At least you also got a nice gear porn photo out of it!
@raabje
Are you sure you’re not mixing it up with the recently released K.O. II? That is the one that looks like a calculator. The OP1F may be overpriced but calling it an oversized calculator seems a tad harsh and inaccurate, lol
DC - just get the OP-1F. It has a good resale value, so if you don’t bond with it you can always sell it for not a huge loss.
Thank you Tarekith. (You had me sold on it with that one video you did, and your song that everyone should check out.)
Take your wife and whomever you care about and go on a lush holiday. Take your iPad with you, make some experiences, make some music. That’s my angle.
You’re a jealous clown. That’s all I got from your crediblity.
The same can be done for you. I've noticed nothing of real value added from you to this forum. You don't even post in the Creations section, so what credibility as a musician do you have around here? What positivity do you actually add to this community? What help do you give to your fellow iOS musicians?
Quite frankly if you want to be snide, aggressive and antagonistic, take up residency at one of the toxic music forums full of your sort like Gear Space, KVR, Dubstep Forums, etc. We don't need your sort here!
Thanks Dom: after this guy^ I could use it lol
+1
@dreamcartel
My Op-1f is my second favorite musical purchase ever (after my guitar) but my worry would be that you have built it up in your mind. I would be seriously afraid of buyer's remorse just because of how much you hope it will be perfect. It's not perfect, it has quirks, a few bugs, and quite a few limitations. Just know going in it is not the jewel of the synth world, it's just a very cool synth/sampler/recorder. Our music is still the same as before the Op-1f arrived .
But if you do get one, same @jwmmakerofmusic, post here and I'll be happy to share some sampled instruments I've made, a nice felt piano and some tron strings etc.
Thanks mate. Much appreciated. What kind of bugs does the OP-1 Field have mate? (I don't recall seeing bugs reported in any workflow videos I watched, so this would definitely be helpful info.)
Woah @zah got banned?
Yes, Thank you. I would definitely love that. @abf
and the 99% of you positive members out there that helped, thank you and don’t worry : I’m not disillusioned by either the haters or Gung-ho fans. I called it the “synth DAW jewel” but that is indeed my own interpretation and exaggeration. The sequencers are limited, midi is somewhat limited, 4 tracks, no undo , etc… I’ve accounted for what seemed to be scary surprises if you didn’t know about before getting the unit
This was an informed decision I didn’t make lightly. Tarekith actually was patient and generous with his time and since he is one of the most talented individuals who actually owns both opz and op1F, I hold his critique and opinion extremely high. I was going for either TE OP and while I still kind of prefer the idea of the op-z and some of its functions, I’m looking to make full tracks and I think the 25 key velocity keyboard is going to make me happier after playing the mini keyboard of my s-1. Also I made the decision because the opz has a lot of “bug reports” whereas I rarely see issues with the field in comparison, and it seems the issues with the TE are usually solved quickly the op1F whereas the opz some people were on 3 or 4 replacement units (to Jwm question if there are issues please let us know what yours were)
Just like a guitar no instrument is perfect. One guitar sounds like this; another guitar may be capable of incredible tremolo tricks, but you have to try different guitars to see which one fits. Sometimes you’ll sell one, sometimes you’ll modify one and you’ll change which you play depending on your mood. I really won’t know until it’s in my hands unfortunately, and even then it would take days to see if it is a fit; And to go back to Tarekith point , if it turns out that I can’t operate the machine, the resale won’t be difficult…
Thanks for all your kind words, and non judgmental replies regardless of how you feel about the product. This was a very fruitful topic even if some tried to ruin it
If you’re looking for other recommendations @dreamcartel id be remiss if I didn’t mention the Octatrack. It’s still on my list as well.
Sometimes if you load a file into the drum sampler and slice it there can be a little click at the end of some slices. It's easy to set the slice in and out points, but if there is audio in between drum hits, like reverb tails for instance, there is no way to fade it out properly. But someone here posted that possibly the next update will contain something for the drum sampler, I'm hoping there will be a fix for the clicks.
I've also gotten a little click at the edge of a piece of tape I've dropped, that's less common but I wish there was a crossfade option in the tape machines. It doesn't happen all the time, even on busy tracks, so I'm not sure what is going on there. I'd like to be able to choose a crossfade value for edits, like in Logic I have it set to always crossfade two pieces of audio by 2ms to avoid any clicks. Crossfades would be in keeping with the tape paradigm as it's proper to edit tape by cutting on a bias.
True, there are no fades at all in the OP-1F, which can be annoying at times. Sometimes you can mask it with other sounds, but not always. Would be pretty cool if they implemented short fades by default, or at least the option to.
Also, just want to mention that op-forums.com is a nice space with loads of good information. There are many relevant posts at both the Op-1 and Op-1field forums.
No. Any guitar is perfect, by definition.
Some are just more perfecter than others.
I'm not at all surprised. Right, it's one thing to criticise/make fun of a piece of gear/a company/etc. That's fair game. But outright personally insulting someone? That's a surefire way to get a ban, and I'm not surprised it happened.
Ah, just clicks and pops. Hopefully there will be a crossfade update for the drum sampler, but at least it won't take me by surprise. Thanks for letting us know mate.
Woah indeed.
Moral of the story: when a Forum member asks "do I suck" it is probably better not to answer anything.
OP-1 lacks an undo button. You better be good at getting things right the first time!
.
Fwiw dude, he called me a greedy —-, criticized me as a father and Then as a musician, and also a —— . Call me crazy but I think that’s like multiple forum rules not to break. The post was removed but I don’t feel it was improper , never having interacted or spoken to him in my life and all ofc
Ah, ok.
I didn't see it.
Screw the keyboard - just give me that view!
Me either. I didn't see it either and I'm glad I didn't.
I trust the forum moderators to make good calls. I was just surprised to discover it when I went to their comments to see what the criticisms were about.
People get banned here?!?
If you go far over the line and attack people, yes. Just like you can get booted from the pub.
Rare but, yes, people get banned here.
Ahhhh that freakin view bro…wow, I’ll eat a weak ass breakfast as long as the coffee is strong!
The mc707 was decent!
The sampler sounds HOT, it roughs up the sound a tiny bit (i liked that about it actually, but not everyone will)
The amount of Roland sounds it has in it is immense…it’s a scrollers wet dream
8 tracks is a fair amount and the 808 sequencing is nice
As is the probability and the editor for the granular effect scatter thing is kinda great.
What I didn’t like…
The tiny screen, the menu diving, the lack of an editor, no metronome (when I had it), the chain song mode isn’t my favorite…
Editing a sample was surprisingly ok (not great) but better than it should be on that little screen.
Over all it sounded great, and it was a nice lap dog.
I sold it to buy a Fantom 6 (now EX) I miss it a time or two a month.
I had it and an MPC Live and made multitudes of mega trashy songs and sequences hahahaha
