What don't you understand? Do you not see how stupid it is to be unsure that anyone would want the MPE touch keyboard from the creators of Animoog? Do they think AUv3 is just like plugins on computer? As I said they don't even cover iPad on their support ticket. (I did fill it in but the fact it was all geared towards windows/Mac just made me cross again.)

Animoog is why I got an iPad in the first place all those years ago, they were also the reason I forked out to upgrade to an iPad Pro when Model 15 came out and it was an impeccable product. Non of these issues, they got the platform completely.

But things have changed. Are you aware that Moog have been acquired by inMusic and had to make massive cut backs and layoffs? Mariana may have even been started by a different team that have brought it to market.

AUv3 has not been a smooth transition for Moog regardless. The Model 15 transition wasn't smooth, but they got there in the end. They had to remake Animoog completely. The Mac compatibility is so under developed, Animoog Z has just been plonked in without any thought about how an iPad app with an MPE keyboard was going to operate on Mac. Maybe it works better on Bigwig or another DAW, I only use Ableton on Mac but so far I've found it lacking without the MPE of the iPad app.

It's generally disappointing and distressing seeing one of electronic musical instrument greats falling from grace. I really hope inMusic will get them somewhere good again but they are a mess right now. Mariana sounds absolutely fantastic and I'm sorry if I'm being a downer on you, as I say I don't usually moan on this forum but this really triggered me because I love Moog and I want them to get this right. Really hope they find stability and take iPad apps and AUv3 seriously going forward.

Wow I wasn’t aware! I just crawled out from the rock I live under so thank you so much for condescendingly explaining that to me 😃

Lol no reason to get so worked up. I said in my comment you’re replying to that it should’ve been there from the start so clearly I’m not against the idea. The thing I didn’t understand was protesting getting their other apps because of it when it’s been confirmed it’s coming in an update and also letting it distress you to that point.

But seems Moog has replied to you now to indeed confirm so hopefully all is well.

Protesting? You mean holding back on getting the MoogerFoogers?

As for the condescension, yeah I well got triggered by your needless goading and the fact that the Moog site support ticket didn't even include iPadOS/iOS which just made me go all gaaaah! (Not literally, just on my keyboard. Internal rage expressed through clickity clack.)

Let's start over. Hi HotStrange, I enjoyed your video with rottencat

I love Moog iPad apps, my frustration and distress comes from the recent issues with their apps plus anxiety over the inMusic takeover. I'm still not getting MoogerFooger apps, not just because of this mistep but generally not sure it's worth it right now for my older iPad Pro.

Maybe protesting isn’t the right word but surely you can see how it come across that way given the context of your comment? Don’t think I was needless goading I just genuinely didn’t understand the hostility or if I was missing something.

Things are definitely changing there with the inMusic takeover but imo they’re still really killing it on iOS. The keyboard thing is definitely an oversight considering how integral it is to the synth itself, but since it’s being added I’m not super torn about it - personally - since they’ve delivered in basically most other areas.

I have the 2022 Air thought so I can’t comment as to how well it’ll run on older devices. How old is it?

Also thank you for the compliment! Have you posted any music I can check out? (And if not consider posting some in the creations section I love hearing other peoples music).

Long story short, new music coming this year, but I've just moved town so a little preoccupied. But in terms of iOS music I did this track. Recorded live with AUM, mixed in Ableton.

Here's the quote from Moog earlier in the thread so they already know people want it....

We're working on several things for a future update:

    • a collapsible/expandable keyboard for the plugin version, thanks for asking for it, we weren't sure if people would want it or not

    >

Seriously? They didn't think a touch keyboard would be wanted on a touch interface?

No wonder there have been so many issues with their AUv3s. I'm referring more to the Mac versions when used in Ableton, Animoog Z is a mess.
That Support ticket thing doesn't even acknowledge iPads.
I really hope they get their act together, Moog obviously are going through a lot of things with the take over and such. I was wanting to get the MoogerFooger plug ins but I think I'll hold off on them for now.
I usually hate seeing people moaning about apps on forums but Moog were genuine iOS pioneers, it's distressing seeing where things are at with them right now.

We are still the same small team of people making the iOS apps and now macOS and Windows apps. We've received no reports about our AUv3s having issues that were not due to 3rd party DAW support or integration. When possible, we've worked around this in the products. Just talk to us, we love what we do and try to make the best possible products within an ever evolving ecosystem and technology stack.

Since most AUv3 DAWs have their own built-in keyboard and many DAWs have trouble recording MIDI coming from an AUv3 instrument plugin, we thought we'd save people screen estate by not including the keyboard, since we've received complaints about this in other products. We have an update for Mariana almost ready to go, including many other feature additions and improvements, it's going through the final stages of QA right now. We think you'll love this update.

