  • had so much fun with this on iOS that i'm grabbing it for my desktop too, it's very useful for a range of things!

We are missing a few functionalities like MIDI learn and preset saving within Transit itself, but we figured this can be done in most if not all AUv3 hosts. Is there a reason you'd rather do these things within the plugin?

A lot of us use more than one host. I use Loopy Pro, Cubasis, and Drambo pretty regularly, and it’s nice having access to the same user presets in all of them. Also if we’d like to share our Transit patches with other users, we’re out of luck without internal patch saving.

Regardless, Transit is amazing! Thank you so much for bringing it to iOS!

It can also be done in any DAW on desktop, I dare you to try with your next release (whatever that might be) for that platform to omit Midi Learn and preset handling etc with those word: "we figured this can be done in most if not all AUv3 hosts DAW's. Is there a reason you'd rather do these things within the plugin?
I find it rather provoking but maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

No I think that is a totally fair point and I also had the same thought

    +1 well said.

Yes, I like this app, but these features - user presets within the app, midi learn - are quite basic. I expect basic functions to sometimes be missing from free or very cheap apps - I can roll with it. This wasn’t cheap by iOS standards - why is trying to get basic functionality like pulling teeth?

  • Is there a way to use different presets (at different times) on the same track, through automation? For instance, in Drambo, I want to use Transition1 early in a song on the drum track, then use Transition2 later on the song on that same drum track.

One workaround is to add Transit in multiple FX slots on that track and have the automation enable the first instance of Transit at first, then disable it, and then enable the second one. Kinda works but a bit clunky and not great if you have limited fx slots like in some groove boxes.

    Thanks!

@tristan It would be awesome to have midi automation be able to trigger different numbered preset slots in Transit. Can you make it so? One instance of Transit would suddenly become many more times powerful and also help reduce clutter.

  • ...and the ability to save your own presets, for crying out loud.

This is achievable in loopy pro, however I think it may be unique to how loopy pro handles plugins:
shameless plug: (@6:25 & @18:40 are examples of using two different presets from the same instance)

In the video the orange knob is mapped to four presets of one instance on the master and the green button above is mapped to "sequencer start."

That being said, I've emailed them directly, and the sequencer bar length is not mappable (which is absolutely baffling). And I see the points about not being able to save presets directly in the app itself which seems to be another extremely weird omission.

  • Does anyone else have a problem with the sharing presets between computer and iOS? I get this pop up on the IOS but on my MacBook, pressing e doesn't do anything.

  • @Tristan help please.

  • @Calverhall i sent my presets as a zip file and then imported each folder individually (you can Select All the preset files from inside each folder). a bit more labour involved, but it works

Cheers for letting me know your way of doing it but I just want to know about the way Baby Audio suggests how to do it. I was wondering whether its because the MacBook version is a AUv2 or a VST3 etc makes a difference.

Have you written to them? Here's not the place for solving their bugs, well not the best one anyway.

  • I have Baby Audio Transit on desktop and am thinking about picking it up on iOS but the reviews from 6 months ago seem to suggest issues with preset saving and use in various DAWs. Have these flaws been resolved? Anyone using it successfully in Cubasis 3 and/or ZenBeats? Thanks!

It certainly seems like a useful production tool, but I still like to attempt to create my own transitions, as ridiculous as that might seem these days. If I get stuck on something, I'll just think about it more.

I actually mostly use it as a general multi-fx unit and it's pretty great for that too. I put it on every instrument track in my jam template just to have all the options.

Nothing wrong with that. The goal of any piece of recorded music is to achieve a listenable final result and if it helps, it helps.

  • I just read that this might be a whole new app and not an update to the existing app? If so...hmmm...seems a bit soon, no?

November of last year, so not quite yet. They also never added the ability to save presets which was a bit of a glaring omission and something that we had hoped they were going to add in an update...

Yeah, this particular issue @Tristan and Baby Audio has handled awfully bad. The latest turn that made me REAL HAPPY was when Tristan promised in the sales thread when one of the other apps got an overhaul of the preset system, that soon, Transit for iOS would get the same fix(!!) It has been several months since that promise. (*I don't remember the exact wordings but the post should be there if I need defending😅)

Therefor I'm not sure what to think about this new Transit. Every release they have done since Transit and I get the newsletter, I think: "Fix Transit for iOS Instead!!"

(Transit V 1 is really, really good but, I hardly use it because of this issue with the presets, it's important to me to be able to do and save/export/ my own.)

$99.00 US at Sweetwater for the upgrade on desktop (and a new color scheme I'm not fond of). I like v1 ok, I haven't used it as much as I thought I would but it's good. I won't pay $99.00 for an upgrade though, I bought it for $79.00.

Edit: Apparently the Sweetwater page is misleading, I read on another site there will be a $29.00 upgrade path for desktop users.

Right, and it could have been when BAs update was happening he mentioned that Transit should get the overhaul too. If I remember correct the new system BA got did not (still?) work flawlessly.

It's not a very good look when their iOS products gets so obvious low priority.

  • Im hoping for a MIDI out module to have assign to external things... is this in the this version or should I get requesting?

yes, it's on Plugin Boutique (if you bought v1 there) or $29 as an upgrade at Baby Audio if you fill in your v1 license key, seems to do a whole lot more now (and I haven't even used v1 yet ;) but will upgrade anyway)

Really sorry for the late reply, I've missed a few of the questions in this thread. It's been hectic here as you can probably see from our release activity !

    But here's an update:
We still haven't decided on how we'll plan the Transit 2 iOS launch (whether it will be a new App or an update). We're going to look at this very shortly. (We also have Atoms to put out and it's coming VERY SOON -- we're really excited for that)... But for Transit: In any case we WILL ensure that current owners of the Transit App gets the new preset navigation system, whether as an update to Transit V1 or as a full V2 update.
Please accept our apologies for the delays here but we're a small dev team and we service something like 100 desktop users for every 1 iOS user. It's never that we want to de-prioritize the platform - and we're so excited to continue improving our iOS presence - it's just that we sometimes are short on resources with everything we want and need to get done. We will get there in the end and genuinely appreciate all your enthusiasm and support!

One way you can give “upgrade” pricing in the App Store is to make a bundle of the old app and the new one. The only caveat is that it won’t work for users who bought the older app as part of a bundle, because only the first bundle will be valid.
