    Salome 1.1 is out now.

    • Drag 'n drop sample support
    • 4 Octave MPE control grid
    • Switchable control axis for parameters
    • Auto-strip silence from recordings
    • Many other improvements and fixes

Dang, this is the business! I was not expecting the grid layout to be so useful but it's fantastic! Super expressive. Thanks for the great update.

  • Dropping this here:

Bram will try to pop into the premiere btw! Starts 20 mins from now.

I really liked Salome when it came out, but I had a few niggles about it lacking certain features I felt would make it killer. Well, it has just an an update making it truly a dream come true for me. It is now an insanely capable drone machine with a few features that give it an edge, in certain respects, over even hardware MPE controllers. This 17-minute video is a spoken walkthrough of those new features and explains why they are so useful.

Please smash the like and comment if you find the video useful. Donation links are below if you’re feeling generous, I make so little from YouTube that it is really essential I get community support if I am going to continue being able to do my walkthroughs and giveaways.

  • Drag and drop <3

is the sample saved on the auv3 state?

  • I'm not near my set-up at the moment so can't try this.
If I plug a midi controller keyboard into the ipad, will I be able to play Salomé like I can play other instruments?

Yes. If it’s not an MPE controller it will work as long as you’re sending on Channel 1. The other channels are reserved for MPE use.

Cool, thanks @brambos . This update is great!

One more question; can you explain the benefit of drag and drop? Everyone seemed very excited about it, but in what way is it better/easier than just clicking the "wav" button and selecting my audio file from there?

I just added drag and drop because people insisted it is useful. To be honest I also don’t quite see the major advantage of it and I find multitasking on the iPad rather clunky :p

The only ‘advantage’ I can see is that if the plug-in window is small the file picker gets squeezed inside the plug-in window while a slide-over view from which it’s possible to do drag’n’drop from can show more files at once making browsing a bit smoother. It’s also the only way to import from other file-managers that support preview like Sample Crate.

  • @Gavinski Killer demo. Sounds neat. Nice.

  • edited November 2023

Yep, sample crate in slide-over mode to quick preview. Personally can’t handle most multitasking on iOS either, but with drag and drop this is like rapid fire expressive instruments at finger tips now. This update surpassed what I was looking for so many thanks. 🙏

It IS useful becauseas Samu mentions, the Files app has no preview ability. So when using in-app file loading you have to know the name of the sample you want to load. If you instead use sample crate, for example, you can demo in samplecrate, in slideover mode for example, and then drag directly onto Salome once you find a sample you like. The only problem with drag and drop is that when you're dragging sometimes Apple's system thinks you want to delete the file, it's a bit stupid.

Anyway, drag and drop is most definitely useful which is why people want it and why Koala, Sitala etc all support it. It's not just some random request for the sake of it. What would be more useful of course would be if the files app allowed audio preview, but good luck waiting for apple to add that 😂

It isn’t the case that Files app has no preview capability. It can preview audio, the preview is clunky to use though.

True, I stand corrected. Yes, it’s too slow compared to something like Sample Crate

Might as well be no preview capability for the inconvienience of it and also the fact that it fades in the sample after the first time through the preview. total crap.

Agreed. The files apps “preview” is absolute crap.

Especially with if some app has already ‘hi-jacked’ the .wav file type (meaning it opens in some app instead of using the QuickLook preview when tapping on the file).

Yep also very frustrating. There are a decent handful of needed improvements to the iOS file system.

Also wish we had the ability to select which of the “open in” apps are on the list. Or a way to just show all apps that have open in compatibility and let us scroll or search them.

    Quick question:

Has anyone figured out how to turn on MPE (midi mono mode) for Salome in Logic Desktop? It works great on iOS, and I can see that it's receiving MPE on the device, but I can't seem to find the setting to get the MPE working. Thanks in advance!

  • New update is fantastic @brambos! Made a whole track just with Salome last night. This is a surprise outta nowhere hit that’s gonna end up being in my top apps of the year. Thanks for all you do 🙏

  • I like Salome a lot! Iuse it for drones (latch mode) or in combination with a LinnStrument.
And its very nice to have it on desktop too! Works fine for me in Ableton with OSX Sonoma (M1/M2). Does not not work with Big Sur (M1).

Yes, it needs Monterey or up. I’m still trying to figure out why Apple is letting us install it on Big Sur. The Mac Appstore is a bit of a mystery to me still.

    Do you have sample crate?

  • I’m supposed to be on an App buying moratorium, only breaking it for the upcoming ApeSoft sales. Then I see Gav’s video on Salome and… I think quitting cigarettes and drugs were a cakewalk compared to app addiction 😁 must…practice…self-control…deep breaths ….

  • After playing around with Salome when it first came out I thought it was great but did not really give me something that I didn't already have in some form on iOS so I got a refund. However, the update changed all that and I was about to repurchase until I discovered a couple more things that, for me, are crucial before buying again.

First, when you switch to the multiple keys layout and latch some keys, you can't switch back to the wave to make changes without undoing the latch. Also, when you latch multiple keys and you want to undo one or more of the latched keys, you can't tap again to undo one or more keys like you can with many other apps with latch/hold function. You have to unlatch everything and start again. Super annoying when you are trying to build a soundscape!

Am I missing something that will allow me to do this??

Seems otherwise like a great app with lots of potential for some great updates!!
