I sure am. Taking a while to figure things out, but in a good way. I want to take my time with my OP-1 Field rather than rush things.
Exactly! This is so inspiring! I can imagine once I get the hang of it, I can then start on Ambient in the OP-1 Field first, and then see where else I can go with it. ^_^
Absolutely. I shall do all that. I do think creatively, so the OP-1 Field feels so much like an extension of musical myself (if that makes any sense).
Thanks a lot. Lot's more B&W landscape stuff here: https://tarekith.com/photography/
I have to say, I am so happy this thread derailed positively and kind of reinvented itself organically .
We had some great discussion, and then some beautiful photography along with an awesome, real time landing to a genuinely good dude/a forum MVP (most valuable producers)
I’m renaming this how negative criticism can affect positive change
I didn't read this entire post.
Let me see if I got the gist of it.
You want something that's sort of expensive, but still within your means.
You really want this particular item, and you know you will regret settling for something else.
You are also worried that you are not worthy.
The answer is simple.
You are worthy.
Go for it!
As John Maynard Keynes said - Live for the short run, because in the long run we're all dead.
Essential quote
@jwmmakerofmusic congrats my friend ❤️ that’s the face of a happy owner right there! I know you’re gonna love it.
Thanks Paulie
You mentioned Maynard along with that wonderful breakdown - let me say this; you’ll see another pic like that come soon after new years . “It will be mine: oh yes, it will be mine” - Waynes world
Thank you mate! ☺️
True words of wisdom to live by!
If anybody has a problem with that, just quote the Spartan king… Come and take it!
A good video about the OP-1 Field that is well-balanced, talking about some of the upsides and downsides while he also demonstrates how he uses his OP-1 Field. And it doesn't come off as some kind of "influencer video" like Anderton's Synths, Key and Tech. 😂 (The less said about Anderton, the better.)
I only read the thread at the beginning. @jwmmakerofmusic is getting the OP-1 Fields ?
So I guess @dreamcartel finally decided to give away the OP rather then keeping it.
No, @dreamcartel was debating on getting it and detailing the convo with his wife about it, and Jim mentioned he was getting one as well and was just sharing that it finally arrived in the mail
I like my version better 😤
Haha we are all the writers of our own destiny 🫡
He sure is, ROFL!
Nah fam, he's going to get his soon. @HotStrange is the one who decided to not get the OP-1 Field after giving away his OG OP-1, lol.
Pls don’t remind me 😫
Think I may be physically attracted to that screen holy shit 🤩
I will still probably get it eventually, just not on a rush is all 😉
Lol!
Okay bro, sounds like you and your wife need couple's counselling. 😂
Mmm hmm, sure, yeah, lol. (I'm just joshing you mate of course.)
😂😂😂 if I buy the Field this week we will definitely need counseling lmao
Now this coming spring is a different story 🌞
@HotStrange next time you have this feeling of giving away expensive gear. I Volunteer to take it of your hands. 😝
Oh man, just gotta get through the Winter first. Some pro tips by the way - you'll need a USB-C to USB cord, some manner of laptop/desktop computer for file management and Dropbox (or any cloud storage) access (just financed a cheaper Windows one through Amazon, it arrives tomorrow), a pair of wired headphones (or a Bluetooth/wired headphone hybrid), and a protective case.
Hehehe, lol. I'm sure he can strike a deal with you for a proper fee.
I Fixed your last word
Lol! Well, @HotStrange I'm sure will quote you the right price. 😏
Proper free 😂😂😂😂 nice try 😉
Have all already except the laptop, even still have my old op-1 case as long as it’s the same dimensions.
That said, with my old op-1 I never even attempted to access the files. I just sampled directly into it over usb, so that wouldn’t be a huge rush for me. You can even update the firmware with an ipad. Or on the original you could anyway. I’ll probably mostly keep that same workflow and just save up additionally for a computer down the road.
@echoopera confirmed that I won't be able to access files on the Field via the iPad at all (so I'm not sure how firmware updates would work via the iPad). The Windows laptop I financed is normally a $1100 laptop, but was on sale for $315. 512gb internal storage (more than enough storage for managing files from and to the OP-1 Field, such as stems, drums, etc) and 12gb ram (which is far more than I'll ever need for simple file management). Not sure if it has a USB-C port, but it has a regular USB port. I have the USB-C to USB cables on the way as we speak for simple charging and for connecting to the laptop.
The reason I went with Windows is it seems I don't need a utility (like on a Mac) to access the files. Just connect the OP-1 Field, pop it into disc mode, and voila. File access.
Those who don’t try never get the Ops - - Ecou
Gotcha. I remember reading they did leave that part out of this one. Maybe it’ll come in a firmware update later on down the road. Ah well, connecting to someone’s desktop for updates occasionally won’t be a big deal (and the wife will probably have her gaming computer done by then anyway). As for the files, I never used that with the original OP-1 and being able to send audio over usb means there’s a work around.
My main use case is/was sampling all my weird iOS synths into the OP-1 or using the super cool sequencers for my iOS synths and vice versa. It’s amazing for that.
This is super true! OP-1 Field can send and receive MIDI. But for my first EP with it, the only time I'll use iOS is to record direct from the OP-1 Field into Logic Pro and master each track with Mastering Assistant. It'll be my "learning EP".
What he said in his video is good advice for recording on any gear, be it an iPhone or an OP1F.
