunately I did not find a way to combine those two things. I needed all the vertical real estate for the grid :)

    +1

In particular thank you for making the grid switchable: best of both worlds!

  • Had a droning session a few days ago !

  • Such a great app!
Really makes so many samples playable on
    Linnstrument, instantly. Outstanding.

Great update too, only thing I would want is for the grid to be customized to tune I fourths and to key/scale with accidentals like linnstrument/push.

Thanks for the always wonderful stuff Brambos!

  • Awesome 🤩 love this app! Been using it pretty much every day since I got it :)

Dang, this is the business! I was not expecting the grid layout to be so useful but it's fantastic! Super expressive. Thanks for the great update.
