Siemano Allegro used to be pretty good, but it was at least a decade ago.
Digitakt on the secondhand market now around 500€ in western Europe, but I think it's mostly because many people still don't know it's obsolete.
First impression after a half an hour with the Digitakt II
It is a beast. It is more complex than OG Digi by a far away. The workflow is there, the sound is there but it is more deep than the OG.
I f**** love it.
Yeah, I'm limited in how much I can focus on it for a couple weeks, but ran through it some last night and it's amazing. That comb filter is sick and easy to dial in a great sound. Still figuring out the different UI becasue my muscle memory is now broken, but that'll come in time. 16 tracks is a lot to keep track of on a single box, but its a wonderful problem to have. Workflow has been enhanced and seems more cohesive and I can pickup on almost everything without going to the manual.
Sidechaining is a godsend.
Spend today with it hour just noodling with stock samples and holy fuck. They did it, legend lives. Digitakt is dead, lonh live Digitakt II. UI improvements are absolutely major, it’s now MUCH MUCH better, nicely solidated to more intuitive structures.
16 channels is really major thing, third LFO is super handy, new filters sounds great and yeah, sidechain ability to skip selected tracks from being sidechained is gamechanger
Cannot be more happy. It’s beast. It has eversthing i ever missed in DT. Perfect groovebox. I even can’t imagine what they may add in future updates - there is nothing to add 🤣😂
One note bellow line - now, with this major UI rebuild, i am not sure it will be comfortable to use Digitone with Digitakt 2 for jamming, cause lot of key combos are very different on DT2, also many menus have a bit different structure… Well see, but i amma bit afraif my production now splits to DT2 only and DN only .. or worst case DN may even go away ..
We definitely nwed major DN/ST UI update or DN2 and ST2 :-)))
Friend of mine told me he opened DT, DT2, DN and ST cases - and in DT there was one main chip, in DN/ST/DT2 are 2 of those chips .. This means DN/ST has same CPU power like DT2 which makes me hope we may see many improvements from DT2 ported to DN and ST in next months / years… 🤞
Looking forward to getting a DT2 myself, looks like a killer upgrade.
Yeah, but in five years you'll all be chasing that ineffable OG Digitakt essence. (I say this as someone who has just returned to the Digitakt and doesn't have $1,000 to spend but would really like to!)
@ExAsperis99 RU sure? It's like op1 vs op1 field. If I would have the $ I would just go for the field and not look back.
It will not be too long until videos will start dropping about the overlooked and underrated OG Digitakt. And how that mono really makes a difference for those punchy drums. 😅
Perhaps we can already make some future second hand price predictions…
I'm really just joking, although I have read some comments that the new Digitakt lacks the warmth (!) of the original. I don't really push my Digitakt to its limits as it is. Plus I'm intrigued by the sympathetic secondary market for Octatrack and Analog 4 units, which doesn't totally make sense, unless people are reasoning that the Digitakt 2 can somehow replace those units?
But if I have $1000 lying around, I'll probably replace my 2017 iPad Pro with something faster when the new iPads drop next week.
OG seems to still be a capable machine but x16 stereo tracks on MK2... Boy, that can get you goin.
All I can say to that is that they recently re-released the SP-1200 (originally released in 1987) for around 4k and it’s seems to be selling like hot cakes 😅
I think it's because some people are sentimental? These devices don't really appeal to me, so I am trying to understand why people buy them. Isla Instruments also has something from this category.
Digitakt 1 seems to be a good collectors item now
DT1 does everything I need it to do, except the extra sidechain features in the compressor that DTII is blessed with. If I were more into samples I’d buy it. I’m looking at Digitone to get some awesome updates now. Or the AK/A4.
lol that's just absolute bullshit 🤣😂 it has even pretty bood modelled overdrive on master, somit can sound actually at some level even more "warm" than OG 🤣
But i think there is one reason why it makes sense (in my opinion) to keep Digitakt OG - in case you use it together with Digitone and/or Syntakt.. it's because they really changed UI a lot in DT2, even some key combos are now different, so DT2 works now much better on it's own as independent station - initially i thought i keep also OH and will combime them but now i see i probably sell both Digitakt OG and Digitone and buy rather second DT2 :-)
I would strongy suggest to anybody who wants to use also DN/ST to consider stay with Digitakt OG.. You need to learn different muscle memory for DT2 and now i see - at least for me - it's not ideal to switch between those two different muscle memory sets ..
btw my first DT2 jam :-)

well i am not much into samples too, i use DT much more like bunch of monosyntns glued together :-) Third audio rate LFO makes DT2 much more powerful in this regard. I mostly use just single cycle waveforms so i really use "sampler” aspect of DT just for drums and some voices/fxs here and there :-)
Looks like a MPC2000 vs. MPC 2000 XL situation, where the successor killed most of the demand for the predecessor.
Niceee
Every minute I play with DT2, every minute I realized that is so different from OG and so powerful at the same time.
This months I had several gear. Some I thought I was going to love it and it turned out I didn't need it at all (Push 3 SA, for example.....I love Ableton Live but Push 3 SA seems in the middle of nowhere), some that I still don't understand how someone can buy it and not return it, because they are incredibly bad (OP1-F...amazing piece or garbage) and others that I don't like in the beginning, but after a few weeks....results amazing (M8)
DT2 is in another plane. This is not a game changer. DT2 is the game
I don't like sequence things (because like I said, I enjoy playing, not making songs) but the thing is, sequence with the DT2 seems playing. The quantity of sweets spots fiddling is amazing. I don't bother too much thinking that I'm sequence....because is not sequence at all.
:-) thanks
Absolutely subscribe to this .. it’s madness how powerful it is.
I…bought a used Prologue 16, had one at launch and wanted one again, it sounds sooo good. If Elektron had been just one week faster, things might’ve turned out differently. I’ll get it eventually:-).
But will it Ambient?
not pure ambient but in that direction
When the Prologue came out, I've played it next to the Prophets and an OB6 and I was totally into the Prologue's sound, it just delivered that warm, fat, analog style sound that I had expected from the others. A total surprise for me.
this ? loop page : "You also have the possibility to select which pages of your pattern you want the se
quencer to play and loop. The selected pages are then looped on playback.
In GRID RECORDING mode, press and hold [PAGE], and then press [TRIG 9–16] to
select which patterns pages you want to play and loop. Green [TRIG] keys shows the
selected pages. The [TRIG 9–16] keys corresponds to pattern page 1–8. For example,
you have an eight page pattern and you want to play and loop page 1, 2,5, and 7. To
accomplish this, press and hold page and then press [TRIG 9, 10, 13, 15]. Press and hold
[PAGE] and then press [NO] to resume normal playback of all pages in the pattern."
not as easy to access as drambo, but it does the trick
I use this all the time now! Muscle memory is making it be very quick and a godsend for editing. Plus if you want to use it as a performance feature, you can do that as well, I just like it for honing in on specific sections of the pattern so I can work on it. Stellar feature they should add to every one of these devices.
Can’t wait til new units go on sale, definitely looking forward to this one.
So far sold out at Thomann... Let's wait for the second hand market as well but I guess it will be not cheap
Amazon in US had them yesterday.

I’d buy one but I’m on vacation for 4 months over in Vietnam and Thailand… poor me!
No desire for second hand, happy to wait for new units from a retailer I trust (ie Sweeteater).