Mariana standalone has a touch keyboard that is perfectly capable of expressing MPE and has been specifically implemented with Animoog's keyboard as a guide.

  • Hi everyone,

Mariana v1.1.0 is now available and propagating through the App Store.

    These are the release notes:

    • Performance improvements.
    • The keyboard can now be expanded and collapsed in the plugin versions, as well as in the standalone desktop version of Mariana.
    • The Low Pass and High Pass Filter of Synth 1 and Synth 2 now have an option to change filter slope to 0dB, 6dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB.
    • 45 newly designed presets using the new filter slopes with the group name “Moog 1.1".
    • Improved saw and sharktooth wave shapes in the oscillators to remove aliasing at certain duty cycle settings.
    • Edited preset notes and tags are now directly saved to the current user preset without requiring an explicit preset save.
    • The plugin size of Mariana is now stored and recalled from DAW sessions.
    • Standalone window was not resizable right after software unlock. Fixed.
    • Preset tags were not saved to exported/shared presets. Fixed.
    • Right after software unlock succeeds, save as was not enabled. Fixed
    • Mod amount rings in modulation summary would sometimes not update. Fixed.
    • Sharing presets on Windows could delete temporary files that didn't belong to Mariana. Fixed.
    • Swapping Synth 1 and 2 did not swap panel modulation assignments. Fixed.
    • Upon plugin instantiation Mariana could crash on some machines while performing the software unlock licensing. Fixed.
    • Clicking on Init while previewing presets would play a random preset preview. Fixed.

Thanks for your patience over the holidays while waiting for some of the improvements in this release. We hope you like all the other features and improvements we also included.

    ❤️ your friends at Moog

@MoogMusicInc Performance seems to have improved somewhat — thanks. And the keyboard is a godsend. But for me, Mariana still asks for twice the DSP % (20-30%) of Model 15 (10-13%) while idle, on a 512 frame buffer. And some of my other virtual analogues sit at 3-5% in an idle state. I know that DSP load is not equivalent to “total possible” CPU usage, but for me it’s usually a sign that crackles are probably around the corner. My iPad isn’t a very recent one, but it is a 2020 12.9” iPad Pro, so isn’t exactly a slouch, either.

Is this a case for more optimisation, or is there an important reason why this should be the case? (Genuine question. I mean, is it to do with how you’re modelling circuits for extra lusciousness?)

Mariana's core architecture is at least two Model 15s, but on top of that there's extra effects, metering, very extensive modulation, virtual CV, ... so that explains the difference in your comparison. It's actually pretty efficient if you look at it from that angle.

Yes, our DSP purposefully doesn't cut any corners and has real-time, continuously changing and interacting analog behavior throughout all the modules. We think it makes a significant difference to the organic nature of the sound and will always put that first.

Okay then, that makes a lot of sense — good explanation.

Many years ago I messaged your team about considering having a separate AUv3 for just the Animoog keyboard (think this was around Model 15 getting the AUv3 treatment.) Perhaps you could do what apeSoft did with their iVCS3 AUv3 where they split the app into separate modules. I can't pretend I know this would be easy, it's just an idea.

We don't comment on unreleased products or future plans, but a standalone Animoog keyboard has definitely been on the list of possible projects for a long time. We have to carefully pick and choose what we spend our time on since we are a small team with limited resources. We'll keep considering your suggestion each time we need to make that choice though, so who knows ...

  • Recommend using it with the multithreaded hosts e.g I use miRack or Multitrackstudio if I want to use more than one instance since my iPad is pretty old now (2017), but with multithreading I can run twice as many plugins.

Long story short, new music coming this year, but I've just moved town so a little preoccupied. But in terms of iOS music I did this track. Recorded live with AUM, mixed in Ableton.

Oh, of course — running off to meet Logic for a quick tryst. (Logic does multi threading… right?)

  • Okay, it’s been a few weeks since I made a track in Logic, so besides the aggravation of constantly exiting to the File Browser by accident, I can report that I only had to start freezing tracks when I reached 9 instances of Mariana. Coming from AUM (which I prefer as a creative environment), that seems almost unthinkable. Thanks @Carnbot 🎉

  • The was quick @MoogMusicInc ! Thank you for the update with the AU keyboard!

We hear you, but sadly it's not possible to target specific iPhone sizes with app releases. Mariana could potential be useable on the biggest iPhones, but as soon as we release for those, we have to support down to the smallest size too and that would require a complete re-design to be useable.

Case in point, Model D's UI has been optimized and implemented for each individual iPhone size, which is how we know how much work it is to do this right. Mariana's UI is magnitudes more complex, making this an effort that we couldn't justify with the limited resources we have.
