  • It sounds great and is so much fun.

For those new to space echo. Put the Intensity to max and Repeat rate to 50%. Play a note and it should start self oscillating the play with the Repeat rate for hours. 😆

when you can get your hands on a original unit, or another good analog gear, see what happens when you push them hard.
that's still something very hard to get on spot itb.

Finding them is hard, but apparently it’s just as hard to find the right kind of tape to replace worn tape if you already have one.

Soundgas is your (very expensive) friend, not to mention the incredible Echo Fix in Australia

Echofix is pretty expensive for some things but I have used them a lot over the years for repairs.

Soundgas is very expensive and only for celebrities. 😆

They used to be relatively inexpensive (their space echoes were around 800-900 quid when they started out) but yeah since they started getting attention it’s got ridiculous

  • Messing around with the amazing Outer Space.

  • It doesn’t look like it from the interface, but for those who have this… does Outer Space, when in standalone mode, record and export recorded loops like RE1 does?

    No it doesn’t do that

This is really nice man. Ritchie Hawtin vibes. What was that Arturia synth?

  • Moneys still tight from the holidays and house payment is about to be due but man I want this one 😅 still might have to wait until next week though. Seems like everyone is enjoying it which is great, though it’s not helping my wallet lol

  • Couldn’t wait until next week and went ahead and got it. Super excited to dive in 😎

  • I got Outer Space and I’m liking it.
As for the comparison with RE1… I’m not going to get into sound quality as that is pretty much subjective, I can say that Outer Space has more options and control. The “tape kind” setting, preamp, soft-clip, etc provide a lot more control. And specially the inclusion of the reverb which sounds great.

I do have a question regarding the “Repeat Rate” control. I read the manual but can’t make sense of the relationship between Repeat Rate and the tape head time controls.

They seem to be exclusive, ie, if you move the Repeat Rate knob whatever time you had set on the tape head time number is replaced… Is this the case?.
I’m guessing that repeat rate is the feature of the original unit and the tape head time thing was added to the app… How are you nice people setting the delay tines in this thing?.

I think in the original RE-201 the play heads were at specific distances from each others and the repeat rate controlled the tape speed ie repeat time for all heads at once, each according to its distance. In the plugin you can control the distance of each play head and the global repeat rate. So essentially the individual head controls are the ratio of each play head to the global repeat control. This implementation is actually very very useful.

This makes sense, thank u for a great explanation! 🙌
So the first tape head number always corresponds to the Repeat Rate value, then heads 2 & 3 will vary in the ratio set.
Easier to see if using sync… you set Reoeat Rate all the way left to 2 bars. Head2 to 1 bar and Head3 to1/2. Now you set repeat rate to 1 bar… Head2 should be moved to 1/2 and Head3 to 1/4. And sort of are… except they are set to dotted values?. (1/2D and 1/4D) . Why dotted?.

You’re right. It seems to move the play heads along the sync options as opposed to straightforward clock division which is forced in hardware.

I never used RE-1 all that often to begin with but for me I’d say definitely. RE-1 isn’t bad at all but this app is absolutely fantastic. I would certainly recommend it if you’re considering it. Especially on intro price.

  • So nice to have it on ios now ❤️… I bought a faderfox EC4 now to transform my 2nd ipad into a „hardware fx“ to use it on my mixer sends. I can definitely sell the Boss RE-202 pedal now. It doesńt sound bad but especially the feedback is way too static (easier to control though) and ím missing some“noise“ options.

I had the space echoes bigger brother (RE-301) back in the days and there is almost nothing i regret more selling it (i needed the money 😩)

If i had ONE free wish, i would ask for the sound on sound function which is on the bigger REś but not in the 201.

I honestly don’t know, I didn’t even know RE1 was based on the Space Echo… Likemi said this one has a lot more control over sound and the reverb is great. But I do find RE1 easier to dial in and it’s got different features, like the auto pan movement which is great, or the looper…
I haven’t answered your question, but just get this one, it sounds great. Maybe RE1 for more straightforward stuff and this one to get spacey.

    I’ll ditto this.

RE-1 isn’t something I used much as I just don’t feel that it gave me anything new. However, a couple of days with Outer Space and I know I’m going to use this a lot.

Yeah and from what I gather from friends and other musicians, the desktop one is widely consider to be one of the best classic effect emulations out there period. And now it’s on iOS!

I picked up Outer Space. It is nice. I will certainly use it but it definitely won’t displace RE1 for me. Unless I am overlooking some controls, Outer Space is limited to delay times under 500ms. I often use longer delay times.

As with so much, a lot comes down to personal preference.

  • whenever I have tried to use RE-1 lately i get this
