Baby Audio Transit for iOS is out

Baby Audio Transit has just been released for iOS

Baby Audio just released Transit for iOS, the plugin they developed with Andrew Huang. It’s available for both iPad and iPhone and is priced round $20 on intro sale - I don’t know how long that will last. It’s very cool, even if it would benefit from some features like being able to enter numerical values on certain knobs like the pitch shift, which can be hard to dial in accurately. I like the zoom view, where everything is lovely and big and easy to read. Here it is doing a gorgeous filtered and bitcrushed shifting delay on Virsyn Tera Pro (using the BrainZ IAP), with midi coming from Piano Motifs by Fernando Morales.

I will highly likely do a detailed spoken walkthrough on this on my YouTube channel some time in the next few days. It’s not just for transitions or EDM or whatever, as you can see and hear here: very definitely of interest to people like myself who are more into experimental music. For AUM users in particular, it has some features that make it super useful.

It’s very tasty indeed. Overall, I really like what I’ve seen of it so far, and they have really made an effort to get it working ok for iOS. In the full view, some of the little dots which are used to connect a given parameter to the transit knob or sequencer can be a little fiddly, but they added a zoom button to each fx slot (that little magnifying glass on the bottom right of each fx) which make it easy to press those things with fingers. Those little magnifying glasses are your friend for sure!

Is this a multi fx with automation? Lol. I’m used to reading swathes of text in the app description that don’t actually say what something is now so I wasn’t sure. Almost up there with watching YouTube videos of apps where no matter which point I skip to in the video I can just hear a man talking.

Had a quick Mashup in BAM with Transit. It’s fun.

If you midi learn the Big T knob of Transit inside BAM depending on the patch and on off settings BAM just goes crazy and learns everything it’s controlling being a multi effect so be careful!

Many attempts have been made making a good multi-effect and although some are good you tend to forget them pretty soon. With this one I don’t think that will be the case. Only time will tell, but, I think this one has the right ingredients to make it last.

I just bought a 2nd hand Midi Fighter Twister and am very much enjoying knob twisting with the MFT connected to params in plug ins on desktop . Possibly a dumb question but would I be able to assign my MFT knobs to parameters in this (on iOS)? Does it have midi learn?

Not sure whether it has midi learn, but you can assign the auv3 parameters so just use it in a host like aum and that won't be a problem.

I prefer other ppl report as I think they need to get community feedback. You can @tristan from baby audio here maybe, he's been active here recently. Yeah it doesn't seem to have any way to save your own presets in app, which is a pity. I don't mind too much as I often just use AUM's menu, but I know that will annoy some and it really is something that every app would have. Good to mention any bugs / missing features you find so that people can make an educated decision about purchases etc and so that baby audio can prioritise improvements and fixes

Yeah I did write to them. There are other functions missing from the top bar as well (quick guide, midi learn etc.) I guess some were intended to be replaced by that side bar as that one is not present in the desktop version (I think)

I've been playing with it on desktop for a couple weeks and it's good fun and works great as a multi-effect unit for much more than just transitions. Even has OTT built-in which is great.
If you apply in small doses, it works really well for saturation/distortion swells. Here's a little vid of me using it like that (I automated after):

Could be, there's some 'design choices' in the plug-in (both effects and the way the UI works) that me and my brain don't fully agree with but in the end it's their decisions that make the cut...

...at least we got the 'magnifying glass' on iOS because without it the whole plug-in would be a total pita to operate on an iPad with near impossible to accurately touch super microscopic touch zones
