Later on today I’ll summarize my full feedback of the release version of Transit and send if of @tristan
It might take an hour or two to dig thru everything but I will do it…

I’ll mainly be focusing on the over all usability and various UI quirks that still remain :sunglasses:

Weren't these picked during beta testing? Seems like you feel there are a lot of remaining quirks...

Don't be put off, it is superb!

For the most part it works quite well and in some cases there are temporary work-arounds.

But for me it’s quite annoying when I swipe-scroll a preset list and it insta-loads every preset I touch.

The work-around is to use the scroll bar but not too far to the right as it will close the preset browser…

I’m happy for the users who enjoy it as it is and I know things will only get better over time :sunglasses:

  • Psst, the value is HYPE. look at how BAM (nothing against the app, might even get it) has been in beta all this time and has 700+ comment$.

Weren't these picked during beta testing? Seems like you feel there are a lot of remaining quirks...it sort of makes me wonder about the real value of beta testing when it seems so many apps are released with what are perceived as issues (even by those who were involved in testing).

  • Issues might get reported but that doesn't automagically mean that everything gets fixed in an instant :sunglasses:

  • I was wrong about this app…other than a few little issues, I love it!
Now I’m gonna buy it on the Mac!

Because these aren’t really bugs, they are UI nice to haves IMO. So the developer has to prioritize what launch ready looks like versus future nice to have updates.

I know, for me personally it doesn't matter how good the DSP is if the touch-usability and visibility is so-so.

Having to use a mouse to scroll the preset-lists without accidentally selecting something is a big no-no on touch-first devices like the iPad and the iPhone, this is my highly personal opinion and others are free to disagree...

Right on. I think most would agree with that.

I agree with you. Pianoteq suffered greatly from this on release.

  • Can the Transit ‘T’ dial snap back to zero? I’m thinking if you were playing with it live as opposed to automated - you get it all whirling - and your new pattern is about to start. You want the effect to stop as soon as the next pattern starts. Can you zero it as a snap? Or do you have to dial it back manually?
Also if you can snap it to zero will the effect tails reman + is there an option to switch them off?

BA-1 is the same, it’s quite annoying. Every time you touch to scroll it selects. I guess it’s a fundamental problem with their UI code. Be nice if it was fixed.

    Really?

How does stuff like this get through their testing without being detected? Or the App Store testing?

That is the side-effect of directly porting apps that rely on a mouse for interaction with list-views in particular.
On a touch device the finger is both the ‘pointer and a mouse-click’ so a bit of care needs to taken.

Other ‘irks’ are that there is no way to delete saved presets other than deleting the apps…

I know @tristan will have a real blast reading the posts in this thread :sunglasses:

The App Store doesn’t dictate mundane UI decisions by developers. I suppose if there was something that made the app unusable, they might.

    Is it merely mundane?

How can you select a preset if you don't have a mouse? Most people don't have a mouse with their iPad.

You don’t need a mouse. You just select the preset icon and then touch the preset you want to choose. This is being overblown IMO

    OK.

Can you use your finger to scroll to the preset you want? (I don't have the app to do a test).

Most effects in Transit don’t have enough presets to even need to scroll. In fact it is only Distortion and Pitch Shift that require scrolling so you have to use the scroll bar first then select your preset.

Look, I’m not saying it’s great. It is very fiddly and a hangover from the desktop port as stated above. But it doesn’t stop you using the app or selecting a preset. I hope they make it easier as well but in no way would it put me off using the app.

    Right.

Still not sure if I will get this app or not. Good to have feedback from existing users. Thank you.

  • At first I wasn't sure if I have a use for the main purpose of this app. But finding out how well it works as a multi-effect, it's actually quiet good.
Guessing it would also be good for small switch ups and transitions for hip hop music, and I'll find that out next.

There isn't a way to auto-snap back to zero, but that's actually an interesting suggestion. I'll have to note that down. I can see this being useful on stage or sure. And yes, you can use the "tails" function to either enable or disable the reverb and delay tails once the Transition control is brought down to zero.

We are missing a few functionalities like MIDI learn and preset saving within Transit itself, but we figured this can be done in most if not all AUv3 hosts. Is there a reason you'd rather do these things within the plugin?

A lot of us use more than one host. I use Loopy Pro, Cubasis, and Drambo pretty regularly, and it’s nice having access to the same user presets in all of them. Also if we’d like to share our Transit patches with other users, we’re out of luck without internal patch saving.

Regardless, Transit is amazing! Thank you so much for bringing it to iOS!

It can also be done in any DAW on desktop, I dare you to try with your next release (whatever that might be) for that platform to omit Midi Learn and preset handling etc with those word: "we figured this can be done in most if not all AUv3 hosts DAW's. I find it rather provoking but maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

No I think that is a totally fair point and I also had the same thought

  • It would be great if developers also added host preset sharing for the AUv3, I don’t know of many plugins that do yet or that if any other hosts support it other than AUM, but it’s useful so that you can save host presets and they sync across different hosts. It’s probably much easier to add than a built in browser from the plugin and then people can nag the other hosts to add that feature. :)
